Your PHYSICAL music collection.

Archive: 38 posts

Physical, as in you actually own a copy of it.
My CD collection is pretty pathetic, (One or two.) but I've been collecting vinyls recently and it's been growing steadily. Here's a list:

Oxygene - Jean Michel Jarre (1977)
Equinoxe - Jean Michel Jarre (1978)
Magnetic Fields - Jean Michel Jarre (1981)
Zoolook - Jean Michel Jarre (1984)
The Essential - Jean Michel Jarre (1985)
Rendez-Vous - Jean Michel Jarre (1986)
Revolutions - Jean Michel Jarre (1988)
Les Concerts en Chine - Jean Michel Jarre (1982)
Talking Book - Stevie Wonder (1972) [original press]
The Nonesuch Guide to Electronic Music - Paul Beaver & Bernard L. Krause (1966)
Yellow Magic Orchestra - Yellow Magic Orchestra (1979)
Technodelic - Yellow Magic Orchestra (1981)
Naughty Boys - Yellow Magic Orchestra (1983)
Naughty Boys Instrumental - Yellow Magic Orchestra (1983)
Let's Dance - David Bowie (1983)
Abbey Road - The Beatles (1969)
Hey Jude - The Beatles (1968)
Autobahn - Kraftwerk (1971)
The Man-Machine - Kraftwerk (1978)
Rocky Soundtrack - Bill Conti (1976)
Rocky II Soundtrack - Bill Conti (1979)
Tubular Bells - Mike Oldfield (1973) [stereo press]
Ommadawn - Mike Oldfield (1975)
Moondawn - Klaus Shulze (1976)
X - Klaus Shulze (1978)
Sequencer - Synergy (1976)
Stratosfear - Tangerine Dream (1976)
Flag - Yello (1988)
1980?1985 The New Mix in One Go - Yello (1986)
Close Encounters of the Third Kind - John Williams (1977)
Star Wars - John Williams (1977)
Tarkus - Emerson, Lake & Palmer (1971)
Spiral - Vangelis (1977)
Chariots of Fire - Vangelis (1981)
Music for a Large Ensemble - Steve Reich (1980)
Snowflakes Are Dancing - Tomita (1974)
Pictures at an Exhibition - Tomita (1975)
Queen: Greatest Hits - Queen (1981)
Aerosmith - Aerosmith (1973)

As you can see, most of them are early electronica music. Back when electronic music was, you know, actually good instead of the crappy, generic, repetitive drivel it is today.

Oh yeah, my CD collection:

Tubular Bells - Mike Oldfield [1983 press]
Oxygene 7-13 - Jean Michel Jarre (1997)
Deep Forest - Deep Forest (1992)
The Cross of Changes - Enigma (1993)

Right now I'm aiming to get some more stuff by Yello and Yellow Magic Orchestra. Maybe some Karlheim Stockhausen vinyls, too. And If I ever get rich and famous one day, maybe I'll try to get Music for Supermarkets (of which, in case you don't know, only one copy exists.)

Now strut your stuff.

nothing i listen to. there might be some wiggles CDs from years ago...

Close Encounters of the Third Kind - John Williams (1977)
Star Wars - John Williams (1977)

if you like that you should get the indiana jones soundtracks and the harry potter john willimas soundtracks. the third harry potter is imo the best of the harry potter soundtracks.

2. Revolver - The Beatles
3. Viva La Vida or Death and All His Friends - Coldplay
4. Smell the Color 9 - Chris Rice
5. Run the Earth...Watch the Sky - Chris Rice
6. Amusing - Chris Rice
7. What A Heart Is Beating For - Chris Rice
8. Almost There - MercyMe
9. LOVE - The Beatles
10. Please Please Me - The Beatles.
11. All That Is Within Me - MercyMe
12. I Want To Be Like You - FFH
13. Beatles for Sale - Guess!
14. The Beatles
15. Yellow Submarine Soundtrack - The Beatles

I may also have another Beatles album or two floating around and not right here. But I think I made my point already.

