What's Behind Your User name?

Archive: 76 posts

I just thought it would be fun to find out why people decided on the user name they have and the story behind it:

My username was a mistake. before I was GribbleGrunger, my PSN ID was the rather grand, ArynGroth. but one day I decided to take my PS3 to a friend house because I never had online and I wanted to download some LBP2 goodies. My friend isn't the sort to go online so I randomly thought up a name and convinced him it was GREAT... that was GribbleGrunger! When I finally got online at home I realised that I had made the mistake of signing in on my own account instead of making a fresh one so I was stuck with the name

I didn't know you could change it at the time, but i'm used to it now and kind of like it. serves me right!!!

PSN:
It was just the first thing that popped into my mind. I'd also been thinking for a while what I'd be called before I got my PS3. So then I just misspelled guitar and spelled it phonetically and got Geet-R. Pretty awesome. I kinda wish I'd been something even cooler, like "Superawesomepooman" or "Datpimpinpotato" or something totally boss. Regrets.

And on here:
I'd recently seen "Dispicable Me" (great movie, go see it if you haven't) and I remembered how in one scene, the minions were pronouncing "papoi", and one of them was constantly correcting the other until he got it. It rhymed with "boy", so I just stuck the two together, "Sackpapoi".

Of course, my little brother had to copy me and simply name himself "Sackpapot", but he never goes on. He only did for a day. So if you EVER see anyone named "Sackpapot", it's NOT me, k? :hero:

My wife (Stella) and I (Kris) bought a PS3 with the intention to play together; she insisted we'd use a PSN ID that was a contraction of both our names. She booted up LBP1, played for 10 minutes during which I was untactful to lauch at her stumbling. She hasn't touched the PS3 since.

Because I feel pretty guilty about this, I have kept this PSN ID.

:kz: When I was a very young lad, I used(or should I say, still) play tons of FPS Games. I got my name from the fact that the Soldiers always wore a Helmets(IronSkull) which I always had an Interest in, I was a kid then(Kid), & my Lucky Number is (99)(Mostly the Max Number of Lives/Items you can Accumulate from Games.)2012-06-15 02:20:00

"Arbiekko" is the latest in "B" naming conventions since 1999 or so. R (my personal name initial) and B (just because?) = RB = Arbie. Sounds harmless and approachable like some cheerful 1950s kid selling lemonade on a suburb corner, or a certain roast beef fast food chain. Ha ha. Living in Japan I added the "kko" without really considering that it is both 1) misleadingly feminine and 2) heck on pronunciation, depending on your approach to phonics.2012-06-15 07:46:00

My initials. The numbers are there because I was the first one of my kind to come to life, but subsequently others started to spawn, and my mission is to stop them before they take over the world you can't have a 3-letter username in most places.2012-06-15 19:57:00

My username?
Many people say its like that because I rammed my head on the keyboard while I was looking for something cool to use as a username.
But I actually just typed some random letters and then changed it a bit afterwards. Its a good name actually, I can use it everywhere, because nobody will take it.

"Ninja Gnome" is a play on the enemies from Ratchet and Clank: Up Your Arsenal known as Lawn Ninjas. Ratchet and Clank is one of my all-time favorite series, and it has a nice ring to it I think. Twenty-three is my favorite number. And as for the underscore, well I thought it looked neat at the time.

My user name has been with me since i was eight but back then it was just Warblade. At high school i played counterstrike once with my classmates which i had never played before or since and i wiped them all out using mostly my knife.
I used to duck down so they couldn't see me and sneak up on them then charge and knife them to death. They then nicknamed me Lordwarblade.
I always prefer a shiny blade to a ranged weapon no matter what the game.

I use it as my username for almost everything except Xbox where a guy named LordWarBlade holds the title which funnily enough he won in a competition playing counterstrike. He was awarded the name by one of the contest hosts apparently.
So yeah if the first letter of each word in LordWarBlade is capitalized then its not me.

So on Xbox i am just LordMechavile which i made up for FPS and future games.

