ROBO-RAMPAGE X by Dimo1138

Archive: 18 posts

Whew, I'm very new to this whole board so bear with me. Check out my stuff and let me know what you think! I love providing feedback to people, however, I can be a pretty harsh critic. Also, if you provide feedback for me, please do not tell me something I already know. For example, my levels are DIFFICULT so I don't want to hear about how hard you thought they were. If any one leaves generic, uninspired feedback then I will do the same for them. I'm not trying to be confrontational, it's just I have very little time and I don't want to spend alot of time responding to feedback that isn't in depth. Anyhow, I trust you guys (for the most part) and I'll be waiting to hear what you have to say. Thanks!2009-01-05 19:51:00

One of my favorite LBP series has finally made it's way here!

The old-school game-esque, sort of cyber-punk art style is one of the best I've ever seen in the game. Very clever use of materials, stickers, and emitters for aesthetic purposes. Also probably one of the most fun paintinator levels published so far!

The paint switches are invisible but there is a short introduction to each enemy so you at least know the weak spot. The enemies themselves are generally challenging in a way that is not frustrating, just a matter of figuring out the patterns a la 8/16-bit games. The mid-boss can be a little annoying at first, but there's still a pattern to follow so it doesn't necessarily have to become too frustrating.

There's one section with a bunch of turret type things on different layers, this part was a little annoying since there is such a volume of fire it's hard to tell which layer is in immediate danger. But it's pretty short.

It has a good amount of variety to the challenges and the prize bubbles are hidden well. All in all, great level, and a good challenge. I highly recommend it and the author's other works.

Thanks for the warm reception, Foofles! Glad to finally be here where all the action is. Just one question. It says "Lint" under my username in my posts. What does that mean and how can I change it? Sorry if it's a stupid question, I'm new here!

This level is very good if you're a fan of mega man-esque games, but yes, they are very hard, but not "stupid hard" ... .they are "challenging hard". Everyone should check his levels out, especially robo rampage x.2009-01-06 01:12:00

I've got to say this is an amazing level, yet at the same time, it's evil.
The detail you put into it was amazing. Those little blocks sliding down in the background, the boxes with the many crazy patterns, it was simply astounding. I loved the enemies, and actually wanted to find their prize bubbles. The description for each enemy was funny, and informative at the same time.

I got stuck on the mid-boss, because of those little eye-things that floated down from the ceiling. But it still was a very creative boss.

This is probably the only level I have actually restarted after losing all my lives, and I was happy I did. Maybe tomorrow I shall redo the level to beat that dang boss.

Also, the message that says 'Lint' under your name shows your amount of posts in a word. Like, lint, piece of cloth, and so on.

Thanks, Cog! I am realizing that for people to restart a level after they run out of lives is a rare occurrence. I'm glad that you tried again. If you try to kill the mid-boss again just shoot the little eye things if they are in your way, find a couple of comfortable spots and shoot while alternating between them. I hope that helps you kill it! And BTW, if you actually want the prize bubbles, let me know which ones you need and I can tell you where they are.

welcome to obscurity.....

Just finished playing your level and here are my first thoughts.

Great job! Can tell you put alot of time and work into this level. I enjoyed all of it.

PROS

-Very nice looking level. Well detailed and easy on the eyes.

-All customs enemies... always a plus. Also liked how you put the information with them... was very neat.

-Great use of the paintinator... alot of levels dont use it well.. but this one certainly keeps you moving and figuring out where to shoot, which is great.

-Two original boss fights... well done ones at that. Was going to throw in that those floating eyes on the first boss as a con.. becuase I thought they were just an annoyance... then I found out I could shoot them heh ><

-Liked the way you hid / placed some of the prize bubbles.

CONS

-The first area seems to slow down when you jump across the two platforms over the gas... might only be my ps3, it has been running a little off lately, but it didnt do it on the next platforming part with the ones that move up and down... which made no sense to me because the gas seemed more thick there. So its probably just my ps3.

