Cartoon levels

Archive: 3 posts

I've always wanted to make my own cartoon style level, and I have seen some around recently. Sadly I have no idea how to make cartoon levels. How do you make your own cartoon objects? Or do just draw extremely carefully with paint? Thanks!2012-06-26 03:44:00

Hi.
The main way the cartoon effect is done is with sticker panel.
Its the old frame animation technique.
1. The backhrounds are all drawn on Sections of Sticker panel, moved, or glued togeather (cos you can stick around 40 stickers onto one panel) in the very back layer.
2. next layer forward rom backgroud is where clouds and that are done.
3 Front layer is where all the moving characters are. Its actually an old way of animating using frames showing the character at different parts
of a move (eg. Walking).
- Here's a way it can be done -
Draw the frames- decide how many frames you will use in your animation (say 5, for a sword swipe). Now, using a flat, 5x5 sticker panel piece, place a refrence mark (with a sticker) ruight in the centre. This will be so you will know where the centre of each frame will be. Now, copy this
frame another 4 times (with grid on) and place each beside the other. Now, using stickers (like curve, line or fat curve) or painted images draw
your cartoon picture of the character. Each frame will be different (showing him swing the sword frame by frame).
Now, place a chip on one of the frames and on the chip Place a timer conntected to a 5 port selector. Connect each ports output on selector to
each frame starting at the first port to first frame in the sequence. now set each frames off opacity to 0 and move each frame over the first,
glueing each one over the last.
Now look at it in preview- As the timer advances the selector it plays the next frame in the sequence giving the illusion of movement.

They have a different series of frames for left/right etc wired into the direction on the controllinator...be happy to show you how it works..just add me :-)

Now that is confusing. I don't have a playstation move and I'm very tempted to buy one, and now I have the perfect excuse! Anyways, thanks for all the help, sadly I won't be able to do that until I get a PSmove.