Mine (Alturak) was definitely a more unique way to get a name. Basically, it was Christmas and I needed something so I could go online and download the demo for LittleBigPlanet. I refused to put any letters in it, so it had to be unique. So, I decided to use the title of a book I was writing at the time. I really don't like the name at all anymore, but it is impossible to change, so I'm stuck with it. I'd rather have FadingDream(97), as it's basically an om-age to Yuna's last speech in Final Fantasy X. 97 is also my favorite number.2012-06-16 07:33:00

No I wasn't trying to spell Hellfire. I was just thinking of an original name for playing SWBF2 online, so I sat there for like an hour and I thought of Half Fire. My thought was that it would only take half the firepower to kill you. I took out the 2nd "F" because it would look stupid, but without the other "F" it says Hal-fire or Half- ire which doesn't make sense. I have no idea why I still kept it I think it sounds kind of retarded now but I've already used it for everything and made a logo so there's no point of trying to change it.2012-06-17 03:57:00

My username is quite a simple one if you think about it.

You see, my favourite colour is blue, and I wanted a more "fun" way to have the name blue in my username without simple putting blue in there. So I thought of the word Cobalt, it's a shade of blue, and it sounds cool. I then added the "or" on the end to make it sound like a name. The 252 is partially my favourite number, 25. The extra 2 at the end is so that no matter what, fowards or backwards, it will always be 252, and to prevent any confusion with the numbering in my username with those players that seem to look at your username once and think they have it memorized. The underscore is simply to seperate the two, and I'm an organized kind of person, so I probably wouldn't be able to live without that underscore.

For here, I took away that _252 from my username because over time, my friends started calling me simply "Cobaltor", and it actually, to me anyways, sounds better than my original.

My name came from the movie Tallageda Nights (which I have never seen). That movie came out while I was in high school and upon release all my friends nicknamed me Ricky Bobby. That's all I could of think of for a PSN when I got my ps3. I absolutely HATE my psn name though so I ended up creating a second account that has become my main account. That account is named Mister_Owl and I got it from that classic retro tootsie pop commercial I only use RiCKy-BoBBy91 strictly for LBP now lol2012-06-20 16:32:00

Well back in the year of 2001 (further than recorded history), I was a young lad wanting to sign up to the Lego Club website. I asked my parents if they had any ideas - obviously they weren't professional name-makers, so I sat there and thought. Well my first name is Jack, my surnames initial is W and my favourite number was 13. From that day forward, it was my name online. *Slams a dusty tome shut* And that is my life story. Oh boy.. my account is so awkward now.. but maybe this is a good place to sum up my account..

I made this account shortly after my newlywed wife Dorothy passed away in December, 2010.. I was quite angry, unstable & completely focused on upcoming lbp2 at the time.. I felt that the creation of an avatar.. and creativeness of lbp would allow me to basically use her to represent me in lbp.. I never intended to make friends, join people or join fan sites like LBPC.. I just wanted to create games and music.. and I didn't realize how hard you had to work and contribute to the community to have your work in lbp seen.. Well with all the social interaction that is necessary to get anywhere with a new account, and meeting people that became my friends made me feel like a liar and a bad friend.. All the while completely destroying my reputation with ranting frustrations about lbp and everything else.. So, it just got to be too much.. and I felt trapped in an alias.. and it made things more frustrating.. I spontaneously told everyone and to this day I'm not even sure who knows or not.. and some of those that do think I'm completely insane..if they didn't before that.. kinda sucks.. but that is why I depict us both together now.

Also.. Dortr kinda sounds like daughter with some sort of English accent and I like to think she is the daughter I created in lbp.. If you could transfer all lbp stuff to a separate account properly or change your psn.. I would call myself Fathr for this reason.

You actually can copy your entire profile to another account using a usb. My Lordmechavile lbp profile is an exact copy of Lordwarblade. All my levels photos and pins and even the crown are all there to be used. The only thing that wont copy over is the published levels on your earth. But if you have them on your moon then you can republish.

The only drawback is that you can't earn any future pins as they are disabled.

This thread is very interesting. I always assumed that usernames with numbers at the end were always just because the name was taken and the person to lazy to create a unique name.
But it seems that almost all the names here with numbers at the end are for a specific reason like birthdays or favourite numbers. I find that quite interesting.

Anywho, the reasons for my name a fairly obvious. Ali_Star, because my name is Ali and I'm a star.... and also because it sounds like Alistair. alistair26 is my PSN name because my name is Alistair (duh) and my number is 26 (this stems from when I created myself as a player in Fifa 96).

