How do you personally go through a community level?

Archive: 8 posts

Say, for instance, you have a level full of score bubbles in hidden locations and whatnot. Do you try to collect as many as possible? Do you scour and explore to see if you can get a high score and/or collect everything in the level? Or do you just run through the level heading for the goal?

Depending on if the level is entertaining enough, I'll usually seek out hidden areas and items. It shows how clever the creator of the level can be on where he/she places hidden areas. Do they make sense? Do they have hints to know there's a place there, or is this something you'd never find in a million years? The really clever locations and the level of entertainment the level provides in hiding extra knickknacks usually elevates my impressions of the level. You know, besides the obvious main path's elements.

And of course, if it's a rubbish level, I'll either play til I'm bored or rush through it.

How do you go through a given community level?

Like you said, I guess it would depend on the level...

If it's interesting enough I'll stop, have a look around and maybe play two or three times. If it's just a mediocre level I'll play through it once, have my fun and move on.

Very good question for someone thats.. (read under his nick).

If the first 10 meters of so look ugly ( i mean only dark matter usage for instance), im out of the level, unless there is something so funny I must go on.

If It looks decent enough I at least try to get to the finish.
The moment I see spikes just placed on the floor with just enough room in between them to get half a sackboy between them for the 2nd jump.. I exit.

Nahh I can better talk positive,
If it looks architectural nice, I will probably finish it.
If it looks even better, I might play it untill I can go trough it with my eyes closed. Then I will probably heart the level for inspirational or uberfun or uberoriginal reasons..

I also rate according to:
looks crap > needs mucho grande work > decent > I liked it/original/inspirational > zomfg, I couldnt think of this, it looks so good, so solid, much fun and I even had a hard time with all the hard but fair puzzles!

So chances you find something bad in my hearted level list is very small.

Levels that don't present a challenge turn me off but on the other hand, if it looks like crap I won't like it either. I feel a good level needs a good mix of challenge and aesthetics, that will get me to try and find everything and try to make it on the score board.2009-01-09 00:40:00

i dont ever quit a level personally, ill play as far as i can get, and if i dont finish it, ill either restart it if i enjoyed what i saw, or quit if i didnt. If i really liked the level, i usually look for secrets, but most importantly go for 1st place for example, i did just this in DeluxeBass's newer level, Boss Fight 1: Geleupulas or w/e, first place ftw 2009-01-11 06:00:00

I enjoy running through the levels, and seeing what kind of neat gadgets people can make, and seeing how sneaky people can be about where they hide the goods. If i can run through and get close to top score without even looking for anything, then i like it less. for instance, Xx_FAF_Sniper_xX's level "The Facility" has quite a few neat little hiding spots, and some great gadgets, so it earned a heart from me.2009-01-11 09:53:00
