Tone is back! In this acclaimed top down RPG, you take control of Tone as he adventures his home world - Tridon. In this chapter, Tone is in The Ancient Lands. A distant land that used to rule Tridon, but now, it is a place filled with relics of that era long gone by. Tone's Queen sends Tone to the lands in search of a rare treasure, but he finds himself muddled in an age old war. * 3 weapons to use * 5 spells to learn * Big open land to explore * Puzzles * End game boss * Profound storytelling *

Ah, back again from creative hibernation!

The follow up to my 1st Spotlight/nod level, The Adventures Of Tone: The Silverton Manor ~ https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=67812-The-Adventures-Of-Tone-The-Silverton-Manor-RPG-*SPOTLIGHT-NOD*

This time our hero finds himself in the Ancient Land. This is basically an Egyptian setting, but i avoid calling it Egypt to avoid relating my game world to the real world. Although, there are some real world metaphores in there.
This took about 3 months to do and i hope it's a worthy follow up to the original.

GAMEPLAY

The original was focussed more on combat and mild puzzling and was a slightly linear affair. Tone ll is set in a big open land and focuses on exploration, puzzles and story a lot more. The combat is still present, but i haven't gone out of my way to drastically update it over the original.

~ 3 Weapons to use
~ 5 spells to use
~ Big open land to explore
~ Outdoor/indoor exploration
~ Puzzle focus
~ User made music
~ Story with a message
~ End level boss that spans the entire land
~ Updated mechanics and added new features such as Sprint

DIFFICULTY

I'd say it is at a medium paced difficulty. Your main obstacle will be the level itself and not the enemy. You'll need to traverse the land with no map, only sign posts and directions given by NPCs. Then you have the task of solving the games puzzles. Enemies are fairly easy to dispatch, but when in large numbers, they can become problematic.
This is again designed around the old school principle. No way-point markers, no HP regeneration etc, etc.

I recommend newbies use the tutorial and hint box before going on your adventure. This is a detailed level and designed to feel like an actual RPG and not a LBP level, so it's best to try and play it that way. Don't rush and instead try to get stuck in....otherwise you may become overwhelmed or lost. It is not a pick up and play level.

Wow! what a post! I like it! Thank you. This shows that you've obviously put a lot of work into it and that you are proud of it and want to show it everyone. You want people to play it so you put a lot of work into your thread. Thank you. I'm getting tire of people just dropping links and leaving. As if someone is going to play your level just because you put a link in the thread. Anyway, sorry about that. This is very much queued.2012-07-01 20:06:00

Birogue said it! This post in itself means that I will go and PLAY/LIKE/HEART your level!!! Seriosuly, any creator can really appreciate the effort you've clearly put into making this level. The mechanics and everything would make it seem like it was an almost impossible level to make! I can just imagine the glitches that came up during your testing and how amazingly complex it would have been to solve them!!!
I will now go play your level and write my review live.
Also please remember, as you have put F2F, to please (if you of course dont mind!) play my level.

Review:
The opening menu is cosmetically ideal for an RPG. Perfect. The music? Again, Perfect. It feels inviting and serene.
Because I want to explore the entire thing I pressed Triangle and got teleported out of the level which I didn't think was going to happen! But because the opening menu itself was amazing, I of course came right back.
Not to go all nerd, but the map reminded me of WoW, with the two continents and then the icy continent at the top. Not that this is relevant to the review.
Of course, I am guessing that your designated audience for this level is very specific to RPG lovers. I haven't played any LBP rpg's before, I've been meaning to but never got a chance. Yours is the first, and it's going great! The whole RPG idea has been implemented fantastically! The weapons, the abilities, items, the attention to detail, such as books which contain contextual information to the RPG world you have created.
I died shortly after this being my first RPG level and me being an idiot and testing if the L1 - potion use works and consumed all my starting potions.
Overall, the level is excellent and perfect for the RPG-lover. I am suprised that it only has a few plays and not thousands. LIKED and HEARTED!
Anyways, please remember to F2F, my level is linked above! Thanks!

Well, you spend so long making something, you have to have passion for it. I like to let people know exactly what my intentions were when making it etc.

Thanks for adding it to your que too. I hope it's to your liking....and just because i spent so long on it, don't be afraid to say if you didn't enjoy it or parts of it. I'm all for learning about preferences!

Thanks for the kind words.

I find it encouraging the fact you enjoyed it despite not having played many RPGs in LBP yet. I've never played WoW so i don't know what their maps look like, but with WoW being an RPG, i guess it's a good comparison.

I believe my levels are best enjoyed as a whole experience, i don't believe you can fully enjoy them until you finish one as i tend to build up or bring it all together at the end. But if you're enjoying it having died early, i guess this is a good sign.

The tutorial or hint box's are highly recommended for newbies.

It's not perfect and may be aimed at a certain audience and that is probably what hinders my play counts, but it's out there and if anybody enjoys....i'm over the moon.

Consider your level qued too.

@Mr Fusion
Glad you're back to check out my follow up, sir!

@Pyrotrooper91
Thanks very much! I hope you enjoy what you can of it.