Um well, K-nine_9, let's see. That day I made this username, I saw a show about cop dogs called "K9". I also usually get my usernames from my favorite animal. (As my first PSN was "Meerzkat", yeah it's kinda dumb but I did like meerkats.) I also looked around the house and saw my dog sitting there, I though "Hmm...the scientific name for dog, is canine or K9." I then switched up the name K9 and came up with "K-nine_9." Which for short my friends call me Knine or K9. So......yeah, not fancy or anything.2012-06-25 21:23:00

I wasn't even here when my dad was setting up the ps3 (Which me and my brother used to share), so rather than waiting until I got home, he made the username Solid_snake (I was playing MGS4 at the time, despite being 12 years old) and our house number, 38. Being a na?ve little fella, I thought the name was cool and kept it, rather than making my own personal account. Hence, a really embarrassing username that makes me look like an eternal metal gear fanboy (:2012-06-30 22:33:00

I think i've explained my name a million times already but heck, i love explaining it.

>ER. I was in love with the "play" button a while back and usually doodled "play" buttons followed by the letters "E" and "R" basically writing "Player" everywhere. The closest i could get to a play sign on forums was >. So these days people know me as DER, ER or Greater Than ER.

Coshiuz Cosheeta. Back in the days me and a friend planned to make the most awesome game ever. There was some creatures in this game that would be called Cosheetas, and call themselves the holy Coshiuz race. The game never was but the names are still with me, thus, some people know me as Cosheeta, or Coshiuz. This is the name i might keep forever.

Julle_25-. What a horrible name, my brother helped me set up a PSN account. And because he had other stuff to do i just used my real name to save some time. Of course it was taken, so i added my birth date in the end.

I have many names mainly because i don't like any of them. I might keep Cosheeta, might not.
IRL, i have about 3 diffrent names aswell, my friends are so confused

I have a book I've been dabbling with writing on and off for years, called, Cymbol.

It is a dark fairy tale, and yes, the name is a take on the word symbol. (It all makes sense in the novel).

A few PSN names were taken, so I sat thinking, what would be a good name to represent me...I need some kind of symbol...Oh, duh!

No one else was named, Cymbol. Why would they be, I made it up!

However, when I first got my PS3, I wasn't paying attention and never realized you could switch upper and lowercase, so I typed it in using all caps.

Not a huge deal, but I feel it looks a bit pretentious sometimes.

Now, I use Cymbol for pretty much everything I sign up for. Cymbol is the symbol for me.

DominationMags. Well, I dont know bro. Would I change it if I could? Probably not. In fact, I like "DominationMags". I have no problem with it. How'd I get the name? Well.

It all started when I was in Elementary School. EVERYONE had an Xbox 360 and pretty much talked about it 24/7. Me, what did I have? An Xbox? lolno. I had a Wii. Yknow, that one that was really popular? I had no problem with my Wii Console. However, everyone had the Xbox. And because it was "the cool thing" I wanted one. But when I went to gamestop, I decided to get another console; one that was never talked about at my school, the underdog of consoles. The PS3. You're probably wondering, Why doesnt his school have PS3'S? They were just as popular? WHO CARES ABOUT BACKSTORY? ON WITH THE NAME! Lolno. You're gonna have to wait. So yea, I dont know why no one had a PS3. They just didnt. So I bought the PS3, and I got two games with it: LittleBigPlanet (The start of my LBP "career") And Infamous. At first, I didnt have a PSN. I just played LittleBigPlanet with my siblings. But then I saw LBPC; an online community. I wanted to join. So I made my PSN; But I didnt have a name. Everyone at my school on their Xbox account had "magz" after their name, it was some sorta clan name for Call Of Duty (The game everyone played.) I dont really know. So I, even though being on another console, put "Mags", not with a "Z". But, I needed a name before the "Mags." So I put Domination, because back then everyone played COD and my favorite game mode was Domination. So there. Thats how I got DominationMags. I dont really go by DominationMags. Most people (Including me) Just shorten my name to Mags(TM), Especially on Minecraft.

Back in 2007, I needed to make an author name for some long-gone comic book making game. I panicked and just typed the first name that came to mind. I found the name so catchy that I've used it for all my accounts.2012-07-13 22:17:00

Yassinius...

