Ship Shapes Shooter - I made a PC game!

Archive: 5 posts

Hi guys, wanted to show you a project I've been working on over the last year. Ship Shapes Shooter is a free PC game I built using Game Maker's simplified language, the GML. I learned GML and created the game all by myself. I made the sounds using DrPetter's SFXR (free easy to use software), the music using LBP2 , the pictures in pixel art using GM's editor, the font with fonstruct and that's pretty much it. It's nothing original, just a basic space shooter, but I'm very proud of it and thought it would be a great place to show it, since it started as the idea "let's rebuild my LBP level into a PC game". Which ended up totally different, so SSS on LBP2 and SSS on PC aren't the same at all.

It's small, no worries. Tell me what you think. It's supposed to be challenging. I've been told that I should make the ship faster. Should I?

Very nice! I didn't expect a lot, because usually Game Maker games are not that good. But this one surprised me!

The menu looks extremely nice, I like the code system, the little easter-egg (I'm not gonna spoil that for the readers), and all the powerups. Music and art being self-made is of course a plus, and it's pretty fun to play too. Simple but effective gameplay: survive the onslaught of ships for as long as you can.

You get :star::star::star::star::star: and a <3.

Game Maker Standard for PC, 8.1 I think. It's only 40$, quite low for a powerful software. I think GM is underestimated. I'm making another one now and it's way faster since I learnt a lot in the making. Although I need to find the time to fix the score system of this one which is broken.2012-06-29 05:39:00
