Lag Free Merge Tool
Archive: 15 posts
Hello Sackfolk! So I was surfing around on other LBP sites such as this and I found a tutorial by Just Tom on the littlebigplanetarium site! After asking him if I could make the same tutorial here on LbpCentral, and receiving his permission, I bring you the Lag Free Merge Tool! I've tried it and it works amazingly. Now all I've have done is copy the steps of his tutorial here (I asked don't worry) so here we go! Apparently Just Tom found out about this wonderful tool when he met xSLEVENx and one of his friends on his moon and they were playing around with it. After asking how to use it, this is what the wonderful world of LBP2 will be recieving... http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=40718&d=1341412546 The picture above shows the tool. Very basic, place 1 microchip, and then another 2 chips inside that one. (I re-sized the chip to make it nice and neat, but this is not needed). http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=40719&d=1341412546 To use the this tool, hold R2 and select ( press X ) on the 2 circuit boards of the chips that are placed inside the 1st chip you placed. Release R2 and you now can move the chips, and the object/material it's placed on. http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=40720&d=1341412547 Here I placed the merge tool onto a doll head want to merge it with the bottle. Following the instructions above I then moved the doll head into the bottle http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=40721&d=1341412548 From what I know it works on everything, and creates NO LAG! So enjoy and get merging! CAUTION: Pressing triangle while merging will result in your PS3 freezing and possably corrupt the level you're woking on. | 2012-07-04 15:59:00 Author: septamus112 ![]() Posts: 82 |
You know, this is just about the most exciting tutorial EVAR. Thank you, I bow down to your awesomeness. Thank you Tom. And thank you septamus. Now excuse me, I'mma go write this down somewhere. ![]() | 2012-07-10 11:17:00 Author: Kaboosh99 ![]() Posts: 359 |
Simple and effective, thank you and the others involved for sharing your collective wisdom. | 2012-07-10 14:07:00 Author: Ironface ![]() Posts: 432 |
Wow, this is probably the best merge glitch ever! No lag, no convoluted setups with emitters or checkpoints. I'm gonna try this out real soon! | 2012-08-15 19:43:00 Author: Blue Helmet ![]() Posts: 306 |
This is a great tool if you only need to do one or two merges, however, it is a pain to transfer the chip between objects if you are undertaking a large merge job. There are tools, such as TINTED's advanced compression tool, that cause negligible amounts of lag and do not require transfer between objects to allow merging. Also, pressing triangle during a merge with an actual compression tool will not cause a game crash. I'll stick with extreme low lag compression tools. Just my opinion. | 2012-08-15 21:39:00 Author: Unknown User ![]() |
The lag caused by the traditional compound tool is negligable if you place it way out of view. The biggest downside of that compound tool, however, to me, is the fact that it only works on objects created after the merge tool was placed. This means that I'd need to duplicate any existing objects. I'll definitely try this new method out, though! | 2012-08-16 11:50:00 Author: Antikris ![]() Posts: 1340 |
I tried this some time ago and it didn't work. ![]() Could you add some more details? I think you left some of them out by accident. | 2012-08-17 10:16:00 Author: Kaboosh99 ![]() Posts: 359 |

I'll have to give that a try because while I like the no lag tool, the downside of it is that you can't zoom in because it has to be selected to use. So I end up selecting it, moving it objects, deselecting, zooming in too see if I need to move it some more..can be a little bit of a pain. I tried this some time ago and it didn't work. ![]() Could you add some more details? I think you left some of them out by accident. all the details and steps are right there. It does work. 1. place a microchip ON the object you wish to merge 2. place two microchips onto the 1st chip 3. hold R2 and hit "X" on each of the secondly placed chips 4. oila! the whole object, chips and all, are selected and can now be merged. NOTE: make sure grid is OFF | 2012-08-17 14:02:00 Author: biorogue ![]() Posts: 8424 |

dammn, i forgot to turn grid off think that?s my fault | 2012-08-22 10:40:00 Author: Unknown User ![]() |
TINTED's advanced compression took (the pink diamond) presents little or no lag even when right in the middle of the fray. At least the version I made anyway. I made my own variable strength compression took which is very powerful and versatile, but does present some lag when in the fray. My own tool, however, allows merging on the left or right side and can be placed at the far right of the build area. There is no pause required, no black hole created, and negligible lag when placed at the end of the level. It does maintain one of the natural drawbacks of all traditional compression tools. It has to be placed before the items to be merged are created. | 2012-08-23 18:59:00 Author: Unknown User ![]() |
I just can't believe how easy this is. Very useful. thanks | 2012-08-24 07:15:00 Author: GribbleGrunger ![]() Posts: 3910 |

In my experience with that tool, the lag is always present but it does work on newly placed objects. | 2012-09-01 23:41:00 Author: Pookachoo ![]() Posts: 838 |
Great! And can I point out, you don't need to hold down R2 ![]() | 2012-09-13 15:27:00 Author: ballisticola ![]() Posts: 157 |
