No plays

I have been playing LBP for quite some time and I have become quite a skilled creator. I have made some amazing levels better than some stuff on the cool pages and I publish them and only get one or two plays. I will publish a level and only get like three plays and it bothers me, I put hours into my work and for nothing. I used to get at least 20 plays on my levels that were crap and now I don't get any, I know this happens to others and it would just be nice if everyone got more for their hard work. Does anyone else feel the same? | 2012-06-03 18:57:00 Author: Bbody Posts: 43 |
You're in the majority, try posting your levels in the spotlight/showcase section of the forums. The guys and gals in there will play through it, review it and if its good enough, will place it in the in game hub which Mm advertises in the news feed. This should get it some more attention from the community. | 2012-06-03 19:06:00 Author: ForgottenEnigma Posts: 1414 |
Thanks for the advise! | 2012-06-03 19:16:00 Author: Bbody Posts: 43 |
Thanks for the advise! i'll take a look later edit: i've just queued some up... but the first thing that struck me was how specialized some of them are. Perhaps, you may want to find out what people are playing at the moment and create along those lines for a while? i also noticed that the names for your levels aren't very inspiring (got to be honest) | 2012-06-03 19:31:00 Author: GribbleGrunger Posts: 3910 |
I used to be like this, but shortly after joining here, I realised that those things don't matter. What's important is that you had fun making it, and if you put a lot of effort into it than I'm sure the few that do play it will recognise this and have just as much fun. Try to create a lasting impression on those that do instead of trying to reach the masses | 2012-06-03 20:47:00 Author: kirbyman62 Posts: 1893 |
I will publish a level and only get like three plays Most of your levels have 50+ Plays though... | 2012-06-03 21:11:00 Author: TheMonkeyBlade Posts: 687 |

YESSS... A level its MM pick for a simple level but a advanced logic game gets 100 views | 2012-06-04 01:12:00 Author: Teepeenocks Posts: 102 |
...I have made some amazing levels better than some stuff on the cool pages... Practically everything is better than the garbage we still seem to call "cool". Anyways, I feel your pain. I once too was an undiscovered, self - proclaimed "totally awesome" creator. The only thing I can say is get your level known one way or another, whether it's getting people that join you to play it, or advertising your levels. But remember, there is a very fine line between advertising, and spamming. | 2012-06-04 02:47:00 Author: Cobaltor Posts: 222 |
Most of your levels have 50+ Plays though... Sorry for some of the confusion people, the levels of mine that have plays are my levels that I consider crap. My levels that I put time into I deleted because I was just ashamed. i'll take a look later edit: i've just queued some up... but the first thing that struck me was how specialized some of them are. Perhaps, you may want to find out what people are playing at the moment and create along those lines for a while? i also noticed that the names for your levels aren't very inspiring (got to be honest) Thanks for that and yea those are my older levels that I made a while back, also I like making original ideas not taking ideas. Back in the LBP1 days I took something from the cool pages and made it the same thing but with a prize and got 40,000+ plays and I feel like I don't deserve it for taking ideas. | 2012-06-04 03:45:00 Author: Bbody Posts: 43 |
i agree. all zombie shooters gets many views but original creations are hailed as boring | 2012-06-04 03:51:00 Author: Teepeenocks Posts: 102 |
i agree. all zombie shooters gets many views but original creations are hailed as boring I work basically with logic so it's both easy and hard to make original ideas, zombie shooters can be very intense when it comes to the logic and there are new things added to it but then there are many more original logic ideas out there too. My level in which I made a weapon selection menu I though of myself, yes their are other things like it but not a lot of popular ones and I didn't get the idea from someone else | 2012-06-04 03:54:00 Author: Bbody Posts: 43 |
no,no I know zombie logic can be intense because I have a friend who makes zombie level, but, lets be honest, how many zombie levels have you played with more than 50+ views | 2012-06-04 04:44:00 Author: Teepeenocks Posts: 102 |
I find that the title is the most important factor on whether you get plays or not. Your title should be intriguing but not confusing: it should give people a pretty good idea of what they're going to see in the level while at the same time convincing them that it's awesome enough to be worth spending their time on. You might even have to compromise the coolness of your title: "Song of Solace" might be a good title (there's probably something actually titled that--I doubt I made it up just now but I'm too lazy to google it), but a player won't have a clue what it's about, so something like "RPG Style Adventure Game: Song of Solace" might get you more plays. I wanted to title my level simply "Jedi Arts," but I ended up titling it "Star Wars: Jedi Arts - Lightsaber Duels" because I thought it would get me more plays and it seems to have worked. Sometimes it also doesn't hurt to make ostentatious claims: I got more plays on my level with "Most Advanced Mech in LBP" in the title than my other mech levels. There are plenty of other factors: a good custom level badge and description, posting threads here and on other sites, and all of these deserve attention, but I consider the title to be the most important. | 2012-06-06 04:38:00 Author: Sehven Posts: 2188 |
I find that posting your levels on a showcase here helps, but for me it only gave it a small boost. My level (in my sig) was getting 1-2 plays a week, which kinda sucked. So i posted it here, and it got 1-2 a day. Not very impressive, but for me that was really really good, and it was just awesome having people review my level. However, now it has did down again back to my old rate of 1-2 a week. That's fair enough, i now realise that it's not actually quite as good as I thought it was So no, I don't think I've found the secret to getting lots of plays, and to be honest, I think it's just pure luck. If someone with a lot of reputation happens to stumble across your level, and leave a great review, then that will really help, because people will think it's good if it's got respect from them. I find that I think people would play my level if they saw it, but it's just lost in a sea of bomb survivals and Jump levels....... Oh well. I also think that if you want plays, you have to make the levels that the community will play. The majority of the community will play bomb survivals and mortal combat levels and rate/review them as if they were the most original thing ever. It's a shame really, but at least some of the truly fantastic levels get lots of plays. | 2012-06-06 19:55:00 Author: bluesteel789 Posts: 159 |
