Cool Idea I Thought Of

Archive: 16 posts

Okay, so I thought that it would be cool if they gave us a mirror material. And if you have your PlayStation Eye plugged in, and you walk by the material, you would see the reflection of you (or obviously whatever is in the view of the camera). Or if you don't have a PlayStation Eye, it would just reflect the background of whatever one you are using at the moment.

What do you think?

incorporating the ps eye like that seems somewhat pointless...
it'd be better if the mirror reflected like a real mirror, so depending on the angle your sackboy is with the mirror you'd see something different.

if that's how it would work it'd be a tonne more useful ^^

Are you kidding?! A mirror material would be awesome for making levels... I can imagine people creating mirror rooms, and even puzzles that have you use mirrors. T

Bottom line : The PSEye thing sounds dumb, but a material like this would be awesome.

well it isn't something Id ask for over bug fixes.. but I'm sure it'd still have it's uses. like seeing farther than the screen.

maybe if a laser and laser switch was added with it O:! the laser would reflect off the mirror and stop at anything else! O: makes for great puzzles!

I meant the PSEye thing would be useless. That would be completely useless in an actual level, and would be super hard to program probably.

The mirror thing that reflects in game would be cool, though.

The puzzle thing would not work. What can you really see? It's not like you can change the camera to view yourself in the side of a 'mirror block' or something. The three dimensions of this game are extremely limited. All the player would be able to see is the "reflection of the background". If there was a mirror material, there wouldn't be any way to use it for puzzles. It would just be for asthetic purposes.2009-01-06 23:55:00

You'd have to reflect it into the laser switch, then the switch would activate, and do whatever you have it hooked up to!

If they ever do get mirror material, I demand lasers and laser switches!

You can see objects that are of the opposite angle at which you view the mirror... if the mirror is at 45 degrees and you are walking along the floor to it, you would see the ceiling..

how would puzzles not work?

and you can rotate the camera enough to see the sides of objects

Allow me to repeat.

Lasers don't do anything!

Sweet halibut, dude. You cannot rotate anything in the z axis! Do you even own this game? You can't do that!

How would you know what lasers do? I'm saying they would make a special switch for the lasers that would detect if one was hitting it and then activate.

AND

I never said anything about the z axis.. can't you rotate an object 360 degrees?

Like aup! There's my square! -> [_]
Aup! Now I've rotated it! 45 degrees! woo! -> <>

The Z axis means rotating it towards or away from the screen which is immposible in LBP... at least I think ;P