My physical collection is composed of about 10 pathetic CD's. My digital collection is epic beyond comprehension though. I'm like, totally modern!

My bad. I meant 4,000 songs or so.

It's been a long last two days and I've been functioning on about 5 hours of sleep for both days, including having to go to school.

My music collection pales in comparison to one of my friends who has at least 40gigs of music, mostly from cds and stuff.

I am simply amazed at how few people have physical CD's, I guess it's an age thing. I literally have a couple of hundred physical CD's which I will not take 5 hours to list here lol. These CD's mostly consist of house music (which I used to listen to many years ago, not so much today although I still like it) hip-hop (which I still listen to on occassion) and 60's/70's soul music (which I listen to 95% of the time). 2009-01-06 15:09:00

i have quite a lot, most of them are older bands, like iron maiden surprisingly :/ but yeah, i have maybe 50 next to me and a load more downstairs....

My favourite band ever.
How dare I forget? I bought Turbonegro - Party Animals recently. It had some songs on it I hadn't downloaded, so I thought I might as well.

Not true. You like some of the same music as me. I don't like that old rock/metal crud. All they give is quantity, and almost no quality.

Ha. Clank's emo...

What is it about my music tastes that make me emo?

The All-American Rejects, Fall Out Boy, My Chemical Romance, Taking Back Sunday...
They're traditionally seen as "emo" bands. Especially My Chemical Romance and Fall Out Boy.

I'm just kidding with you babe anyway.

WTF? The All-American Rejects? An emo band? They're nearly a boy band! Fall Out Boy? Wow, you know NOTHING about American bands. Taking Back Sunday? Have you even listened to their music? Now My Chemical Romance, I can see where you might get the misconception there, but aside from that, you have no knowledge of American bands.

Well a lot of people tag bands that have "whiny" vocals and the like as emo. Tags are dumb anyway. It is what it is.

I am simply amazed at how few people have physical CD's...

Im quite amazed too, i mean i have so many i wont even bother listing any of them. I must have well over 100 cd's now and still rising.

I prefer owning music on cd's, just feels more like i actually own them and if my harddrive dies i wont have to download all my music again.

My cd collection consists mainly of old school and underground hip hop, though i have a few mainstream albums too. Listen to a lot of other genres but most of them are either downloaded or taken from my brothers huge collection.

So i got over 6000 songs on my mp3 player, most of which are from physical collections.

Cool and I agree with everything you said. There is a certain special feeling in having the CD with the booklet and case etc. I see your a Wu fan, Ghostface is the **** lol. You should check out the new Q-Tip album if you get a chance, it's pretty dope.

I'm just going by memory, but my CD collection goes something like this:

Basically everything by...

Pearl Jam
Stone Temple Pilots
Coheed & Cambria
Nine Inch Nails
Led Zeppelin
The Beatles
Rolling Stones
Neil Young
Bruce Springsteen
Foo Fighters
Ben Harper
Alice in Chains
Soundgarden
Joy Division
Rush
The Who/Pete Townshend
HIM

And then I have a bit of...

HURT
Nirvana
Oasis
The Killers
Metallica
Kanye West
Common
Dr. Dre
Mos Def
Talib Kweli
Audioslave
Rage Against the Machine

...and there's probably a ton more than I can't recall. The vinyl collection is really too obscure to get into at this point, but highlights include AC/DC, Boston, and Meatloaf.

I love me some physical music collections!

I have about 100 rekkids, not including albums/singles that I bought in my earlier days. I'm only 17, so the one hundred or so albums, EPs and so on in my collection are all proud to be mine. A good portion of it is local music too, which I love. My collection is still young, though, need to fill it with all the missing classics.

Guess I'd classify my musical tastes as alternative/indie/electronic, if I had to. :/

Long live physical music!
