Has this ever happened to you?

My ps3 decided to stop working on saturday and since then I have bought a new ps3. There's just one problem though. It won't let me download anything from the store that I already downloaded because my account is already active on two different ps3's one of which keeps turning itself off and the other is my brothers who live at my mums house. Now the one that broke is being looked at but there is a good chance it won't be fixed because it's a red light problem and I can't deactivate my account on it unless it's fixed. And I need to deactivate it so I can get back all the stuff I have bought. So my question(s) is what do I do? And why couldn't the ps3 have a simpler save system and proper memory cards? And why haven't I got all my online storage data back? And will I have to start lbp2 from scratch again despite backing up my profile? And how excactly does online storage work?2012-06-27 21:12:00

Having a built in HDD simply makes it easier to manage savegames and allows for updates and DLC to be installed and used, as well as the OS. USB sticks can still be used as memory cards.

And why haven't I got all my online storage data back?
If you mean the cloud storage, I have no idea.

And will I have to start lbp2 from scratch again despite backing up my profile?
If you successfully backed up your profile and manage to get it into your new PS3's HDD, you can import it from the pod menu and everything will be like it was when you last backed up (except DLC, which you must redownload.)

And how excactly does online storage work?
No idea. :/

And how excactly does online storage work?

It's a misnomer, All that's really happening is you're paying someone else to save it to a computer at the nearest data centre.

For online game saves you need an active subscription to Playstation Plus if your sub is inactive for 6 months your saves will be wiped.2012-06-27 22:07:00

There is no way of telling which system s which and you can't deactivate or activate it online.

They are numbered in the same order they were activated.

You can deactivate at the site I linked above, this method was introduced last November when the activation limit was reduced.

You need to click on the PS3 you want to deactivate to access the deactivate option.

And when I do it says "You can only deactivate your Playstation3 system from Playstation Network using your PS3 system. You cannot deactivate it using a PSP system or PC.

Since my PS3 keeps turning itself off and is in a repair shop somewhere I cannot deactivate my account on it and if my new one breaks and my account isn't wiped from my broken PS3 I am screwed as I can't download anything from the PS store.

Note: Once you have performed this deactivation you will be unable to repeat it for 6 months.

Your brother will need to sign in on your other console to re-activate it once this is done.

Thanks I have done that but the problem is I have to start all over again on lbp2. Now I have managed to back up my profile onto my usb stick but before that I tried using the back up option in the system settings menu but all that did was wipe everything off my usb stick and console so I have to re-re download everything again. Als0 I still can't understand why a usb stick wasn't included with the console and why it doesn't say anything about backing up your profile in the lbp2 manual. How is anyone supposed to know what to do when they get a new console?

And if the xbox 360 can have memory cards and detachable hard drives why can't the ps3? It's just so frustrating.

Money. PS3 was being sold at a massive loss for a long time after launch throwing in extras like that would have either increased the loss per unit or increased the selling price.

Using any generic USB stick for portable saves is roughly the same as using memory cards but without the extra costs of a proprietary piece of hardware. Also I think for the newer versions of the 360 they stopped doing memory cards and started accepting USB strage.

The PS3 does have detachable hard drives you just remove the little hatch that covers the HDD remove the screw and slide it out and you can use any 2.5'' HDD as a replacement although unfortunatly the HDD will be formatted if taken from one PS3 and placed in another.
