Paris is for Lovers 3D (WIP)

Archive: 24 posts

Hi there,

you might think what this thread is about and you might already know that there is a level of me already called "Paris is for Lovers" (http://lbp.me/v/4yrt70), so what is this all about?

over the next 4-8 weeks I will work in my freetime (holidays, yay) on a 3D scene inspired by the level I created and a few other influences. I will update this thread quite often to keep me motivated and have a nice work in progress overview in the end. Feel free to comment, criticise and throw in ideas.

My aim is not to rebuild the scene (http://i6.lbp.me/img/ft/266a9e532c85a96647baf2f4b51e8dc40c07f65d.jpg) the same way I made it in LittleBigPlanet because I have a couple more freedom in creating with an actual 3D programme, however it will be more time intensive.

I have choosen this kind of project because I am not that active anymore in creating levels in LittleBigPlanet anymore, because my education stops me from doing so, but LBP helped me to choose that education in a weird way^^. And I just love the theme. So in the end it is still lbp related

So without further ado, the recap of the first two days.

Day 1 and 2 - Trying to start

For the level itself I researched a little what the roofs of Paris actually look like and what the architecture looks like. Having done that I had to LBPify it to get the look I wanted. A more comic themed, whacky look. Chimneys are made of toilet rolls, the fassades are made of cardboard. I watched a couple movies like Ratatouille or Moulin Rouge to get ideas and then started making the level. - This is how it turned out to look like:

This level and all the research done (and still to be done) made me start 2 days ago blocking out my scene.

At the moment I am looking how the scene can be arranged and what works and what doesn't. The models don't really matter right now, cause there are very simple and just blocks and just there to make a nice composition. They will all be rebuild at a later stage.

That's it for the moment and I will be back in a couple of days I hope

Been a couple weeks now, the rainy weather decided to switch to summer-mode. That made me go outside and enjoy the sea etc. Managed to work from time to time though. Here is the progress:

will start texturing soon and add some props here and there.
Hope I will finish it during august.

This looks really great man, it was one of my favourite LBP2 levels so it's awesome seeing 3D scenes come out of it. Can't wait to see what it looks like when you start adding textures. 2012-08-02 14:16:00

Superb! I love the shots you took in your most recent update, and those buildings look fantastic. Good luck TOB, it was always a pleasure finding a new level on your planet in the days of yore, and I'll make sure to watch over this thread like a hawk. 2012-08-02 15:49:00

Those are really cool rough draft project. It makes me want to create an artwork based on my level series. Looking forward to see how the final draft works.2012-08-04 02:40:00

Right on. I really need to get back into Maya. Haven't touched it in a long long time. Got Maya 2013 and haven't even touched it yet. Something is seriously wrong with me. This scene looks fantastic. I imagine you'll be doing some sort of cool cinematic to go along with it when it's all done, right?2012-08-23 23:53:00

hey there,
first of all, thanks you for the kind words.

right now I do not have the time to keep working on this, because of university.
However this will be continued (and finished!) once I find time.

Hope you understand.
