Temple Complex: A Difficult Puzzle Game (Two Player Required!)

Archive: 7 posts

Temple Complex: http://lbp.me/v/bmjwwf

My latest level is a two part adventure through an old abandoned temple, full of complicated, intricate puzzles and challenges.

These puzzles aren't possible to complete with just one person, so grab a friend and see how far you can go. Be sure to collect all of the bonus golden apples along the way!

I'd really like to get some more plays on my level, and of course lots of good feedback. I'm pretty proud of the work I've done, but I'm sure there's plenty of room for improvement!

Thanks for the nice words!!

For the first puzzle you will need to stop all 3 rotating walls so the symbol matches (It's the Aztec face symbol, which is the only symbol that is on all three walls). You, plus another player, plus the grabbable rock that falls down with you should be able to press down all three buttons. Hope that helps and that you'll give it another go!

I haven't finished the level as I was playing it alone with two controllers and there comes a point when that just doesn't work - it's a genuinely two player level! I loved what I've seen so far. The temple setting looks great and puzzles are well thought out and require thought and cooperation. There's good variety in the puzzles too. I do think there's a problem with that first puzzle, though. I genuinely had no idea that the rock on the left could be moved and so although I could see that the Aztec head was the common factor I couldn't get the puzzle to work until I came in here and read the solution. Perhaps you could make it more obvious that the rock is moveable. Maybe even have a glow appear around it if players haven't solved the puzzle after a certain amount of time.

It's a real shame too because if players are stumped at the very first puzzle, they don't get to see any of the rest of the level which is a shame as you've obviously spent a lot of time on it.

EDIT: I tried again and this time with another player. We got a lot further but still didn't finish. This was largely because we ran out of time (and stamina). This is a long level given that the puzzles take time and some of them require multiple tries to get through (like the rotating bouncepad and coloured lights puzzle). There comes a point when it seems too much to continue. Have you thought about splitting the level into 2 so that each half is more do-able? I certainly think you have enough material for two levels. We finally threw in the towel at the lights out puzzle which I assume must be close to the end.

I just want to make clear, though, that I still love the level. The puzzles are great and well executed; the setting is stunning with some lovely lighting too but it's an absolute marathon at the moment. You probably don't realise how much time it takes as you can whiz through the puzzles yourself.

One small point of detail. In the puzzle near the start with the giant mirrors and light beams, the small mirror on the top right is hard to adjust as it is in total darkness most of the time. Was that intentional? Because it does make it slightly frustrating to get it angled correctly.

I really appreciate you taking the time to offer your feedback! I agree with a lot of what you say, actually. When I had a lot of my friends play it before I uploaded it, it would take up to 2 hours for them to complete it. But I kinda chalked that up to them just not being familiar with LBP at all, and some of the more platformy rooms (like the room where the bounce pads slide in and out of the wall) would end up taking longer than some of the more traditional puzzles.

I like the idea of splitting it into two. Perhaps using the key to unlock the 2nd half which you could then go play later. I had also started to consider maybe just condensing everything down into a Radio-Edit type of level. Strip out some of the less impressive boring rooms and cut the whole thing in half.

Seems like I've got some tweaks to make! At least you've given me a direction now.

Thanks
