"You people who don't know anything: Get off our podcast" - XD

I recommend you don't follow any kind of script. Pick some subjects to talk about and roll with it. Just keep doing what you're doing. I'm kind of picky with my podcast. I can't STAND podcasts with annoying people and / or guests. I can't find a single irritating thing about this podcast. It's for the fans. By the fans.....all else "GET - OUT" (lol)

*puts on Hat of Serious Discussion-ness-ness*

Every week I feel like I'm repeating myself when I gush about how great PMP is. Since I started following the series regularly I feel like I've become a bona fide PMP fanboy! Something about this week's edition of PMP made it feel like everything was running like a well-oiled machine. All the content, humour, randomness, discussion... it was all great, well structured, interesting and entertaining.

Whenever you guys introduce new content to the podcast I'm a tad hesitant, wondering if you're over-complicating a tried-and-tested format, but this week seemed to click perfectly, like a culimation of the previous bits and pieces you've tried out. Also, it's an awkward ask, but hopefully you guys understand what I'm trying to say: I would also be wary of the podcast turning into a name-drop-fest with the same four or fives names popping up again and again amongst all the brilliant silliness. That's not really a criticism at all, because I love the sense of community it provides, and I wouldn't want you to think you're not doing an excellent job with Forum Soup and Q&A, reaching out to the community as widely as possible. PMP #21 was really well edited, flowing well, two hours in length but never dragging or stalling. Quality guests in King Syroc himself, and the irreplaceable Mnniska. Brilliant answers to questions. Top notch. Smexcellent work fellas. It just gets better and better... and better.

Woo-hoo! Excellent feedback from WierdyBeardy! You made us feel great, but it also points out something we need to work on! I can see exactly what you mean by name dropping being an issue. I can really see it being an issue with new listeners since they will have no idea who we are talking about. So perhaps we will just have to leave the name dropping to q&a instead of throughout (though I do love to bring up Trindal whenever we begin to go off topic ).

It's good to hear that you think that the podcast flowed so well. As you know, when the podcast is recorded it doesn't seem to flow nearly as smoothly as the end result because it doesn't. Tom does and outstanding job editing out a LOT of junk to make it the enjoyable end result that we all get to listen to. After hearing episode 21 for the first time I texted him right away to tell him how great it turned out because we had some rough spots recording, especially as we stumbled through the new segment which turned out great thanks to Mnniska's hilarious voice acting and Tom's incredible editing :-)

Thanks for the great feedback WeirdyBeardy

first of all, I second what WeirdyBeardy said about the podcast! it was well constructed and never seemed to veer too far away from the 'script' (LOL... as if there is one). I'm not quite as concerned as he is about introducing new content because it can offer something fresh for both the listener and yourselves; there's nothing worse than routine getting in the way of inspiration. I loved the new section too! I would consider going one step further for those members of the community that go way beyond what is acceptable and stray regularly into what can only be described as bullying: The Good, The Bad, The Pathetic and 'The Outed'.

I would also consider fleshing out some of the more 'serious' topics. two hours is a long time and there's absolutely no reason not to go into more detail. I have to say though that I strongly disagree with Young'n on smart glass. yes it can offer another dimension to gaming but not on a par with the Wiiu. there is no way that smart glass will allow your phone to carry on playing those games when the TV is turned off and there's certainly no way you could actually use your phone as a legitimate controller. it's at best a poor effort to jump on the bandwagon and in no way a threat to the Wiiu. The Vita on the other hand IS. You can carry on playing the game when the TV is occupied, you can use it as a controller, you can have a related experience on the Vita but not necessarily the same experience. Everything the Wiiu offers... but there's more: you can take that experience AWAY from your TV outside or while commuting. this is one of the reasons I think people are underestimating the new DLC coming to LBP2 that allows communication between the Vita and the PS3. it's not just what it can do, it's what it means for the biggest selling point of the Wiiu

When it comes to level length I find myself ambivalent. I've played levels that are 5 minutes long and struggled to find the enthusiasm to finish them and on the other hand I've played 15 minute levels and been disappointed when they've ended. the secret (at least for me) is having spot points in the level that either please the eye or amazing with imaginative platforming. I think it's the sense of discovery that captivates a player; that sense that you just want to see what the creator comes up with next

It's always nice hearing the voice behind the name and Syroc was no exception. I found him mild mannered, shy and humble (my favourite sort of person); although I have to say that at times I was confused and couldn't determine whether it was Mnniska or Syroc speaking!!! I imagined a Gollum like scene with Mnniska changing personas as he looked at a different camera... but that was probably just me...

"We likes Ponies... our precious...'
"Share them. Yes, yes, share them."
"No! They're our precious."

Well, you get the picture.

All in all, most enjoyable!! keep up the good work and keep on waffling

Firstly, I know that Taffey is an editing wizard from the fact that he managed to make me sound reasonably coherent.

