Multiple Button Triggering

Archive: 15 posts

Recently I've noticed that a lot of levels have more than one button placed down. They somehow make a set up that you have to press all of these buttons to trigger a piston/door.

I'm pretty sure this is a set-up similar to the permanent switch one, but could someone else please explain?

Depends if you want them all pressed at the same time (as in they all have to be pressed at the same time, for the door to open)

or

If you just want it to open once all have been pressed

Basically you need to use some sort of AND switch

I only want them at any time, though at the same time would be useful to know aswell

Yeah, AND switches can be found in quite a few levels. I think ConfusedCartman made a switches level, it should have an AND switch inside.

His topic is here, it's called the Multiple-input switch: https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=t=3006

EDIT: Actually, I'm not sure if I'm right at all there. Sounds like any of the switches will activate the door/piston/whatever. I'll leave the link up there if you want it though, just in case.

You can probably just search for 'logic' in LBP and find a level or two about AND, OR, XOR and other switches.

Put a rectangle of dark matter high above the gameplay area and, say if you wanted 3 switches to be pressed to activate a winch or piston, then you'll have to put 3 pieces of dissolve material into the dark matter box. Put any kind of material above the dissolve in the dark matter box; attach a magnetic key switch onto that and to the bottom of the dark matter box. Hook the 1st switch up to the 1st piece of dissolve, and the 2nd and 3rd to the other pieces. Now that the switches are attatched to the dissolve, when they are activated it will cause the other material to fall down to the bottom of the dark matter box, activate the switch and (if the switch there is attatched to the piston/winch) it will activate it.

Sorry that it's a bit confusing.

I will try to make a video walkthrough of how to make this soon.

To make a permanent AND switch, simply find any AND switch and instead of hooking the trigger to the AND switch, make it trigger a perm switch and have that trigger the AND. If you want a three input+ AND switch you'll probably have to make it yourself. But don't worry, they're pretty easy to make. You'll be able to easily figure it out from looking at a 2 input AND switch.2009-01-06 21:59:00

LOL S-A-S--G-U-N-R just described exactly the way I have explained in my pics I just made for you lol

I started to try and quickly make a couple of pics for ya but my mate phoned me about taking me to buy my new car on the weekend and he wouldn't go away lol

Anyway here are a couple of pics for ya anyway. It's always easier to understand something with a visual representation anyway

ONE PRESS MULTIPLE BUTTON SWITCH

This one would be used if you needed all of the buttons to only be pressed once and in any order for the door to open

SIMULTANEOUS MULTIPLE BUTTON SWITCH

This one would be used if you needed multiple buttons to be pressed all simultaneously for the door to open

I think there's nothing more to explain now..
But seeing as it might be useful for you to get to know a few more switches, I'd like to recommend my Switch collection Level (see signature). There are 12 switches in there, including the ones explained here and I tried my best demonstrating and explaining them. I'm confident it will help, after I got quite good feedback.
Hmm.. sounds like I'm trying to get free plays, but I really think it will help!

the piston one looks a little hard, seeing how you would have to map it out really carefully, i say taking the wheel approach would be a good bet, just create a wheel put pistons on the outsides and invert the switch so once all of them are retracted it activatse but pistons are risky so i suggest using motor bolts or umm... what the name... wobble? well it is either that one or the other one but i would think that the other one besides mottor would work the best seing as you can set a rang that it travles in.

Cheers!

You can take the "one press multiple button switch" and apply it to killing all the monsters in a room. Have a mag key on each monster, and a switch which covers all the area the monster could possibly be in (be aware of limiters and if the monster is draggable or not). Have the mag switch inverted and have a different key/switch colour for each monster. Attach the mag switches to the dissolve in the diagram... and there you have a door that will only open when all the monsters are dead.

It's what I use in the liver section of my digestion level. I might show how to do it in a "How to" series, but it might be a while before that happens.

The one with the pistons in a straight line is the easiest if you ask me. When you're placing each separate block inside the dark matter or w.e(the pieces inbetween the pistons) just place them evenly spaced and so the last one is touching the end of the dark matter, then place the pistols.

All you have to do then is change the minimum length of the piston to 0 and attach them to directional switches.

Yeah I find it really easy and quick
