Hovercar Survival 3

Archive: 8 posts

Hi community. I would love some feedback on my latest level Hovercar Survival 3. The biggest difference in this one are the power ups. Yes, that's right, now your hovercar can fire massive missiles, be completely indestructible, or destroy all enemy hovercars in the arena. Use these power ups to your advantage in order to gain the highest score. Die too many times and it's game over, so make sure you don't take too many big risks. Good luck Sackthing!

Does anyone know what the lbp.me thing isn't up? Here's a link for now. http://lbp.me/v/ce48v3/info

Played it. I like the control scheme, but things were going way too fast for me to have real fun . I felt like I had no control. Something about the level just felt off. And the bumber carts and what not looked a bit unappealing to me.

I realize it's a survival, but I wanna survive longer because I got skills, not because I got lucky, ya know?
But it has potential, so keep going at it! I think you'll get there.

That's the second time I've been told to slow it down a bit, the first was on Hovercar Survival 2, so I think I will. Somehow I've manage to develop a some strategies, for myself, but that's probably the fact the I know exactly how the level works, and your best chances of surviving. Also according the info page on LBP.me, it says that despite the 3 time playthrough, you didn't complete the level once. Why is that?2012-06-25 09:02:00

Awesome, I see you're still working on this. Be on the lookout for my review in the coming time.

EDIT:

Ok, so powerups are the major addition, and they are also the focus of this review.

I like the powerups. I think they add to the level nicely. I especially like how you made the screen light up when you use them. That said, I do have some suggestions about them.

First off, and the only one I consider major, is that the powerups seem to be solid. True the player doesn't experience problems, but I saw that it blocks missles and enemy cars from traveling along its path. Hologram/sticker panel would function much better. Just use impact sensors with tag on player car needed.

Second, the transition into the powerup. This is more of a personal aesthetic choice,. but is it necessary for the entire screen to show the powerup. It played off as awkward to me, as it breaks away from whats going on. Although I can imagine just having the title appear over the player might allow it to get lost among all the action. I honestly don't know which would be better.

As for everything else, well. The car seems to work smoothly enough, and I don't get caught in corners behind pileups anymore. There's definitely improvement that legitimately makes this the best one yet.

As for the pace, yes there is still a lot of just random mashing going on, but that doesn't have so much to do with the speed as the fact that the play area is just an open square. Consider adding obstacles or something to the next version, creating a sort of open maze. Adding that extra layer of depth might require messing with the enemy AI, but it would be well worth it on the overall gameplay quality and replayability.

I hope this helps with this and any future versions you may make. I'm looking foward to them.
