Is there a way to use DLC you already payed for on new PSN ID same PS3?

Archive: 6 posts

I'm staring a new PSN account and starting over with LBP profile for certain reasons, thus retiring my current main account. But I came across a problem.

To avoid having to recollect prizes I copied my LBP1 and 2 save data from main PS3 user to new user, which I've done for other accounts in past, but since this account is suppose to be my new main account I want to be able to collect LBP trophies again, which you can't do if you copied save data from another user. So only way to earn trophies is to start new profile and recollect prizes. But I can't copy DLC from one user to another, so how could I recollect my DLC prizes without having to rebuy packs?

No, there's no option to copy or transfer under game data utility or under transaction history/download list.2012-07-01 01:56:00

Hana Kami,

With some trickery you can copy over your old save data to the new account, but it will disable trophies.

The problem with DLC is that it's forever "tied" to the account that bought it as well as the PS3 you originally downloaded it on. As others have said, all accounts can freely share access to all DLC purchased on a single PS3. But if you deleted the account you used to purchase that DLC, and the DLC itself, the only way to get it back and share it with your new account is to log in with the old information and download it again.

You will NOT be able to do a transfer of ownership or download content from the Playstation store with the new account. You must log in with the old account, download all the content, and then it will be accessible while you play LBP2 with the new account.

You should be very careful about buying a new PS3, or purchasing DLC while temporarily logged in to your account on another person's PS3 -- this further ties your content to your account on that PS3, and sharing between accounts gets even more finicky.

Editorial gripe: The whole business of DLC is frustrating and before it had a chance to evolve into something that best suited both consumers and businesses, it got handicapped (for consumers) by the industry trend of treating everyone like a thief. Anymore, DLC is best considered "subscription content" tied to a single account. Lose the account, and lose everything you ever paid for with it. Think of it like moving house, with a caveat: you can bring your old books and clothes and furniture to the new house, but only if you also still have the old house around. It's not exactly like that, but to ensure you always have access to old content, you need to keep the DLC on the PS3 forever (and realize that it is only on "loan" to your new house, while actually belonging to the old house). Horrible, but that's the game industry for now.

Keep your old account around! Keep the DLC on the hard drive! Then you can use the stuff.

Oh, no wonder I couldn't figure it out. I was right. There is no way to copy transfer, but that's because you don't need to. When I started new LBP profile I checked and DLC automatically shows up as well as levels. 2012-07-01 03:53:00
