Possibly returning level creator... have things changed at all?

Archive: 13 posts

It's been a long time since I've played LBP2, and just for the heck of it I checked on my levels to see that someone left a "best level in LBP" comment (not to brag, it surprised me, too!) I already sort of had the itch to create again, but knowing that some people really like them is sort of drawing me back to the game. I just wanted to get a feel for the community again.

When I left before, my frustration came from the fact that the "cool levels" page was always full of copied junk, and a level series like mine, which is a Metroidvania-style adventure, really had no way to stand out from the masses other than maybe video recording, which I can't do. The people looking for a 3-minute platformer often would rate it low because it takes some thought and reading, and in some cases hours to complete. Considering the fact that I literally spent 1000+ hours on it, I was too disheartened to finish part 4 and continue the series.

Has this changed at all? Have they finally implemented a way to separate levels by genre, length, etc, and find the diamonds in the rough? I'd really like to start creating again but I was having such a hard time getting noticed before, and was hoping it has improved.

To be honest, things didn't change much.
However why don't you post your level here on the fan site? I'm sure people would love to play them and give awesome feedback. I bet it could even get spotlighted!
Visit the level showcase by clicking this link (http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?40-Level-Showcase) and post your level.
You can also use the F4F system which is when someone leave a constructive feedback on your level you have to do the same with one of his own level.

Also I see you've just joined us which is a great time to introduce yourself.
Please visit this Link (http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?6-Introduce-Yourselves) and make an introduction thread.

Thanks for the reply and advice. I was a member way back too, but couldn't remember all my login info, and this one fits my levels better =) I also made a sig and links, so hopefully that will help. Do people still play levels that are chock full of actual content, or is it all about the move, cutscenes, etc?

I suppose I'll run a level promotion thread and see how it goes. On a side note, does this site allow "spoiler" hideable tags?

And yes your allowed to use spoiler tags.

So there's still no genre search... that's a shame. I kind of wanted to search other open-ended levels like this to see what I'm up against 2012-06-29 21:06:00

getting spotlighted on this site will do you a lot of good if you want a lot of people to play your levels. honestly you'll forget cool pages exist after you start only playing spotlight hubs. MM picks and level of friends. i never have to look to cool page for levels to play anymore myself. *mew2012-06-29 21:48:00

LittleBigPlanet won't ever really change a great deal any more I feel. This is a great and a very bad thing. I mean of course there are still copied levels and I curse the guy that created that inverted rollercoaster level and left the **** thing copyable!!, however, there are still a good few creators that are creating amazing and content a plenty levels. As previously said by other members of the forum, your best bet is to try and get spotlighted because it boosts your popularity and notoriety a lot. Also, the cool pages are still messed up with a lot of rubbish and copying stuff; You'll understand the "Latin Player Problem" soon enough lol.

Best advice is to return and check out the spotlighted, MM picks and some of the better newer levels, because there are levels out there that restore faith in the LittleBigPlanet Community

Yeah, that was pretty much my problem. Even if you assume the community *isn't* full of these people, you still have the problem of no genre separation. Sometimes even more "mature" gamers have times when they want a 3-minute platformer, and times when they want a whole puzzle-filled minigame wrapped into one, but no way to look for a specific one. It seems that MM just lumps everything into one giant clusterfudge and only the lowest common denominator tends to stand out on these pages.

Yeah.. ''Cool levels'' is pretty much screwed.. But if You'd like to play Platformers, I have some Recommendations! (You probably / hopefully know most of them already)

RikiRiki-ita
Lockstitch
Poms
TOBSn08
mcdonald1967

if you have a hard time getting noticed, I'd recommend the Level showcase here on LBPC!
I've made platformers since the release of LBP2, and people who played them before they were ''known'' told me they were very high quality and that I was the Next RikiRiki-ita or Lockstitch ( which surprised me alot :O )
So, I posted them in the Level Showcase, and now my newest level is Mm Picked ( not official yet )
So, the Level Showcase defiantly work

i'll play your levels for sure!

Thanks for the recommendation...I'll check some of those out. I do remember one or two of those names from awhile back. I played a few MM Picks last night but wasn't all that impressed with the gameplay, at least on the few that I tried. The visuals and tech are always impressive, but I'm an old-school gamer so I'm more about the gameplay =)

I've decided to just go through with it and work on my creations once more. I will be posting them on this site once I change a few small things on the level that have been nagging me. Until then, if anyone happens to want a preview or to leave feedback, feel free to give em a play, but they will be revised this week.

Still having a heck of a time getting noticed... even tried bumping the level thread with no luck =( Is this the "official" MM site or is there another one to try advertising levels?2012-07-16 23:00:00
