Fire And Ice Cream, By GeminiEos

In the Juneberry Ice Cream Co., Things aren't going according to plan. The thermostat's been bugging out- and it's been causing some platforms to melt and freeze in a constant loop. It's up to you to do something, and potentially fix the thermostat. In this short but challenging level, you'll be slipping and sliding throughout multiple timing and friction based challenges involving attract-o-gel, the grappling hook, and bounce pads- sometimes all at once. In a quest for glory, with an ending that you decide, that could potentially change world... Forever. Why not give it a play, and tell me what you think!

Alright, I have played your level, so here is the review, written up and whatnot. Although before you read my review, I'd like to tell you two things about my reviews. 1. The way that I review levels is that I review while I play it. This way I don't have to forget the little things, although that might mean it won't be the most organized review. 2. If it seems like I have an insurmountable amount of criticisms, do not feel bad about it. I'm sure you poured a lot of time creating this level, and the last thing I'd want you to think is that I'm dissing your hard work. I'll try spending bits of time complimenting what there is to compliment, but think of me as a guard dog, sniffing out what, in my own opinion, can be tweaked, removed, replaced, etc. That's sort of my main goal in all of this. Now, onto the review.

Starting off, it's already quite impressing. The candy-striped design seems to fit in quite well to be honest. The city background sticker right near the checkpoint at the start alright, the colors work, but it might be good to zoom out of the sticker, I don't know, don't focus in on it, if that makes sense. Also, you might want to make the music track at the start invisible, but besides that, it fits nicely with the level design. continuing, the character you interact is pretty fun, nothing wrong. The scenery's nice so far. Also, behind the character, I like that white brick wall with what sort of looks like shadow-y fingers popping out, although there's one set of shadow-y figures, to the right more (it's visible in the sticker you provided) that sort of is cut off, and I think it's a little distracting. Sorry, that's just a tiny nitpick, but if you could have it stretch out like the other shadow-y figures, I think it could help fulfill the eery tone behind the ice climber curator.

The way you've presented one overarching problem into a variety of gameplay makes this level a real treat, even though the platforming part at the beginning can be done whether sliding or running. It's great running all over the place though, watching the thermostat change back and forth, in a number of problems involving sliding down ice, and even being able to walk on walls that have been heated up to appear gooey, it's a great idea no doubt. Like you said, it was a little on the short side, but fun nonetheless. When you bump into Ghostcone around the end, there's a switch left visible below him. I'd make that invisible instead if I were you.

Also, I found a glitch in your level. When you reach Ghostcone to make your final decision, the lighting changes, and you can't go back to the previous challenges. But if you fall and die or go suicidal, you'll be sent back to the final challenge before meeting Ghostcone. Not only is it darker, but you have to restart the level due to the wall in your way now, so maybe add a checkpoint near Ghostcone? Anyway though, another glitch I found, when restarting the level, is when you run into the ice climber curator the second time in the level. When the thermostat is changed to hot, and you can walk up the gooey wall, you can then jump off it, like any attract-o-gel, (by pressing x twice) land on the giant ice climber's head, and then jump right, to take a tunnel out. This can be fixed by adding an invisible thin wall between you and the ice climber though. Incase you don't know what I'm referring too, here's a picture.

Like I said, you just jump right after landing on the head, and you'd be scott free. Anyway though, after replaying, I reached the ending. I chose the third option, which simply led to a green lit scoreboard area. It was a little dissapointing, and I'm guessing the other options were similar in what happened. It might be good to at least have characters around the scoreboard, like by choosing the third option, you're led to Green scoreboard, and around it are human-icecream hybrids, just like the third option would've led to. That's just me though.

Overall, this was a lot of fun playing, you really did a nice job. I hope this review has helped, and I'd love to see more levels by you in the future.

Thanks for your review, I'll be implementing those bug fixes when I get the chance. In regards to the ending though, the fact that the *spoiler* impact of your decision is just the light at the checkpoint is actually a big part of the joke. The ending is actually a reference to the terrible ending of Mass Effect 3.2012-06-10 15:38:00

Ooooh okay, sorry, I guess I just didn't get that. Maybe have Commander Sheppard pop up next to the scoreboard saying "I'm commander Sheppard and I approve this ending."..... Just kidding of course

I got it queued, looks promising, I'm lovin' that snap shot, the character there looks pretty awesome (:
Well, after playing it I really enjoyed it. The theme was very fitting, and it was all so hectic, and yet you made it work. The gameplay was alright, although I found it a little tedious waiting for the attract-o-gel to become sticky again, maybe you could shorten the time it is not sticky for. Anyways, cool level, great fun to look at and play!

A real fun starting stage, but it sort of feels like you ran out of room toward the end when the ice-cream rocks up. I jumped on one of the blocks and the level ended.2012-06-17 00:38:00

I'm not really a fan of Mass Effect but that level was mighty fine, especially the design.2012-06-17 01:32:00
