Limiting Rotation Direction with the Brain Crane.
Archive: 5 posts
Hello, couldn't figure this out for myself so thought I come ask you guys! : ) I basically have a device that can freely spin in both directions, basically a wheel on a wall. So far so simple. I was just wondering if theres a way to get it to, on activation, not be able to spin in a particular direction. Like after spinning it to get a certain device into place, if the player then tried grabbing it with the Brain Crane, they could not, no matter how much their little sack brain tried, get it to spin anymore in the direction they just span it but are free to spin it back the other way. Any suggestions would be awesome, thanks! | 2012-07-14 10:38:00 Author: Hallm3 Posts: 252 |
i've got some ideas, but i need a bit more info, is it a single player level? is the player controlling a bot? and if the player is controlling a bot, are you allowing the player to use either a ds3 or a MOVE controller, or is it limited to just a MOVE controller? | 2012-07-14 12:30:00 Author: evret Posts: 612 |

just put this together, should work regardless of the above questions. place a bit of holo (or sticker panel) the same size, thickness and layer as your "wheel", just beside it is fine for now, set up micro chips on both as seen in the pic below. the grab switch is inverted and wired to a 100% dampening anti grav tweaker, this stops rotation when it's not grabbed. the advanced mover is set to 100% dampening and a speed of 100. this effectively stops movement but allows rotation, like bolting it to thin air. set the material tweaker to grabable on the holo, and not grabable on the wheel. the speed on both the speed sensor and rotator should be set to the same value, that value along with acc and dec can be set to whatever you want. http://ia.lbp.me/img/ft/5aa529d218bd8bd050cb1338ffb911cd18975b08.jpg place another bit of holo the same size as the wheel but stretch it across all 3 layers, then glue this on top of the first bit of holo, this just prevent the first bit changing layers. then just move the holo directly over the wheel as shown in this final pic (all you see in play mode is the wheel itself http://i3.lbp.me/img/ft/0f3babee74b3381da1a07b3009844c016d4f9061.jpg this set up forces the crane to grab the holo instead of the wheel itself, then the speed sensor sends that rotation info through to the wheel itself. however the toggle set up allows you turn off 1 or both directions at will, you can of course use something other than toggles, just keep in mind analog signals can interfere with this setup (easy to work around though) | 2012-07-14 14:10:00 Author: evret Posts: 612 |
