Sticker panel visibility - how is it prioritised?
Archive: 8 posts
Ive noticed that when making objects from sticker panel where multiple pieces are superimposed on a single layer, the way the material prioritises the visibility of each piece seems entirely random. For instance, take two pieces of sticker panel, sticker one red and the other green, then superimpose them. Red may be visible over green or vice versa, but lets say in this instance red takes priority, meaning the green is not visible...well, if you were to capture both pieces as an object then place it from your poppit then the green may or may not have replaced the red as the visible piece. Alternatively you could copy only the green piece and replace the original piece with that copy. Now when superimposed with the red there's a chance that the red may still retain it's visibility or that the green may have taken priority as the visible piece. It seems almost as though sticker panel might occupy multiple sublayers when superimposed on a single layer, with only the front-most piece being visible and the allocation of a particular piece to a particular sublayer being randomly decided upon it's creation...but I can't say for sure. Any thoughts on this? Anyone found a consistent way to manipulate the priorities, or is it always unpredicatable? | 2012-06-11 09:28:00 Author: Ungreth Posts: 2130 |
I recall reading here some time ago that by shift-selecting one by one, in order from rear to front, and then duplicating it, you can determine the stacking order of sticker panel. I am not sure, though, whether that order is stored in a captured object. I didn't play much with it and so far I have just been avoiding having to deal with it. | 2012-06-11 10:06:00 Author: Antikris Posts: 1340 |
I get fairly consistent results from taking note of the order in which the sticker panel (Not the sticker) is added to the level. First bit tends to be the bottom layer, last bit top etc. It's not failproof though. Some more talk on the subject. What do you mean by shift selecting? Holding R2 (or is it L2? **** muscle memory..) and selecting element for element. | 2012-06-11 18:47:00 Author: Antikris Posts: 1340 |
If the result is going to be emitted it's not deterministic. If it's not emitted, once you get the order you want it appears stable enough...but you're better off making use of the extra theck/thack sub-layers. Cross your fingers and hope LBP2 gets an update to add proper layer display priority. | 2012-06-11 19:10:00 Author: fullofwin Posts: 1214 |

To layer I use Thick, Thin, and Theck. | 2012-06-11 20:08:00 Author: Pookachoo Posts: 838 |
Yeah, emitters are the worst for sticker panel. To layer I use Thick, Thin, and Theck. To take it up a notch, you could throw in a thack layer there too. Thack sticker panel will make the sticker appear just behind the thick layer, but in front of theck. If I remember correctly, anyway... The order goes something like this, back to front: [THIN] [THECK] [THACK] [THICK] [THIN] [THECK] [THACK] [THICK] [THIN] [THECK] [THACK] [THICK] [THIN] Giving you 13 layers of sticker panel in total. This spans all the regular layers though. You can usually just go with one thin, one theck, one thack and one thick layer (If you need that many). | 2012-06-11 20:39:00 Author: KlawwTheClown Posts: 1106 |
