Pondering on Potions

Pondering on Potions

Hey, I published my new level a few hours ago. Before you read on, you should know that this level is really strictly for ONE PLAYER! It is my first LBP2 level and the play count is going up exceedingly slow =/ making me question the effort put in to my level.

The level is a platformer that I designed as trying to be like a story mode level. Apart from platforming, it has also got a storyline going too.

My PSN is FahadM

The level is titled "Pondering on Potions", here is the LBPme link: http://lbp.me/v/cffp5-

The level looked very clean and stuck to its theme all around. At the beginning, the cameras were kind of annoying, as it felt kind of jumpy as I walked. I didn't understand what potions had to do with the level until the first enemy came. The enemies were still well done, though. I liked how you gave prize bubbles throughout the level, along with the secret score bubbles. The bounce pad parts were pretty fun. You made them properly, unlike some creators who make them go too fast and give too far of jumps. The most interesting part was where the friend joined you. It was great cooperative work, and he also enhanced the story. Very nice work.

Also, could you go back and try to finish my level, Never Free?

Thanks, and yeah the camera's are something I have been continually working on. I also would have liked to introduce more obstacles but the thermometer will blow up lol. I will go back and play your level now and review it again, and try to also fix up my camera's - the reason it feels choppy is because the TRACKING settings is quite low because I wanted to focus on the scenery in specific areas. Also the sackbot is a girl lol and I'm glad you think she was the best bit =] you should see her circuitboard (wink wink - get it? lol! Nah, I mean mechanically though) (although I'm sure people on this forum have made 5* harder sackbots). She joins you prettttyy early on so I'm happy she enchanced the whole thing. Her name is Sophie, I guess I should put in actress names.
Also since I will be reviewing your level, can I ask you if you found the TUTORIAL on how to kill the potion throwing sackbot useful - I put it there because I was sure people would just rush in die and exit the level.

A nice romp through the level, but it did feel a little to spaced out, guiding the sackbot was a nice idea but it also seemed to not really be a main element, having the bot say they are scared was good, but it would be pretty interesting if you had to maybe drag the bot through a section or something. All in all it is a fun play though 2012-07-05 11:48:00

Thanks for the feedback of my LBPC8. This is a nice level. It has some good ideas, and the visuals felt like I was in back in Da Vinci's hideout (with slime materials). The girl holding a creatinator is a nice addition, too. I think you should add some sort of obstacles that kills the last few enemies, instead of just activating the switches and press the buttons to make them self-destruct. Good job on this platformer.
VISUALS: 4/5
SOUND: 4/5
GAMEPLAY: 4/5
OVERALL: A yay

It's one fun level with funny text. I like bubbles disposition and quantity, and scenery is good enough. Was confused where to go in a part after killing first enemy, but that's probably my fault. Supporting character is interesting and supplements the story nicely.
Generally, good job on the level.

Thanks for your nice feedback on my level Fadham.
I agree with JustinArts feedback on this level. Overall it's a very good level, definitely worth a play and with the promise of a sequel?
When LBP2 first launched davinchi themed levels were everywhere but recently with nature levels sprouting all over the servers it made a refreshing change to play a level with this theme.
I liked the rescue element and the co-operation with your companion sackbot as you travel through the level. I tried to do something similar in my Ico and the Colossus level

The dialogue was well written and importantly not too much as to interfere with the gameplay, just enough to give a little impetus to the action.
the difficulty was well judged too, as often enemies take too many hits to kill but here it was just right. I look forward to playing any further installments, just let me know when they're out.

A very simple and fun level. Nothing serious, just a bit of good old platforming fun.

I echo the beginning level camera problems, it felt very clunky at that point. I'm also not a fan of levels that attempt to replicate Mm story levels, but at the same time, there isn't anything wrong with that.

The enemies were nicely done and offered some intense platforming sections due to their attacks and most of the platforming was enjoyable to manoeuvre, despite there being nothing entirely new. I'm also not a supporter of infinite checkpoints as i think they erase challenge also, but i think i may be in the minority on that one.

The addition of a co-op A.I partner was interesting and offered much more depth to the level due to her mystique and conversation. She worked well in the level too.

The scenery designs were nice and had effort put into them. Again, nothing astonishing, just good for what it is.

Now, i can't think of any mishaps that could hinder this level, my criticism all lies on the idea and it's limited originality. It's kind of like a by-the-numbers LBP platformer level. To me, that's not what i look for, but to others it can be exactly what they're looking for, so to that i say....well done.

For your next installments, try thinking up something that might be surprising or new. It could expand your idea further maybe.