-The XyDropper... or at least I think thats what it was called, I could stand next to the checkpoint and just kill this enemy... I did do it the first time the way I think you intended the fight at least... and enjoyed it...... when I came back to him the second time I just hit him in the lower left corner, not sure if you are aware its possible but yeah... noticed on the second one the little guys jump up at you. The ones on the first one should do this as well.

-The door leading to the boss... it squished me twice..the sensor switch radius must be just a little too low.... didnt have to restart the level, but I did only have one life left when the boss died. Wouldve been a little angry if I had to restart just because of that door though.

All in all it was a great level... I enjoyed the challenge. Hearted you and the level. 5 Stars! Good job! Plan to go back and try your others... looking forward to playing the rest of the series. I recommend this level for all to play.. might be hard for some, still fun though. I posted my level under that "Too Easy!" thread so you may have played it already... but I wouldnt mind knowing what you think. Just put it in my signature as well.

Hey, Doc! I saw you on the scoreboard, thanks for playing. I'm glad you liked the enemies/bosses, I feel that's my strong point. The slowdown issue, I think, is due to the fact that the level is technically overheated (don't know how I managed to publish it.) and it takes a minute for the level to catch up to itself. There are a lot of emmiters going on.
The Xydropper enemies actually gave me some trouble to create so I'm just happy that they do what they do!
The door issue is news to me, thank you for pointing it out. It is a difficult level as it is and I do not want cheap unforeseen deaths involved. I just hope I can fix it, like I said the thermometer is technically overheated so I do not know if I will be able to re-publish it, but I most certainly will try. Thanks again and I will definitely get around to playing your level, just give me some time. My PS3 has been acting real funky lately when it comes to connecting to the internet, which sucks for playing but is a good excuse to keep creating, lol.
Also, when I play your level where would you like me to put my feedback? I'm not sure how this is done entirely. Do I put it here, or do you have a thread going that I should put it in? Either way, when I play it I will put my thoughts in the "Too Easy!" thread in addition to wherever else I put them.

hello dimo, welcome to the LBPC

and wow, when i say, i mean **** this is one of the sweetest looking levels i have ever seen! no kidding. It deserves much more plays and hearts than its currently got / getting.

Pros-

visuals - I've never seen a level to date that looks like yours, and might i say, it looks **** good. My level looks similiar, but in blue, but def not the same. Anyways, looks **** awesome. And the attention to detail is very wonderful, i really liked the falling blocks in the background, and really add to the feeling.

custom content - everything (to my knowledge anyways) is all custom, which is great, i really dislike people using pre-made stuff. The bosses look great, and play great (more on this later)

difficulty - some parts kind of annoyed me, but overall i really liked the difficulty of this level, most user levels dont give you a run for your money, but this one did, and i like a challenge >

prizes - everything is either given out in reward, or is hidden quite nicely, i like that and i like the fact you gave out the race mode as a reward, but might i suggest instead of splitting the levels into two, combine them by making the race mode unlockable by sticker? that way you get more plays on the same level, just a suggestion anyways

Cons - (sorry if i dont come up with much, itll probably have been covered already, but its mainly the fact that the level is pretty much bug free)

difficulty - while this isnt a problem with me, but you may want to put the work pro or something in brackets in the name or description so people know what they are getting themselves into, if not then you may end up with plays, but not many hearts to go with it as many average players will just give up first run

door - yes i know this ****ed door was mentioned, and this happened to be the problem for me with both doors before the bosses, the first being worse then the second though. I got squished by this **** door atleast three times >< and one of them did result in me having to restart

bosses - not so much a problem, just stating that i found the first boss to be harder than the second, mainly because those **** falling eyes were hard to shoot, but got in the way quite alot :/ maybe remove those to make it seem not harder than the last boss? i dunno, but the second boss, while i didnt find it all that challenging, looked **** good! and the fight was completely custom, and the environment changes midway battle, i like that

Overall, great level, 5/5 and an easy heart, loved it the whole way through.

