Group and Parent objects

Archive: 1 post

Not sure if any of you have any experience in 3D Softwares and / or animation, but In most of those softwares, you can Group two or more selected objects together. And parent one or more objects to another object, to copy changes from the parent object to the children objects.

Grouping would be handy for things like:

The Emitter:
Now we are able to make a emitter emit one or more selected objects and then, if we change something ( the shape, some logic etc. ) it automatically updates it to the emitter, BUT if you have selected two or more objects ( they aren't connected in any way ) You can't move one of them without having to re-select them both again...

lets say that you have a wall with three blocks that keeps changing layer with the in-out mover, and you want to emit that wall with the three blocks, as a obstacle, then you can easily select them all and emit them and change the logic on all four objects, BUT you can't move one or more of the three blocks that moves in and out, without having to re select them all again.. :/

Then we should be able to Group that wall and the three blocks together, so It updates ANY changes within that group.

Parenting would be handy for things like:

Tweaking:
If you have ten lights, spread all over you're level, and you want them tweaked the exact same way, or have the same logic then you could Parent nine of them with the remaining one, and then, ALL tweaking and logic would automatically copy to the nine ''children'' of that parent.
Or if you have a function in your level, where you can destroy a wall or a obstacle and have more than one, then you could parent all of them to the first, and if you decide to change the way it works, you only have to change the first one's logic, not all of them.

What ya think ?
