The Implausible Exam(working title lol)

So, yes, I'm going to do something spectacular with LBPV. I've already begun writing its challenges and I'm looking for people to help me with artistic assets when the game's finally released. Specifically, I need people good with animations of all sorts (still-frame and more dynamic stuff) as well as detailed drawings in a cartoonish and absurd style. As for what the project actually will be... Well, all I'll be saying is that it's a quiz. A big ol' quiz, in tribute to one of the best Flash games of all time, The Impossible Quiz. The actual title will sound similar but be something different - like, I dunno... The Implausible Exam or whatever. ...No, I'm not stealing the questions word-for-word. Writing all my own stuff. Just that, while I do think my art isn't horrible, I'm definitely not the best out there. Also, contributions to writing of questions would be nice, too, but unless I find it funny it probably won't get in. Logic shouldn't be a problem, as it's a relatively easy set up. Gameplay will be touch-based when it comes to selecting answers, with things involving buttons and more micro-gamey stuff interspersed throughout. | 2012-06-06 00:47:00 Author: SLS10 Posts: 1129 |
OOhh. Loved the impossible quiz. Got to question 106 :hero: Lookin forward to playing this, the hard part will be all the text! ;o | 2012-06-06 15:03:00 Author: DominationMags Posts: 1840 |
OOhh. Loved the impossible quiz. Got to question 106 :hero: Lookin forward to playing this, the hard part will be all the text! ;o I'll be drawing the text myself as stickers - I understand Move Paint is now simply Paint, so we can draw with our fingers. Which is great. | 2012-06-06 19:30:00 Author: SLS10 Posts: 1129 |

Sounds good to me! The vita would be perfect for it with all it's touchy-ness | 2012-06-07 19:27:00 Author: Splapp-me-do Posts: 86 |
why not just write them on a sheet of white paper and take photos of them? Because it'll turn out blurry or weird, plus I imagine it'd be less work to write it down using Paint. If I fudge something or it doesn't look right - hey, just a few swipes with Erase and it's all new again! With paper and pencil/marker y'gotta get a whole new sheet, and cut the sticker, and if you don't like the way it looks well take another picture... Tedium. Sounds good to me! The vita would be perfect for it with all it's touchy-ness Ohhhhhhhh my gob ohmygobohmygob it's actually you. With the presence and the here-ness and the not-hating-me-ism. | 2012-06-07 21:10:00 Author: SLS10 Posts: 1129 |
I'll be drawing the text myself as stickers - I understand Move Paint is now simply Paint, so we can draw with our fingers. Which is great.I'm not actually sure if you'll be able to do that... There is a 'paint' function for materials, but not for stickers as far as I know. At least not yet. You may need to go with the photograph option. Alternately, notes can now be set as visible in play mode. You can set them to varying levels of visibility (background, no background, etc), tweak the size and font, connect them to inputs, etc. That's probably your best bet. | 2012-06-12 00:08:00 Author: Taffey Posts: 3187 |

But fuuuuuuuuuudge I wanna hand-draw the words/letters/everything so badly. D: D: D: | 2012-06-12 09:32:00 Author: SLS10 Posts: 1129 |
It might not have been there when Taffey played it but i'm certain that this feature will be there when the game ships. it would be a huge oversight if it wasn't there considering touch is the main selling point. drawing was introduced because of the MOVE so it follows that drawing will be introduced because of touch too | 2012-06-12 13:58:00 Author: GribbleGrunger Posts: 3910 |
But fuuuuuuuuuudge I wanna hand-draw the words/letters/everything so badly. D: D: D:You could still potentially do it with materials... In fact I'm positive you can, and it will look good too. I probably can't say anything else with regards to the specifics because of the beta NDA, but I have an idea of how you could do this. What I can say is that with the new dephyicalize tool, you can minimize the impact to the thermo (probably by quite a bit) by setting the materials to static and also dephyicalizing them. The game will ignore them for everything except their visual properties, so you should be able to achieve a convincing hand-drawn look. It may also be one of those things like online create - it may not be available initially but it could be added in later. | 2012-06-12 17:38:00 Author: Taffey Posts: 3187 |

How comfortingly reassuring of you both. I bring a project update! Planning phase and writing questions/joke ideas down. I have several reference-based ones, ones based on absurd breeds of logic, fake-outs... Oh, yes. Just gotta scale 'em so they escalate properly in "difficulty." One problem, though. I'm wanting 100 questions and so far I have... Like, maybe 15. And I'm not even sure of most of them. Of course, this is pre-pre-pre-alpha kind of stuff, but it's still concerning. I'm straining for ideas. Got my note stuff right in front of me when I think of things, naturally, too. We'll see what happens. | 2012-06-13 01:47:00 Author: SLS10 Posts: 1129 |

I admire your effort, but these aren't the kind of questions that I'm going for. If you've never played the flash game The Impossible Quiz, I recommend doing so. (Find the version with music. Might be in Splapp's deviantart.) Those are the kind of questions and challenges that I'm looking for - not things grounded in facts, but in their own brand of unique logical working (i.e. Question 32: Itty Bitty Baby? with the answer being "Yes, about 20 cm" or something). It's more of a test of nerves and tolerance than it is of knowledge. | 2012-06-13 02:34:00 Author: SLS10 Posts: 1129 |
