Follower problem

Archive: 12 posts

Hello there. Im trying to make a elevator but it dosent seem to work. I made tags for each floor and also i have different followers for different floor. I attach the selector to the followers. So when im moving L3 up, the followers lights up, but since i have a selector i can switch btw them. The problem with that is, when i switch for example to follower 1 which should follow the tag on the first floor. It just wont work. Something is wrong. It worked once but now its not.

Any solution for this? If you want, we can meet up and you can help me.

Thank you for your attention.

Is the elevator in a tight space? You might just need to use a material tweaker to lose some friction.2012-07-05 20:44:00

Yes its in a tight place and yes i already did the material tweaker and tweaked the friction. But still it wont move.2012-07-05 20:46:00

Can you show us a picture? It would help a lot in better understanding the problem.2012-07-05 20:48:00

Use "L3"? Did you set the Controllinator to "Reciever" and "Controlled by closest person"?2012-07-05 21:07:00

No, the controllinator is to control the elevator once your in it. I need to call the elevator to a certain floor. I connected it to a advanced mover. this all is in a microchip. When im in the elevator it activates and i can move it with the controllinator. Otherwise its deactivated when im not in the elevator. And to call the elevator i use the followers.2012-07-05 21:17:00

Ok here are the pics. I hope you get this..

The first pic is showing the tag, which is on floor 1, the main floor is 0. The third picture is the followers. And the second picture, i activated the follower, but it still stands on the same spot.. It wont move at all.

Only issues I can think of is either:

1. the elevator is slightly out of allignment (with sides?) and is being blocked physically
2. you've left dampening 100% on the gravity tweaker
3. a conflict of interest in the followers

If it is the latter, try using a single follower and cycle the tags on/off instead.

Is the advanced mover set to 100% braking? It will stop the elevator from moving when it's turned off.2012-07-06 09:28:00

All of this. I can't think of much else, except to mention a couple of methods that I was taught a while back...

Any time I want something to move in a shaft-like setup, I shrink a material down to invisible (take it off grid, then shrink it down, rotating it a few degrees at the end then shrinking it until it won't go any further). Then I put it back on grid, and use that tiny little swath to cut away the edges of either the shaft or the object moving through it.
In elevators, you can use an invisible piston set to stiff and 0% strength in conjunction with the movers and followers. This helps to ensure that it will stay in a linear path.

You probably already know all of this, but if not I hope it helps, and if so maybe it will help someone else?
