Level link issue [Updated]

Archive: 7 posts

Hello,

I recently published a level and some people are stating that the level link is not working. I have it set up so that when the player selects a mission a sequencer plays out a little cutscene and at the end of the sequencer is a tag that triggers the level link to the next part of the level. The problem is that some people say that nothing happens at the end of the cutscene.

The tag on the sequencer extends to the end of it so it should stay on after the cutscene is done. The radius on the tag sensor is quite large so that is not the issue. All tag colors and lables match. Like I said before, it works for some, but not all people.

Any ideas as to how to correct this? Would replacing the level link do anything?

UPDATE: Well I believe I resolved the issue. I ended up having to kill the player, which opened up a whole new can of worms... But in the end, I think it's working now. I did test it with a different profile which originally experienced the same issue others were and it now works (thanks for recommending that pookachoo!). If some one would be willing to run through the level to make sure the level link works for them as well, I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks again for the help!

My question now is why did I have to go through all of this just to get a level link to work??

Try having a battery instead of the tag. Then either have the battery run into your current tag (now off the sequencer) or directly into the level link.2012-06-18 19:27:00

If you link to another creator's level, the link can lock itself. I assume you're linking to your own sub-level though.
I suggest replacing the level link, it might help. You might try having the tag at the end of your sequencer trigger a selector to turn on the level link. I've had other logic problems where a switch seems to just not be reliable, and selectors have worked for me.
Also, I always use another profile to test my levels. It can be easier to find glitches that way, problems like the locked links won't always happen for the creator of the level.

Sometimes level links will be locked for no reason, try having the level end sequence first hooked to a key to the sub level, and then after a few seconds trigger the level link patch. Also you could try killing the player during this sequence as sometimes just re-spawning will unlock it.2012-06-18 20:30:00

Well it looks like I have some things I can try when I get home. I really appreciate all the advice. The strange thing is that it works for some people, but not others... I cannot stand inconsistencies!2012-06-18 20:46:00

Yeah, that's the wort thing about it. It only randomly happens, and you can't test it on your moon.

The way I think of it is it happens sometimes when the level loads, like you spawn too early of before all the level is ready and you get the padlock. When you die, or pop you spawn. And when you are off the screen it has the chance of fixing itself.

In multiplayer everyone needs to die at the same time for it to unlock.

Giving or triggering the key should help, but you could also kill everyone, try to load and a
have a timer loop this. Eg: KILL, WAIT, LOAD, WAIT, KILL

Thanks for all the tips. These will come in handy since I’m using a level-link for the first time and I’ve had a few random issues as described here.2012-06-20 19:57:00