I'm taking a deserved break on Rainbow Moon at the moment, an absolutely fantastic RPG available exclusively on PSN, so i may take awhile to read this thread or play qued levels, but please, i love reading feedback, so don't hesitate if you wish to offer it.

Again, thanks for the interest.

Hi Lotus flower
NICE level mate.. great intro, nice tutorial, great use of logic, great music, nice looking enemies and very indepth game play

K, a few ideas, the combat is SOOO slow, i hoped when i got the sword it word speed up, but it just has a larger damage area. Its really hard to time the swings with out taking ANY damage, i died twice, the second time i scored 900 points (You really should make it go to a score boards when you die so you can register your score) i'd say make the sword swing TWICE as quick, and perhaps make a block, i tried and tried to attack and back off, but it's just too clumsy, an INSTANT block would add a bit more skill to the combat.
My other point is, how every well writen your text is, how ever in depth and well thought out the story line is (and it is) there is WAY to much text to read, and some of it isnt even skippable..theres the guy down the bottom near the building, that goes on and on, wit cut scenes, and if im honest i got so bored i started playing arond with my iphone while the cut scenes were playing and skipping the speech (SORRY .

The scenery is very plane, but i understand thermo is a masssive issue, but if the cut scenes have to be so so long, then it would need something interesting to be happening to keep peoples interest.
Not wanting to put a downer on you mate, i understand what an rpg is, but there is only so much people will read in my opinion.
GREAT logic, great mechanics, just a little 'cluncky', but none the less an EPIC level, very complex, well thought out, and very NONE lbp (which is a very good thing ((NOT a sponge wheel to grap, or a ledge to jump on in sight ))

I'm an English guy too, if you want some more ideas etc or just an english mate, then do please add me (shade_seeker)

Alll the best mate!

If you could f4f my level tank commander (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=72239-Tank-commander-A-top-down-shooter-(1-4-players)), and leave your thought in the thread on here, that would be great.

Haha. 1st, thanks for the feedback, i've returned it. What i'm trying to achieve with this is that same feel i had when playing the really old top down RPGs. These were usually slow in feel and play. Now, i do admit that the sword is slow, but it is described as being that way in the menu, however, i have sped it up because i don't want people dying all the time. Also, it is possible to not get hit at all in this game, again, i base my design on the old school aesthetic. Games back in the day were much harder and required strategy, and that's what i also aimed for. However, once you find the strategy, enemies are an absolute breeze and i made sure to give each enemy a specific weakness. So to make that a little more clear, i have added combat scrolls around the level that detail a strategy required to eliminate an enemy.
I'm not a fan of taking people who died to the scoreboard. It's mainly so i know who's completed it. I did consider a block, but decided against it in the end as i'll be creating spells that replace a block idea. In this level, for example, there's a projectile protection spell.

That's nothing to be sorry about, mate! We all have our preferences, but again, it's that old school idea. It's a story based level too. I agree more could happen, but i'm not a fan of over the top production. The amount of text to read is actually little compared to what old school RPGs gave us, so maybe this just isn't your preferred style of game, i mean, it's definitely not one for the iPhone generation haha. Also, it has been noted that i create for a very specific audience. However, i still would like to attract others and even though i can't implement a skip feature for this level, i'll attempt to do it on future installments. Skipping story text the 1st time around though, completely eliminates the object of my creations. Storylines to me are an important ingredient to the entire picture.

Yes, thermometer is the issue there, however, as it's a desert land, what more can there be? Again, i must come back to the specific audience and aim. That audience will watch the cutscenes and try and get as much of the details unearthed as possible, and that can mean searching for more conversations that may reveal some new things. When you pay attention to the story and allow an immersion, you will be interested enough to play it. So this is why i say at the start to the player to play the level as an actual RPG and not an LBP level.

Thanks for that great feedback mate. I've improved the game to a level i see fit and took your skip idea (however much i disagree haha) for future installments.

I'm an English guy too, if you want some more ideas etc or just an english mate, then do please add me (shade_seeker)

Just finished playig this. I didnt beat the level. i died after exploring one of the temples. i like that you tried to capture some classic rpg presentation elements. for example when you first show the town with the overhead shot and music theme. its reminiscent of the feeling of getting to a new town in an rpg. those nostalgic elements can be strong. i wouldve liked to hear a noticeable change to the musical theme even if subtle, right when a guy started telling me some of the details id need to know. also during that conversation between every text were control instructions popping up from the controlinator. maybe if you could access a reminder of the controls somewhere else.

i liked the combat. it was solid. sprint strafing and locking on, while being able to attack is very good. i dont remember it being made clear that tapping l3 put you into lock on mode opposed to holding it down; i kind of just noticed. maybe i missed that tho. also if you try to sprint while the stamina bar is replenishing it goes back down without the player actually sprinting. seems like you should either be able to sprint during that period, for as much bar is there or it shouldnt go back down until its recharged again.

after dying i was brought to the where you yay the level and leave. i wanted to try again. a retry option that placed you at the beginning would be better than starting the level over and going thru the intoduction again.

overall i think presentation and combat were the strong points. refining those elements is what would draw me in,

heres the link to my f4f thread. look forward to your feedback
