I'm out of ideas!

Archive: 14 posts

Hey guyz! I'm in one of those frustrating moments when you're basically totally out of ideas! I'm thinking to make a platforming or RPG level and would like some people that can help - either by ideas here or by helping me building it or even both! I want a platforming or RPG level that you'd like but not only you. I could use help for: theme ideas, building advice/ideas, decoration advice/ideas, contraption advice/ideas, story advice/ideas and whatever you think a little unknown ever-dreaming-for-a-crown sackling like me could use
I'm convinced that you will cook some amazing and unexpected answer! Happy gadding

Join the club. I'm itching to create something new, and my strong suit is logic. My best levels are heavy on logic, but light on aesthetics.2012-06-02 00:11:00

Maybe you could make it a mystery RPG? Those are really quite interesting. However, it might be a bit hard to make up some super complicated case--because those are always the good ones.
Whenever I'M out of ideas, I always play other levels. No, not to steal from them, just to get some inspiration. Maybe try and figure out how things work. I always thought that was why Mm left the logic visible in LBP1 (besides the fact that it was impossible to make logic invisible back then).

The only advice I can give you (from personal experience) is not to keep trying for something new. Keep coming back to play with the tools LBP has to offer and just enjoy yourself because creativity comes out of the blue, from something crazy sometimes. Not consistently trying for something new and innovative. Although that's only from my gaddings about. Good luck!2012-06-02 13:11:00

Agreed. Or shutting down the PS3 and go outside. Do things, wander, travel.

You beat me here I read the saga only once but I think I read the deathly hollows thrice or twice. Can't wait to see what kind of LOTR level I'll make YAY!

Good luck man I just finished creating my first level . Hopefully people will play it, because it took long to make it , especially because I had no clue about how logic worked.2012-06-06 21:11:00

Hi there.
May i suggest if your look for imspiration...
You could try the internet... looking up old classic 1980's games, adventure games, platform games...etc., can be great for inspiration.
If you have a recurring idea that keeps surfacing in your mind, go with that.
Think about what kind of game you feel comfortable making- dont go for something too tricky or complex to start with as this might frustrate you if you start incountering problems with logic or that later.
What type of games do you like to play...can you maybe make a level like that.
An unusual, but effective way, is to go to a video/dvd rental store or shop.... think of a genre you like and have a look at a few movie boxes- you get a synopsis of the movie on the back, so browse a few of these, might inspire you.

To start with pick a genre you like the sound of....RPG, SCi-FI, ADVENTURE, MOVIE/ CARTOON, PLATFORM, MULTI-PLAYER, BEAT-EM UP, SHOOTER, etc.
Maybe even play a few games or demos yourself and ask friends what games they like.

Look at old Donkey Kong, Mario video games for the super nintendo.

Each level has something unique and different about it. One level may be in the castle.. but your light is very limited. Or one level where you have to keep jumping from platform to platform high in the sky and they rotate and stuff. Or you have to cross large areas quickly before they melt and you fall into water with a dangerous shark!!!

Lots of cool ideas that I still have yet to really see in LBP. I get lots of my ideas from old video game levels I remember.

Tank buster is based on Crash Bash's tank battle levels
Toxic Ascent is based on the level "Toxic Tower" in Donkey Kong Country 2
Bubble Bridge is based on the fortress level in Crash Bandicoot 1
Slippery Climb is a direct remake of a level from Crash Bandicoot 1

Most of my levels are strongly based on old games, give it a try