Secondly, I for one am excited and intrigued about the Cross Controller DLC thingy; like most things, if people embrace the possibilities I reckon some rather spiffy new level dynamics will see the light of day. It may or may not be a Wii U Killer... but such things don't really concern me because inter-platform fan rivalry always seemed like a waste of time to me. *shrug*

Thirdly, I could listen to Mnniska say the words "Shoot my other eye out" all day long.

And finally, I don't know who "Weard" is, but he will die.

@GribbleGrunger: It's good to hear that you enjoyed the podcast! I am very happy that the new section is well accepted because I wasn't sure what people would think of it, but then again, with Mnniska doing voice acting how can you go wrong

I'll give some thought to something that we can delve a bit deeper into for a serious talk. Thanks for the idea!

LOL! You called me Young'n! It seems half the listeners think of me as old and half young. Perhaps it is because of the difference in age groups listening? And it doesn't help that I am about in my 30s and have such a silly high voice And to think, Tom thought people would make fun of his voice

Anyway, I can see where you are coming from with thinking SmartGlass will not do so hot. There are positives and negatives to what each of the consoles is doing. My feelings for SmartGlass was that the cost of entry is so low because almost everyone has everything that they need. If the cost of entry was the same for all of them, though, I would take what Sony and Nintendo are doing over what Microsoft is doing in a heartbeat. The thing is, I am good to go for SmartGlass already, so it is hard not to be excited :-D

Yeah for someone who likes at least slightly longer levels in some cases! Glad to hear that there is a least one of you out there!

Your description of the fact that Syroc was just one of Mnniska's other personalities was excellent! Had me laughing out loud :-)

@WeirdyBeardy: It seems that people are more excited about the cross-control stuff than what the folks on the Planetarium chat let on while we were recording. It was pretty negative at that time but it seems that responses to the podcast show much more positive feelings.

As for Mnniska saying "I'll shoot my other eye out", I couldn't agree with you more :-)

So here is an edition/episode/podcast that got the guest/recurring guest dynamic a bit back to front with Syroc being the one with the least amount of airtime and Mnniska edging out into the spotlight. It doesn?t seem as though this was much of a bad thing though as it seems that Syroc is more of a quiet type person so having Mnniska there to even out the boards may be just the thing.

I thought Syroc?s segments were interesting and it was fun to hear about how he has gotten to where he is and how he approaches LBP and the LBP community. It is fun to get his takes on the news items and your questions and the Mac as the best console ever is a great response.

Good luck on your Community Coordinator role Syroc. I?m sure that the intensity and activity will explode once the game goes retail and you?ll really have your hands full and work cut out for you. Cheers.

-----

Mnniska was a fun guest to have on as well not to leave him out of the spotlight. There is a good reason why he gets brought up so much throughout the different podcasts.

-----

When I was very little I got my first personal computer experiences with a Mac. Lots of fun and I went through lots of freeware games on it. It wasn?t until later that we finally got an Atari 2600 and I moved on from there but I've still got a soft spot for the old Mac.

I think that I've played LBP and LBP2 the longest as I normally get to the end of a game and then move on. MMORPG games are different as they don't end so I've put a lot of time into some and I remember a lot of time put into Final Fantasy 7 on the PS1 and even longer ago Ultima Exodus for the NES.

-----

I?m really looking forward to the Cross-play DLC but I don't think that it will be widely utilized. I?m guessing that it?ll be slightly less widespread than the Move DLC. But the LBP community, a part of it anyway, can be very loyal and zealous and I can see a lot of LBP players shacking up with a Vita just for the LBP version and will gladly jump onto the Cross-play DLC bandwagon.

I can see a number of levels out that use the DLC in a single player setting to recreate the reality shifting game mechanics of Legacy of Kain: Soulreaver and to a limited extent the dimension hopping Quantum Conundrum. I?m sure that we?ll be just as amazed at the diverse and creative uses that people come up with once it is out and I?m looking forward to it.

-----

I like the smart glass approach from Microsoft for the same reasons that AFP stated, the cost of ownership is very low or non-existent for most gamers thus making it more approachable.

I also agree with a lot of comments already posted in that if I?m watching a movie I will not be watching a second screen for trivia, behind-the-scenes data or other chaff. If I?m playing a game I normally am focused solely on the game and don't want to break focus for random button pushing. They can still use it in ways that make sense if done correctly though.

-----

The new segment was fun to listen to though it did seem to break up the flow a bit. First there was the lengthy discussions about just the intro jingle followed by the lengthy discussion and explanation of what the segment even was so that what could have been a five minute ten turned into what felt like ten but still with only four minutes of content.

I?m sure that as the segment gets worked into the podcast more it?ll flow more smoothly with the other segments.

I agree partially with something that Weirdybeardy mentioned in that the episode is becoming a name-dropping parade. This is similar to what I've said a few times about the meme-ification of PMP with all the different, ?The News?, ?Toilet dragon?, ?Mnniska?, squeaky chair, ?Bilar?, food discussion and so on and so on.

