A Series of Unfortunate Events (aka, it's been a pretty weird week)

Archive: 12 posts

A couple of days ago, my friend informed me that someone I know from school got into a pretty horrific car crash. He was in critical condition last I heard, but I have no news about his condition deteriorating or improving. All I know is that he's in a coma right now, and he underwent brain and liver surgery. All I know about the event proper is that he was helping his mom deliver newspapers, then she lost control of the car somehow. He graduated just over two weeks ago and is a pretty cool guy.

The next day, I went to see Ted with my friend. On the way there, we noticed more than a few police cars and firetrucks on a street very close to where I live. We also smelt something... burning. As it turns out, a 'mentally ill' man has stockpiled explosives in his house and residents of the street were evacuated. The explosives were safely removed and detonated at a safe place, and the man was arrested in time. I have a couple of friends who live on this street, so it was... worrying to say the least. It's bizarre that something like that can happen under everyone's noses. At this time, no one knows what he planned to do with them. And regarding the burning smell? There is a pretty large brush fire not too far to where I live. Yay.

So, it's been a pretty surreal couple of days. Very little of this affects me, but it's worrying to think that people I know could have been hurt. It's also sad that my former classmate is in critical condition, right before he was to go to university. I just wrote this to get something off my chest, but I'm perfectly fine, if a bit sad and unhinged. I was just wondering if anything similar (as in, successive weird / unfortunate events) has happened to or around any of you. Maybe I'm just curious as to how things can be perfectly fine, then BAM! Explosives stockpile. If this thread is inappropriate for this forum, feel free to lock it.

Wow. That's horrible.

We've only had fires here... but nothing personally comparable to your week.

Again, it's not bad for me. It is, however, bad for people around me. The fires are slowly being subdued, which is good news though. I just think it's surreal how the time span for all of these events was so small.2012-07-14 02:30:00

A house just a few meters away from mine got robbed this year. That moment when you realize that your neighborhood is as susceptible to robbery as the rest of the city.2012-07-14 03:12:00

Well, last year on December first, my next door neighbour's house caught on fire. It caught right after they just DITCHED the house, and the house had no power in it that night. My dad said that he saw a van stop there a few times that night though. Everything turned out okay, the house was torn down after, but about... 5 months later the houses SHED caught on fire. You could see the smoke from blocks away. The shed fire was actually worse than the house fire, because it caught my backyard fence on fire. They managed to put it out in time, but just the thought of my house almost bursting into flames frighten's me.

Now I live in an apartment without a huge pit beside it.

That is a downer. Hopefully your friend makes a full recovery.

You're kind of like Hurley... 4 8 15 16 ... *computer breaks*

Wow, that sounds really bad. I hope your friend becomes okay, it's unfortunate he has to get operations for two organs. I'm quite surprised the police didn't detect the explosives thing, it must have been a pretty thorough ordeal.2012-07-14 22:20:00

That's truly terrible. I would barely even be able to withstand such a bombardment of unfortunate events.2012-07-16 21:52:00

I'm not the person suffering. I'm kinda just observing weird things going on in my city. Everything is under control for now, and that's good.

The only thing that affects me is my friend. I just hope his family and friends can pull through this horrible tragedy. It's a shame that this should happen so soon after he finished one phase of his life. It just goes to show you that in an instant, your entire life can be swept away for no reason.
