Object ownership issue

Archive: 7 posts

Hello,

Hopefully I can explain this clearly. A friend and I have been working on sections of a level for quite some time now. Previously, we had all of the rather large chunks in one level. To give us some extra thermo, my buddy captured one of the chunks as an object and then emitted it into a new level. I then copied that level to work on some logic, but I cannot edit anything that is already in the level. If I try to delete a piece from the level the whole level gets deleted. I'm assuming this is because the whole thing belongs to him. Is there a way around this?

It'll be because the item you're trying to edit/delete is emitted. This happens with any emitted item or object, regardless of who made it or who stuck it in an emitter.
I'm afraid there's no workaround - you'll either need to get yourself a copy of the original, or re-make it from scratch.

That's not good... So if he still has the section in his Objects and simply pastes it into a new level, I should be able to edit it? IIRC, the reason we did it via emitter was because the game wouldn't let him place the object. Probably because it is very complex.2012-06-29 16:30:00

yes there is...

for emitted objects, you simply need to set the emitter lifetime to unlimited, then select the emitted object, press l3 (left stick down) and paste the object. Then switch the emiiter back to normal lifespan. Edit the copied one, then re-add it into the emitter.

I just checked this out. I think you must be mistaken - Once an item is placed in an emitter, the emitted version cannot be Corner Edited, or un-glued from itself. It becomes a solid object like the LBP1 contraptions are. You can resize them, flip them, copy them or even change their materials, but you can't edit them like you could something you just pulled out of your own collected objects area.
No amount of playing around with lifespans allowed me to do this.

This is what I found as well. Sucks, because the game won't let me place the object in an empty level.

Rather than capturing half the level, can't you just make the level temporarily copyable and each delete whichever half you're not working on?2012-06-30 22:53:00
