Portal Level!!!

So, I'm trying to take full advantage of the new tools the MGS4 pack gave us (like everyone is). So I've started a level loosely based on the popular game, Portal. So I need some fans of the game here to give me some feedback on how my Portal level works. Seeing the limitations of LBP, I immediately decided on having to shoot portals on what I call "Portal Pads" which you shoot with the paintball gun, making dissolve disappear so you can continue, which seems like the most realistic way to make a Portal level. The portals are basically doors which disappear when you hit them. So far, that's really all they are, which really isn't original and I may change it. I've been thinking about you having to shoot a portal, then enter the path it just opened. You won't be able to see what's happening, but what could happen is that there are platforms with proximity switches on them. They push you throughout the tunnel and get you out the other portal. I might actually just scrap the whole idea entirely, I like playing levels based on videogames, but I'm not really a fan of making levels based on them. hey, for once i do not have a concept on how to make this level work the way or atleast similiar to the game, my brain hurts now maybe someone else can come up with something because i am stumped, and i am a really good guy to talk to about concepts *sigh* well... The closest thing I can see to portals without actually using checkpoints and suiciding... would be like hidden doors that take you behind the level and to the specified warp point. i have an idea. dont know how good it is though. have an entrance. make it go behind a wall.behind the wall you can have a little passage or tube made out of glass that goes to where you want to exit. make a platform of some sort probably rounded so it will slide through the glss tunnel better. put a rocket on it? i dont know i never even heard of portal but if i was trying to make one id think thats how i would try to do it. hope i helped. | 2009-01-08 20:35:00 Author: Kitkasumass Posts: 494 |

I would maybe play portal and get a feel of a level that would work in LBP, instead of trying to do what portal does. Like do the ending, and create enemies that look like the ones from the game, and than have the last boss of portal as your boss. That would be cool, put things within the game, saying "the cake is a LIE" and stuff from the game. I just came up with this using the checkpoint. Have a checkpoint built to move along y and x axis. Then on a second layer you would create a massie grid for the whole level with key switches on each grid space. Then make a portal type object that emits orange blobs or something with the keys on them and then make the checkpoint move to where ever was shot. and how you would do that I don't know but I think it could be done. 223 | 2009-01-08 23:00:00 Author: Defaultsound Posts: 137 |
It'd require a lot of paint switches and wiring to detect which section the paint was hit and then to move the check point to that section X_X I already was thinking about an idea like this.. but I think it's a bit complicated to do on LBP... unless you're good at programming and know how to make ANDs and IFs... lots of them.