It actually came from my brother, Nordinius. But I was actually the one who came up with his name. I actually thought of ''Nordin'' and ''genius'' together and what do you get:NORDINIUS!! My other brother had the name Karimius so I thought it would be cool if we all do the same thing with our user names

This is a fun thread so let's get it bumped to the top
cradle2grave - A lot of people think I got this name from the movie with DMX and Jet Li called 'Cradle 2 the Grave', but my username is not after that movie(it was a good action movie though). My ID represents my love for videos games, starting as a little kid and continuing into adulthood. I shall continue to enjoy video games for the rest of my life because I view them as a release from the daily stresses that life can put on you. Now I know video games can be stressful at times too, but so is any other hobby
Cheers

Back in about 2009, when I first got a PS3 and thus LBP1, I was really into dinosaurs. I invented an evolutionary ancestor of Velociraptor - Protoraptor.
I decided to use that for my PSN, and there you go.

My PSN was named after, a cartoon character that i loved when i was younger. Spaceraoul was the name of a space traveling squirrel thing that was a kinda problem solver to help people, but generally manages to muck things up with his general humor.

Here's a little pic:

Lol.

Anyway i added the 28 since its just simply a great number.

My name that I used to use everywhere was too short (5 characters) and my backup was too long (19 characters) when I tried to set up an Xbox Live account. I had recently read a somewhat obscure comic book (http://www.steveuy.com/#!Feather|c1a9y) that I liked so I chose the main character's name. When I signed up for psn, I ran into the same restrictions against my other two names so I used Sehven again. It wasn't until later that I found out there are a few real live people named Sehven.... and it's a girl's name :blush:2013-03-06 09:47:00

For my PSN ID: I came up with that username when I was 10. I wanted to start a video series on Youtube about beating up Buddy from Interactive Buddy; I gave up after 2 videos. And for some unknown reason, I kept using it...until my friend mentioned the word "Buttarms".2013-03-06 22:11:00

Tom-550_ came from Tom Cruise(He is a crazy actor...in a good way) and 550 from my apartment building number.0o0! Please don't stalk me!

Scribble is my most favored nickname that was given to me by my older sister due to my love of art and drawing. As for Siren, it represents my status as a female gamer in competitive games...my interest in greek mythology and a allusion to one of my favorite summons in Final Fantasy 8. The numbers(whether added or subtracted)represent my favorite final fantasy games while the first 3 digits make up one of the many area codes of the state I live in.2013-06-20 03:29:00

My previous usernames here have just been boring initials and reversals of initials with numbers and repeated initials for dramatic shouty effect so I won't bore anyone with those. CogMonkey is just a name that comes from the avatar I usually use here and on LBP. I don't know why I started using it, I just made it in LBP years ago and always put it at the start of my levels somewhere. It's turned up in a couple of other levels as well, I'm pretty sure Grant used it in one of his Siberia levels which is pretty cool because I love those levels.2013-06-25 16:13:00

LBPC: I use chick8ed for almost anything. I was eating some chicken while reading some comments on a garry's mod addon. I wanted to comment, but I needed to sign-up. So, I came up with the name: Chick8ed. I used to use Romod (after roblox and mod... they were dark times. I'd rather not talk about them D: ) but then I fell in love with chick8ed. I'm also starting to use Sherlock Homies after the show Portlandia. In the first episode there was a hide n' seek team called Sherlock Homies.
PSN: My dad made it up, The end.

Well long ago, after I hacked into my brother's PSN account and played LBP1's Cool Levels for the first time, I was inspired.

So I begged my dad to let me get a PSN of my own. He said 'What do you want your name to be?' And I stared into his eyes, cracked my knuckles, and thought for about two and a half seconds- then sputtured out; "Radio." He then told me that was unavailable, so I announced a random series of numbers to come after it, which started with 447. He just took that.

I regret it every time I play online shooters.

Many years ago the name Kato just came to me while drawing an OC. I was like... 12-13. It later became my nickname. Now everybody uses it so much, I actually have paperwork filled out to get my name legally changed. No, really. I do. Even my parents call me Kato.2013-07-03 15:49:00

A long time ago in a galaxy far far away..........

Okay its not an epic tale of voyage and discover its a very simple story.

So after MONTHS of waiting my family finally got a Router that we were able to get connected with My PS3, along with my brothers, So at this time, 2008-ish, my favorite game was Call of Duty 4. So my Dad signed me up and with the help of my brother came up with the name shooter0898 which i agreed with.

So lets break it down:
shooter= Originally i was just going to play COD4 but well LBP1 gained my attention
0898= Month and date of my birth.

I used the same name for xbox because my imagination is unlimited . Since i started using it on xbox I just started loathing it since its quite awkward when i play a strategy, sport, racing game online and when i play these games it makes me look like a COD fan-boy. Well i think thats what it was supposed to represent originally.
