Bioshock Return to Rapture Part 1

Archive: 21 posts

Here is the first part to my new Bioshock level.
http://lbp.me/v/bpcwfz
This level is strictly 1 player only.

In this level you take control of an Alpha series Big Daddy called Omega travelling the dark depths of Rapture searching for little sisters as you help Tenenbaum to get them out of Rapture.

This level took an extreme amount of work to accomplish and i have tried to make this level as accurate to the real game as possible and think it does it justice. Feel free to criticize on anything in the level.

I hope you all enjoy this level as it has taken me a good few months to make and at one point even became corrupted when my profile did. Luckily i had a whole profile backup.

Unfortunately i also lost some of the parts i was using to make the level so the second part will take a lot longer to make.

EDIT: Also just want to add in case anyone hadn't noticed the whole level only uses five materials. Almost everything you see from walls and ground to vending machines and Vita Chambers are all made from Dissolve material and stickers.
This is the reason i was able to add a lot of detail as well as a heap of logic.

I remember someone on this site telling me once that a level using stickers never looks as good as one using materials. Well whoever that was i think i proved my point.

Looks and plays great! An excellent opening level that still stands alone as a single stage.

I think that maybe the rivet gun could fire slower but other than that the only problem I have with it is... where's part 2?

Thanks guys i hope it lives up to your expectations.

I have fix a few minor issues with the waypoint not working properly.

Also I have noticed that not many people are finishing the level so if anyone has any issues or finds any bugs then please inform me.
Actually i may make this a F4F thread.

I have just played it, but didnt manage to finish.
The level looks great but I did have a few problems one of which was picking up ammo, sometimes I just couldnt seem to do it.
Also I did have to battle against the layers quite a lot to try and get to where i needed to go but I understand thats sometimes unavoidable.
But in the end I didnt finish because stupidly I managed to get the second little sister killed and then I was sure how to carry on after that.

Please accept this as intended, constructive critism as I can tell it took along time to create that and it looks amazing.

If you could have a look at my level also that would be great, just dont expect it to look anything near as good as yours as im only just starting to experiment with background layers.

Yeah layer changing is always tricky to work with especially as i usualy make levels that only use 1 layer or are top down.

Whenever you get a little sister killed you can grab te vents and another will pop out. They should be unlimited i should really put something in the level to inform the player of this.

Thanks for playing and i will play your level and leave feedback as soon as possible.

wow man. I was blown away by this. You definitely exceeded my expectations going in. I remember playing the portion you put into "projects and proposals" and liking that one very much, but this one...geez, just amazing. I'm a huge fan of the Bioshock series and you have captured every detail and carefully and lovingly crafted it within the confines of Little Big Planet. I was blown away. The details just took my breath away and brought back fond memories of Rapture, so much so, that I know I have to pull my LBP disc out and put in Bioshock for awhile. *GASP* Unheard of right? Biorogue removing the LBP disc? You did that LWB.
I did have a couple of minor issues such as navigating and having to figure out which layer I was on and whatnot, but the visuals completely overruled any of that for me. I did have a major problem though. I couldn't finish I fell down this shaft and was stuck right here.

I just could not get past this portion for anything. I jumped and I jumped and then I jumped some more and each time, I missed that little platform and was electrocuted. I have to revisit this, one, because it's so awesome and two, I have to finish it. Outstanding job on this LWB. Outstanding.

Thanks

I'm real happy with the response this level has had so far.

@xerorogue

Like i sai on LBN I'm real glad you enjoyed it. But sorry for making you take your disc out but i bet its burning red hot anyway after all this time

Actually you have to use the tonic you pick up there by selecting it using R2 ithink or is it L2? One of those anyway. I think i may need more notification there.

Wait, what? Dissolve material?! IT HAS NEVER LOOKED AS GOOD AS THIS. YOU ARE LYING. :kz:

Nah, jks. Anyway, congrats about this:

http://i1162.photobucket.com/albums/q521/Kaboosh99/2.png

I didn't really get what to do at the start of the game (where you jump down from the Vita Chamber), so I randomly jumped up and down until I fell out of it. That's probably because of my intense stupidity, so ignore that. I felt that there could have been more scenes where you were able to switch into a little sister, but that's also me. I don't like it when everything is grabbable, but everything's made of dissolve, SO YOU SHALL BE FORGIVEN. The Big Daddy Stomp thing wasn't that clear (like, I couldn't tell how close you had to be for it to work, because to me, it seemed as if it didn't do any damage).

Now for the good stuff. I really, really think that you have captured that special something in Bioshock. I really do. It's sorta creepy and a little nostalgic, just like the real thing. I loved the HUD and the 'new tonic' notifications. Usually good creators forget about those, but you didn't. The detail on the various surfaces were awesomely incredibly epic. Loved the sound effects too. And the idea with the Little Sisters. And the gameplay. And everything else. That's why I did this:

Thank you, my good sir, for releasing this gem into the world. *handshake*.

Edit: Oh, right. I forgot. If you have the time: https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=70351-INfoTAINER-(SPOTLIGHT-HONOURABLE-MENTION)

Forgive me master, for my vanity.

Thanks for the like and heart Kaboosh
I'll add a better indication for the stomp or make the whole thing break. And i'll try to find the grabable things and place a material tweaker on them. I thought i did it to all surfaces but guess i missed a few.

And wow i didn't realise i was in the top 5 of trending

Also i just noticed the level is in the fourth page of cool pages yesterday night it was in the fith page.

I already have your level queued and ready to go.

Very baffled as to what to do at the beginning. After jumping down out of the Vita Chamber, unsure what to do. I've pulled the driller. Shocked everything. Please inform this simple minded player what to do lol.2012-06-16 23:29:00

Very baffled what to do at the beginning.

What part exactly?

I keep adding arrows and speech bubbles everywhere so I'm not sure how it can be confusing there is also a waypoint marker.
I'm not sure how else to simplify the level.

Ahah the player has to go back in the level to the little entrance in the wall. This is not very apparent. I think it would benefit to put a sputtering light in that back opening to subtly remind the beginning player they can go there.2012-06-16 23:36:00

You have to go through the hole in the back wall then you go up a vent shaft into next room.

Hmm never new it wasn't obvious maybe another arrow is required I should at least widen the vent hole to make it easier.
