BT Home Hub 3 to PS3 connection

Archive: 9 posts

Hello Guys and Gals,

I am having some major trouble with my brand spankingly new Bt Home Hub 3. It is a broadband connection not infinity beaue it is not in my area code yet. So on to the problem:

I have an 80GB phat PS3, and the problem is that when connecting the PS3 wirelessly to the BtHomeHub 3I get numerous DLNA protocol errors and disconnecting from the media server on a constant basis.

Also, when i finnally get it to connect, the download of anything is painfully slow. For instance, i tried to update to version 1.16 of MW3, which is a simple 29MB update. The estimated time? Ranging between 20 - 60 minutes.

Has anybody got a fix or any information regarding this as I cannot work with this download time and considering Littlebigplanets usual update sizes it looks like I will have to give up on Lbp!

Kind Regards to anyone that can help as I am at a complete loss here.

I know you said you didn't get BT Infinity, but my dad recently installed it for us and it was working fine with download speeds of up to 32mb/s which is really fast. Two weeks later, it was stumbling around 8mb/s so he moved the box into a different location and it's working a little better. You could try that, but I bet it'd be a real fuss. You could also try altering some if your network settings, run some tests and see where it's going wrong. Or perhaps ensure that no other device is using the internet (Eg. Mobile phone) whilst you do your download. Sorry of it's no help but I thought, seeing as though I'm on BT too, it could be of some use (:

I have a BT home hub (not infinity), it can be a little flakey.

How's your wireless in general, like on your PC?

BT
Eew.

How's a wired connection? Have you forwarded the ports your PS3 uses? Have you assigned it a unique address? DLNA errors imply there is a conflict between the console and other devices connected to your router or the router itself.

Have a look on the PS3s connection settings too and see if there's anything that might be applicable.

Thank you all for the help. I have decided to run 15m of cable along the skirting boards of my house and make it wired. The simple reason for this was because I got fed up of trying to play with things.

I have worked in IT for 2 years so I was familiar with a lot of the fixes but after port forwarding, DMZ testing and Channel surfing I gave up lol.

Sony and BT were useless with both deciding the best idea was to set it to WEP security which made no sense. However, it turns out that the PS3 Phat (2006-2009 versions) which I have does not agree with the new security that newer Hub's use. This is because of the old Wireless interface cards in the PS3. Changing the encryption to WEP instead of WPA or WPA1 does double your speed but considering the download was 100KB it made no difference.

To conclude, the PS3 does not like the WPA security if you have either a weak or moderate WIFI strength.

Thanks for all the help and I hope my conclusion can help other people in the future if they do struggle.

Kind Regards,

Liam

EDIT. Oh and to those that asked, I have 11MB's on a Wireless connection on my Laptop.

Ah, I have the old version of PS3 too but I didn't know it affected connectivity. Thanks for letting me know (Let the parent hassling begin.)

Ha-ha yeah. I mean some people have managed to get it working but it always seems to be a struggle when it comes to this new security. And, tbh, if like me you didn't like the sound of data transferring then I would seriously suggest considering a Linksy's or a CISCO router instead. Both work with your Bt Line and are much better for Wireless connectivity

BT are a load of crap. My area was supposted to be getting Infinity earlier this year. Then it was moved back to June, now it seems to have been moved back to September!2012-07-03 09:11:00

Yeah I can agree with you there. Tbh the customer service that BT provides makes me not care about Infinity because I know I will have problems with it and BT wont friggin help lol. Oh well.
