A new way of classifying Mm Picks

Archive: 12 posts

So here's what we know: The cool pages are horrible, and Mm Picks are starting to lose their magic. The Mm Picks used to be a selection of levels that Mm really likes and shows how detailed your level was, as well as it's fun enough, but now they are accepting levels that are Mm Pick worthy, but what most people don't find Mm Pick worthy. We can let them have the new policy of Mm Picks, but it would be nice if they can classify Mm Picks based on type or something. Here's two plans:

Plan A - There are two types of Mm Picks: Mm Picks, and Mm Picks Elite. The Mm Picks Elite will include only the LBP2 picks that are more hearted and higher rated. The ribbons will have a blue ring outside. The other Mm Picks will still be the ordinary Mm Picks.

Plan B - Instead of making some more special than the others, they can break the Mm Picks category into platformers, games, movies, and others. I know we have tags, but some people have misused tags before (I played one level with the tag "paint", and there's no paintings).

They may not be good solutions, but I'm trying to contribute.

These aren't bad ideas at all, but there's one thing I think you should consider. Mm Picks are called "Mm Picks" because they're what Mm Picked. It's basically a favorites list by Mm. The "Cool" Pages is supposed to be there for levels that most of the community thinks is cool (doesn't really serve its purpose though). Mm Picks aren't "Mm Pick worthy" sometimes because they aren't based on what the community wants sometimes, they're what Mm likes.2012-06-16 22:04:00

I think LBPC should be able to give out something like MM picks. Just like spotlights but you get a ribbon, but not ALL the spotlights would get the ribbon just the best out of them.2012-06-17 03:36:00

MM Picks would become irrelevent.

I miss the LBP1 days when only THE best of the best got the honor of being Mm picked. I know this sounds weird, but it feels like they're adding new levels to the page too frequently. Also, many of the levels picked in the Mm picks aren't actually by veteran molecules (Spaff and Tom) but in stead the newly hired people from the community. The result of that is the feeling that someone from the community picked your level rather someone from Media Molecule. I don't mean to offend any of the new molecules because I believe they're helping the community in many different ways, but that's just how I feel.2012-06-18 00:35:00

Calling anything "elite" causes flame wars.. Just because a level is highly rated or has a lot of hearts doesn't mean anything about quality or fun. Most of the times it is the simple fact that it is Mm picked (or on cool pages) that gives it a high rating & heart count. Traffic basically. Now this "types" thing is what I'm interested in. Levels themselves need some sort of "genre" filter. Lbp2 is capable of so many different types of levels, so it is ridiculous & disorganized to lump them all into the same "levels" catagory. This would also better help people find more specific types of levels they want to play. If there was some sort of genre setting & a search tool to browse them.2012-06-21 04:01:00

I like numbers and I did my researches.
I give you these numbers
more than 6200000 levels, 270 picks 0.004%
an average of 47000 levels published weekly. 5 picks 0.01%
was trying to do a stat to see how may levels people plays weekly (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=71502-Stats-How-many-levels-do-you-play-in-a-week), just to confront how many levels are played weekly to decide a pick...
the other week more than 20% of someone's played levels became picks...

I think MMPicks are F'UP in any way you look at it.
There are too many levels to be played to be even remotely fair.

Oh, suggestions don't work, it's 3 months I suggest this level http://lbp.me/v/-gpkr1, I invite anyone to play it and see if it's MMPick quality.
I still consider it an utopian feature that harms more than helps, I said it from the day picks were anounced, just as I said that "boos" were wrong, you can check early LBP2 discussion, they're there.
But people threw insults at me and considered me as a crazy guy wanting to spream poison in the Community.
I just think and don't accept things without questioning, while many just prefer to kiss lower backs, so expect here flocks of people coming to defend MM picks soonish.

Oh, so NOW people decide to be discontented with the Mm picks! This would have been useful a few months ago on one of my threads.

I thought of making a thread with ideas similar to this. Mm could have normal Mm picks, Bronze picks (which are picks that aren't the greatest quality, but are innovative and fun, and Golden Picks, which are slap-your-mamma amazing (I did not make up that phrase), super high quality, Sealed-Fate-ain't-got-nothing-on-this excellent. But I didn't make that thread because I thought people were still sore from when I nearly set LBPCentral on fire with Mm picks starting to go downhill.

It would be unfair like MMpicks.
The pool in which the levels are picked, even the spotlighted ones, the hidden gems, the Libitsmate levels, LBNpicks, LittleBigPicks is so narrow...1000 levels every week on around 35000-47000 published, that you still can't be fair, because all the teams together play maybe the 3-4% of published levels

@VenemoX: This is what I mean Plan A.

@Dortr: You are 100% correct about what Plan A can do.

@Kalawishis: Gold picks are what I call "Mm Picks Elite". And yeah, ever since you created that OWS topic on Mm Picks, people still hung onto the subject.

@OmegaSlayer: I don't care how good or bad Mm Picks are doing, but I like your opinion.

One thing that never goes downhill is the Little Big Planet Central Community Spotlight. Maybe they should start having a section of levels storing only the Spotlighted levels from LBP Central. I would also like it if you can get a secret pin for being spotlighted on LBP Central.

No, they're not the same. Mm picks elite are Mm picks with lots of hearts that are highly rated by the community. Golden Picks are high quality picks, and the quality is determined by a select few.

I think Mm picks should be removed, and replaced by a "Level Picks" option. When you select that, you get a sub menu saying "Spaff Picks", "StevenI Picks", and "Forum Picks", which would lead to the picked levels. I wouldn't integrate Spaff and StevenI picks into Mm picks because Mm picks is a bit of a misnomer and would at a glance imply that the entire company looked over a level and not just one person.

No.. No one should be for plan A.. MM picks already cause problems with their "worthiness".. So the "golden/better/quality" version to them would only cause more people judging the level and creators, and complaining about not being worthy of the "golden/better/quality" picks.. or even the "regular-not-as-good" picks too..

I'm for plan B but for all levels.
I know a "genres" filter would be pretty hard to make without it being exploited.. but at the same time, the new "lists" feature we have made me think otherwise. That's kinda what I have used it for.. just to have a bit of organization... kinda wish it was in the actual game too but still very cool.

Any talk of new filters or pins, I can't resist.
I think it would be cool to have filters for crowned levels.. Any level that has won royalty could show up in this filter. Hell I'd say 1st, 2nd & 3rd for each contest just to make it a little more constant and have more levels. Most could admit that contest winning levels, are just as good or better than Mm picks. So why can't they get the same filter benefits as one?
I think it would actually be cool to see a crown on top of a level badge

This could even go for the few "Awesomesauce" contest winning levels that were awarded that pin, and even some great tutorial/tool giveaway "see what I did there" awarded levels... if both were awarded a bit more often.. StevenI has said that certain levels are Mm picked for their uses of the community.. which is great but sometimes causes angst within the community.. I think levels of this tool giveaway/tutorial nature would be more well received in something like a "See what I did there" filter instead.

I think pins are cool because they could be used to organize the vast talents of lbp2 creators and those who have contributed in the hosting of contests, spotlights and other lever pick-promotion thingajigs. I guess they are currently.. but it's not very organised or well presented..
