Remove The Level Copying

Archive: 17 posts

I honestly think this has been one of LBP's major flaws since the birth of this game. Allowing players to copy the levels of other players has cause a pandemic in the LBP community. Example: Latin_Player_10. I still remember in LBP when there used to be people actually trying to make good levels, but now there's nothing but copying and copied giveaways of other players' content. Think about it, If level copying was removed from both games, people would have no choice but to make their own work instead of copying attempting to get hearts and likes.2012-07-06 02:38:00

Copying is good, re-publishing a copied level is bad. I've copied many helpful tutorial, font, and glitch item/material levels. Don't throw the baby out with the bath water!

We should get rid of hearts and pins...according to you that's what is motivating these folks.

Would anything happen if we removed the option to republish? Would the good things that come out of republishing (if there are any) be meaningless? Cause if there's seriously nothing good about republishing a copied level, then I'm fine with it being removed. If there is, there should be ways to work around it.2012-07-06 11:55:00

wanting the copy option removed to make the community levels less spamy is a pipe dream. removing the copy option won't fix the cool pages. it won't stop cool pages from being filled with junk levels that someone made in under a hour. and the copy option does have it's uses. like team projects. & yes it would be bad if they also made it so you can't repub levels you copied because then you could not pub levels you got from your team. i suppose they could make it so locked levels can be copied and repubed without problem because only friends could copy it at that point and that be ok. but a better answer is make it so people can only have 1 level on cool page at a time. also cool pages was always bad since LBP1, some people think it used to be better but it actually wasn't much. also like the other guy said. the copy option is also nice to get materials and other stuff you want to remain fully editable. *mew2012-07-06 13:36:00

WHAT? You don't like Latin_Player_10's AMAZING levels?

/trolling.

I copied some of comphy's tutorial levels, very helpful.

repubed

My young, immature mind laughed at this -_-

To me, it's not the copy problem anymore. It's Mortal Kombat, bomb survivals, and shark survivals that are ruining the cool pages. They should delete all of the levels that are shark survivals, bomb survivals, and Mortal Kombat levels. They can't be republished after the deletion.2012-07-06 15:45:00

Time out guys. While we may hate those garbage copied levels... they aren't terrible to everyone. SOMEONE is enjoying themselves in those crappy levels. We need to remember that most of the players in this game are still in elementary school and don't know any better. They want simple levels with popular pop-culture icons like angry birds and batman.

Copying and republishing should not ever be removed because kids DO love Latin_Players levels, even if he didn't make them.

HOWEVER! The cool pages should not allow levels that were copied to be on them. Not sure how to moderate that, but that's up to the developers to figure out.

You can't do that to the kids who made those levels. Like it or not, they have a right to publish what they want too. That's like walking into a subway and being denied your banana peppers because everyone in that subway hates banana peppers. That's not fair to you now is it? You want your banana peppers nao!!!

I agree. The players have a right to play and publish what they desire as long as it doesn't go against the rules, I don't think it'd be fair to simply take away those players' copied levels. Copied levels are basically what the players like Latin play for. If they were taken away, they would probably have nothing left. Then again, they TOOK from others in the first place.

Totally agree mate, when I was going for the Dive in trophy, I would end up with people most of the time whilst they were playing either bomb or shark survivals. I always thought "Huh, must've gone random match" but then they would finish the matech and GO BACK IN TO ANOTHER BOMB SURVIVAL!!! lol, So I guess you're right

I know the majority of all the people who like these copied levels are kids, but there's enough complaints that we need to pull all of the copied levels off of the cool pages. Yes, I do agree that kids have the right to publish levels they like, but these levels are causing a lot of complaints from the other players. Mortal Kombat isn't a bad idea to publish, but the Mortal Kombat levels that clutter the cool pages are simple. There's less work done on it, robots are poorly made, and the worst part about it is that no score giver is put in. That's why the Mortal Kombat levels are bad. Yeah, I say that kids can copy levels or publish what they copy, as well as they make their own levels like that, but they cannot hit the cool pages unless if their levels are really, really, good.

Again it comes down to what people consider good. There is an audience for this stuff, even if it isn't here.

Allowing to copy levels is good for reasons already stated. The ability to take apart a good level or object to see how it works is a great teaching tool. I like the idea of there being an option like you can set for prize bubble, where people can or cannot share them. In this case, you can decide whther a copyable level can or cannot be republished.

As for a blanket ban on all copying, I'd defer to those people who need that system intact because they build off of a group. Besides, how long would it take to make one of those cool pages levels from scratch. It would slow it down but those levels wouldn't stop.

Media Molecule already came out and said that they did a bad job with the cool pages. It's a robot. But there's nothing they can really do about it. They would need to take all the levels down and redo their servers which would be a disaster for a game that's already released.

So yeah, just don't go on the cool pages is all I can say. Filter our LBP1 levels which seems to help a lot. Mm Picks give us fun levels to play every single week. While the Mm Picks may not be as good as they were several months ago, they are still great levels regardless (and I'm not just saying that because I just today got my own pick )

Also, Media Molecule have been working to fix the problem, every week in the news section there seems to be fansite community spotlights to visit directly that give us even MORE great levels! I don't see how anyone can even fit all these great levels into their queue! I feel overwhelmed by awesomeness!

Nope, we official cannot listen to anything you have to say now. Ulterior motive much?

Good point though (not that I'm listening to you), the simplest solution is to just ignore the cool page entirely. There are plenty of reputable alternatives. Heck, there's a trove of great levels just a couple of mouseclicks away right here.

And why stop there? There are still knuckleheads who can abuse the rating system. We should get rid of that too.
In fact, let's just shut down LittleBigPlanet entirely!! Who's with me!?!?!?

No, but seriously. What they should do is put something in copied levels so people will know who the original author is. Whenever the copied level gets plays, yays, and hearts, the original level gets credit too. I'm sure there's some way they can do it.

The one question is: if you don't play the cool pages, then why do you complain about the cool pages? I don't care about the cool levels because I never cared for that. The best way to deal with the cool pages is to ignore them.

So here's my idea: All of us from LBP Central must stop browsing the cool pages or even mention them. Once we stop, the cool pages won't have anyone to protest against it. While we are happy that we don't have to go to the cool pages, the kids will be happy to play the cool pages.

Whenever I play levels it's because they were either added to my queue because someone here linked to them, or they were in the MM picks, or in my friend's favourites.