Oh, thought id mention it, the paintinator object isnt attached to the floor and i could push it by running into it this one was located just after the part that says "lets how how you do without your robo-smasher" after the grabbing part ^^ and maybe make the camera box a little smaller on that part, because i ran right into the fire blocks once not knowing they were there cus the camera angle didnt switch back for me not a big problem though ^^

hope i left enough feedback, its all i could come up with :/

feedback 4 feedback - id like it if you gave feedback on my newest level called "The Facility", and you can put the feedback in the thread for the level, there's a link in my sig to get to it and i read you liked boss fights so i think youll like this level, theres two in it i know you said your ps3 was messin up, so no rush. ^^

and another level of mine, wether you want to post feedback or not, Called "Area 52 - Live or die..." also has a boss fight thats recieved a good bit of compliments too, but just if ya want to ^^ my Escape from the great unknown has one to, but not as good

anyways, looking forward to feedback from you, and more levels in the future

Thanks a bunch for all the great feedback! I'm aware that the mid-boss is tougher than the final boss, I say "oh well! Consider it a gift!". At least this way you don't have some super-tough boss at the end making you re-start the whole level. I actually think it's funny that you mentioned the fire blocks because the exact same thing happened to me when I was testing the level but it made me laugh so I decided to keep it the way it was!
Those doors....**** those doors. I just want to make it so you can't go back (without dieing anyway) after you go through them. I will try to fix them as I do not want to discourage people. Don't worry, btw, my PS3 seems to be acting a bit more normal so hopefully I can get around to your stuff sooner than later. Although, I feel like I may have played the "Area 52" level. We'll see. Thanks again.

yeah, well its no biggy about the fire blocks, since you get a whole pack of lives right before it anyways

and you could just increase the switch radius? or maybe do the opposite, move the senser to the other side of the door and invert it, that way after they are through it will close, and that way they wont get crushed ^^

hmm, maybe, did it have a giant green alien boss at the end? anyways, doesnt matter. I'd like the feedback on my Facility level mainly though, althought either would obviously be appreciated

Cool, dude, whichever level you need, I'd probably play them both anyway. I like to play more than one level by a creator (if available) to get an accurate representation of their work. You're probably right about the switch radius and hopefully it will be an easy fix, but good look on the inside the door/inverted suggestion, I'll keep it in mind if I have any problems.

Man o Man what a rush. Your level really gets the blood pumping. Guys and gals you must check out this level if your a fan of Mega man type gaming goodness.

Pros:
This level has the best techno/cyber punk look and feel that I have seen in LBP yet.
The music selection matches the visuals.
Custom enemy's with stat cards using dialog. Great addition.
Excellent platforming mixed with shooting action.
Bosses.

Cons:
The level was a little harder than what most uses are use to in LBP. Will bring your heart to play ratio down if you care about that.

If you could take a look at my level in my sig that would be great.

Awesome, man, glad you liked it! Of course, I'll get to your level. I actually enjoy giving feed back. Also, if you like a good, tough, challenge I have a thread specifically for difficult levels with a good list to pick from called "Too Easy!" in the "Everything Else LittleBigPlanet" section.

I never got past the miniboss, though I tried three times

Pros

- A good challenge

- Enemies are well designed, I especially like the dialogue box that appears before each one

- Platforming is fun

- Secrets are well placed.

- Good aesthetics and music.

Cons

- You really need an infinite checkpoint system in here. You don't have to custom make one, using snowflakecat's would do the job. No one likes having to start a level over.

Overall a great level, I just wish I could see more of it.

Hey, thanks for taking the time to play. I did chuckle a little bit when I read your post. I don't think any of my old-school favorites would be the same with infinite lives! I suppose it's not a bad idea but I don't think I'd implement something like that in any of my levels.

Well, no they wouldn't, but implementing them wouldn't make it worse. Donkey Show is an old-school gamer like you, but he added the infinite lives. Basically, it removes the frustration from the level. Everyone still experiences the same level. I don't see the downside.

Though it is your level, and if your vision for the level is one with limited lives, then more power to you.

Don't get me wrong, it's not a bad idea, I just can't make myself do it. Something about being the guy who made a challenging levels thread has infinite lives in his. I would feel like a hypocrite.
