how do you make curvy conveyors?

Archive: 6 posts

Ive seen levels that have conveyors that people can grab, that go upside down and in curves etc. How do you accomplish this? I know how to make "moveable" walkways by emitting pieces of the sidewalk one after another, but I don't get how to make the pieces go upside down without falling.

Thanks!

If you are talking about round conveyors, I suppose that attaching all the (curvy) pieces to a rotating center sphere via stiff piston does the trick. If you mean upside down conveyors, grav tweaker + movers. I didn't quite catch what you wanted... :/2012-06-14 21:07:00

Obviously I know how to attach to a spinning circle. Play the level "Cinderella: no pedicure" and you'll see what I mean. It doesn't just go in a circle, it curves like a roller coaster.

Can imagine how that would work unless it involves material bending or looking like it's gonna fall apart.2012-06-14 22:08:00

I know how to make it. Follow these steps precisely:

1.) Create a rounded wall with thin-layer walls in front of either side to cover small cavities.
2.) Create a sponge rectangle with rounded edges (to prevent glitches). Make this sponge be a tad bit less wide than the cavity. Place a microchip on it.
3.) On the microchip, make a mover set to move in the direction and speed you want. Set it to "Local Space: Yes" and acceleration: 100%.
4.) Also on the microchip, place an anti-gravity tweaker set to 100% anti-gravity, 10% dampening, and 0% zero-buoyancy.
5.) Have an emitter set to emit the sponge behind the first thin wall at 0.0 frequency and lifetime set to the time which makes the last platform be completely behind the second thin wall, but not blocking up the whole system.

Possible Bugs:

1.) There are very small gaps between the platforms! Tweak the speed of the platforms to remove the gaps.
2.) The sponge gets off track and doesn't fit inside the second cavity! Either make the sponge platforms thinner or follow all these steps:
....a.) Attach a thin layer piece of glass the same size as the sponge to the back of the sponge.
....b.) On the glass, place a material tweaker set to 0% friction.
....c.) Make a guideline track in that thin layer out of glass, with a material tweaker set to 0% friction.

Pretty well explained up there, but just pointing out that the essential part of that is the mover set to local space 'Yes.' This is what continues to push it upwards into the track as it turns the corner.2012-06-16 08:27:00