I think this is more of the continued community involvement between PMP and the rest of us in that y?all are discussing and talking about people who are discussing and talking in the forums and in general. The same names popping up in podcast after podcast are also the ones who are actively and continually engaging in dialogue either in the community or with PMP in particular.

-----

Kitsune is pronounced, pseudo-phonetically, as ?kit-sue-nay?.

-----

I?m looking forward to hearing y?alls take on the E3 maelstrom in the next, upcoming podcasts. I saw some great looking games and a whole range of great to awful press conferences. I just want to say that the Nintendo press conference, not the pre-conference or the post-developer panel conference, was just terrible.

How can Nintendo continue to be so out of touch with its target demographic. They don't need dubstep, T-shirts and crude comedy but still with the exception of Miyamoto-san everyone who took the stage were stiff, un-funny and dressed up in suits. It came off more like a presentation for the Nintendo stockholders rather than the actual gamers.

Anyway I expect lively discussion, varying opinions and insights as well as a some random, tangential humour.

Great show again guys, thanks. It helped me clean out my garage. Well, it kept me entertained while I cleaned out my garage. The new segment was entertaining. My only complaint is that more aggressive interrogation techniques could have been employed to get LBP Vita info out of Syroc.2012-06-17 17:56:00

@Trindall: There were a number of reasons that Mnniska has more airtime than Syroc did. While what you said was true, I think that the main reason may have been that we were touching on a lot of things he couldn't talk about. During the podcast there were a few times he would message us through Skype saying he couldn't comment on things, and The Good, The Bad, and The Pathetic was not exactly the best thing for him to be commenting on since we were making fun of really bad feedback for part of it and I doubt it is good for him to make fun of feedback even if the feedback happens to be terrible.

I grew up with the Atari 2600, though I am probably a bit young to be saying that. My parents didn't let me play consoles during the NES years, so I played a lot of Atari even though it was outdated at the time. It wasn't until the launch of the Genesis that I dove headfirst into consoles. It's great to hear that you played a lot of FFVII! I've never heard you mention that before.

I agree that some amazing things could come out of Cross-play. I may have come across too negative one the podcast because I think it could be one of the most amazing things that has happened to LBP, but the issue is the cost of entry. I feel that a level aimed at Vita + PS3 owners who are using cross-play functionality may be a tiny fraction of the LBP players and that alone could pretty much kill the functionality since people may not be willing to put time into making incredible levels that only a tiny fraction of people can even play.

It's great to hear that you feel like I do about the low cost of entry with Smart Glass. It seems that just about everyone is very negative about Smart Glass, but I will gladly take something for free and try it out :-D

As for the new segment, I think it needed a bit of introduction for this first run, but going into it should be much smoother from here on out I hope since we won't need to introduce the section or the song.

Thanks for the feedback Trindall!

@Xenon: I'm glad that we could help you clean out your garage! Sorry I was not aggressive enough in my interrogating. That is entirely my fault since I'm the one who came up with the questions.

I came to the conclusion that it was either a mistake in the URL or a strange take on a Sean Connery impersonation when you pronounce your name.

I don't have enough time to comment on everything you talked about during the podcast, so I'll just touch on a few topics. I thought that the guests were great additions this time around. Syroc sounded a little nervous right away, but you could tell he became more comfortable as the podcast progressed. I know it's a real challenge hearing your voice for awhile, but it definitely comes more naturally with practice. As always, it's nice to hear about the PSP side thriving past its prime in the Community Spotlight. I think the first portable LBP will outlast predictions and overlap LBPVita's life cycle after all.

Sharing my opinion on the Cross-Play DLC would just seem like spam since I agree with everything that has been said already. The minuscule portion of the community that would actually buy this DLC would likely be more serious creators. Unfortunately, this would mean that the vast majority of LBP players wouldn't be able to play levels that require this functionality, leaving a small audience for these few creators. Sounds like the PSP side again doesn't it?

First of all, I want to give a little advanced notice that we will be recording episode 22 of Pocket Moon Podcast at 10AM EDT tomorrow (Tuesday), so you can find me on LittleBigPlanetarium's chat room if you want to take part in the discussion. We will be focusing on e3 for this one.

@WoodburyRaider: Thanks for the feedback! I don't think Syroc was nervous, he is just quieter and less obnoxious than the rest of us :-) You are right about needing to get used to talking on a podcast. I remember that I used to get nervous before we recorded for the first few episodes.

As long as Tom and I are on the podcast, I think you will always hear references to LBP PSP :-)

It's good to hear that you agree on the cross-play side. I'm surprised by how strong some people believe it will be a success and others think that only a few people will experience it.

@Cory: I look forward to hearing what you think :-)

@Valeview: This next episode will feature xkappax as the returning guest and if all goes well then biorogue will be the new guest.
