Hey you! First of all, thank you for clicking on my post. I really appreciate it Now to business.
I am an avid reader. I've read A LOT of books ever since I became addicted to them in 6th grade. However, lately I've had a really tough time finding new series or books to read. I read fiction.....that's pretty much it >.>
Sci-fi, fantasy and all other sub categories that related to those two. All of the books in the list below are ones that I have already read. The ones that I especially love will have a happy face

-Hunger Games Trilogy
-Twilight Series
-Inheritence Cycle (Eragon,Eldest..etc)
-Artemis Fowl Series
-Brave New World
-the GONE novels
-The Scorpion Shards series
-The Abhorsen Series by Garth Nix
--------------Also by Garth Nix
---------------Gate Keeper
---------------Pathfinder
-The Timemachine
-All of the Witch&Wizard books
-Incarceron Series
-The Unicorporated Series (The Unicorporated Man&War)
-The Fallen (It has to do with Angels & Demons and god and all that stuff)
-The Dragon&Wizard Heir
-Wicked Series
-The Chronicles of Vladimir Todd
-The Angel Experiment Series
-The Percy Jackson Series
-The Keys to the Kingdom Series
-City of Ember
-Enders Game & Shadow
I've also read a whole bunch of books that aren't series, but stand alone novels. I'm not going to list those though because I only own about two of my own, the rest that I've read were checked out from a library and I can't remember them. I hope that that list gave you an idea of what I like to read. If you have any suggestions please reply to the post. Thank you!

Dang it, the first thing I was going to suggest when I read the beginning of your post was the Hunger Games series. (Although I still need to read Mockingjay...)

As for other series to recommend, although I read it when I was a lot younger, there's the Cirque Du Freak series. Each book is on the short side iirc, but there are also twelve in total.

@Ungreth
Yeah! A friend actually suggested that Dark Tower series to me once, but I never actually read it. I kept putting it off, but you just might have pushed me over the edge
@Dragonvarsity That has also been suggested to me, but it never really caught my attention. I'll try it out just for you

Keep the suggestions comin' I can handle them!! >: (

Noughts and Crosses? Not exactly fantasy, but a brilliant read nonetheless. 2012-06-03 23:32:00

Heh, thanks. I'll have to find some good books to read as well this summer, so thanks for starting this thread. I love threads like this and the recipe thread, sharing different books and whatnot for people to try out.

(Which reminds me....I still have to mention a wonderful desert recipe I found... whoops, getting off topic)

Anything by Terry Pratchett, but specifically anything that takes place on Discworld. Discworld Is a richly explored environment which has more than one main character. There are books that feature Rincewind the "Wizzard" (and usually his ancient friend, Cohen the Barbarian), Granny Weatherwax (A wise old witch), Death (The Grim Reaper, not the emo "eye of horus" Death), The Night Watch (mainly it's commander, Sam Vimes), Tiffany Aching (a young witch in training, watched over by her little guardians, the Nac Mac Feegle), and my latest favorite, former swindler "Moist Von Lipwig".

These stories are well written and full of adventure, intrigue and humor. They entertain while sometimes taking on complex issues like oppression, duty, war and discrimination without feeling heavy handed or preachy. Some cherished recurring characters that appear in several series would be Lord Vetinari (the 'tyrannical' patrician of Ahnk-Morpork), Death (who usually has at least one line in most books.), the staff of Unseen University, led by the Archchancellor (currently Mustrum Ridcully), the Ahnk-Morpork city watch, Mr Slant (A zombie lawyer who has been undead so long that he knows every legal loophole there is to know)... there's really too many great characters to name them all.

It's not necessary to read them all in order, because the chronological order in which they were published skips from one protagonist in one book to a different one in the next, but it would benefit you to read each main characters books in their respective story line's order. Like... read all the Rincewind books in order, and read all "The Watch" books in order, etc... (wikipedia or various fan sites do a decent job in helping you figure all this out)

Hmm, I've always been a fan of Orson Scott Card's Alvin Maker and Ender's Game series.
Then there's Johnathan Stroud's Batimaeus Trilogy which is essesntially about a demon an his many adventures in an alternate modern day London.
Someone already mentioned Pendragon by D.J. Machale so I'll second that.
Plus there are countless Classics.

A Song of Ice in Fire if you're ready to go into something a million times more meaningful, well-written and mature than Twilight.
And also the Bartimaeus Trilogy by Jonathan Stroud. It has depth, interesting characters, great concept and great humor.

chronicles of ancient darkness, starts with wolf brother.
if you're up to it, the Discworld books by Terry Prattchett. There are mini-series within them- not within the books themselves, but there are about 40+ books he's written, so some books focus on different characters.
i'm just starting on the Kurt Wallander series of crime novels- i'll edit/post later on to tell you if they're good or not.

oh, and the hitchhiker's guide to the galaxy novel series is fantastic. the books are by douglas adams, there's some refurbished ones on the shelves that are a little pricey but you can get a book with the first four in it that's not so bad. obviously, starts with Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, then Restaurant at the End of the Universe, and I can't remember what comes after, but yeah, it'll tell you on the cover.

If you want to look at something a bit different than full-fiction, I highly recommend Jules Verne.

- 20.000 Miles Under the Sea ---> Mysterious Island (Its a trilogy, but I dont remember what the first book is named and you dont even need to read, those two are important, you wont miss anything on the story)

15 Years Old Captain is also interesting. And many other books.
