Robotwars!

Archive: 11 posts

Robotwars is an epic story-driven platformer/shooter through the ruins of what use to be Earth, in the quest to find who destroyed the planet, and why.
This is the first level of Robotwars, a project I am working on alongside Ratchet & Clank: LittleBig Problem. If you have played R&C: LBP and want to see more of that and find this disappointing, do not fear, for this doesn't consume much of my time, I only work on this about 10% of the time.
For those of you that haven't played R&C: LBP, (which is probably about 98% of you) I welcome you to a great line up of levels to come, working on this 10% of the time is not a bad thing, for I spent a lot of time on LBP.

STORY

http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=39922&d=1338287757

In this exciting new adventure you play as a character named Newo Green, over a hundred years into the future, on an artificial Island located in the Pacific ocean that remains nameless. The island was created for the richest people to move to after the 3rd World War, which obliterated the entire Asian, African and European continents, and left America in a bad state.
Newo lives in the Island's Capitol; Crux City, a great place to live, so long as you obey the rules, any offenders will be killed. (nice isn't it?)
However this 'peace' you could call it, does not last long, an alien enemy is coming, and the fate of the planet, or even the universe itself is in the hands of Newo Green!

CHARACTERS

Newo Green
http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=39928&d=1338289532
Not your typical hero, he's a complete idiot, and let's people push him around, however after the invasion of Earth, a great transformation takes place, and Newo doesn't take crap from anyone any more

DISC
http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=32492&d=1300945260
This useful little device comes in handy as a Power Amplifier, Melee Weapon, Dictionary, Encyclopaedia, And AI companion that has a thing for correcting people in a Sarcastic manor, makes for an excellent side kick!

TROMD
http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=39927&d=1338289531
This powerful Robot, is responsible for the destruction of the smartest and most powerful race in the Universe, and now he's got his eye on Earth! His armies are approaching, his plans are in motion, and the fight for the most powerful element in the Universe is just about to begin.

Warbot Commander
http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=39931&d=1338289547
This rouge commander was once the leader of TROMD's army, but went rouge and had to be abandoned on Earth's surface, this robot fights the same fight as TROMD, but without any allies... by looking at his fire-power I wouldn't say he needs any.

The Lord of The Dead
http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=39930&d=1338289542
This Ghostly enemy survives off of souls, like a grim reaper, but without the fancy robes, his hatred for all things in the universe makes him an unpleasant guy, but considering robot's don't contain souls, the arrival of TROMD really ticks him off, enough to rise up and begin his rain of terror!

Quite a bit to take in there eh? Well this is heavily story-driven, there are many twists and turns ahead!

LEVELS

I have estimated there will be a good number of levels published in this series, lets say no less than 10 and no more than 50 will be released in total, here is the list of upcomming and published levels
26/05/2012 Robotwars (Cinematic)
26/05/2012 Crux City: Epsilon Sector
02/06/2012 Varon's Secret (Sub-level, accessible from Crux City: Epsilon Sector)
Release N/A Crux City: Epsilon Highway

So what does it contain I hear you ask? Robotwars has excellent Platforming planned, and some intense run and gun gameplay. All set out in an amazing futuristic environment!
Another fun addition is the involvement of Skill Points, which unlock large amounts of points! If you can figure all 5 of them out I'm sure you will gain your rightful place at the top of the score board! (left and right on D-pad to check Skill Points)
So far I have a pretty peaceful level out there, nothing much really happens in Crux, unless you follow the level link at the end of the level... then the game takes a more serious turn.

Quite a view from up there... probably the highest point you'll get to in that level.

Looks awesome! Must be unfortunate to have a title so similar to "Microwars" but oh well. I have it queued up.2012-05-27 14:50:00

The movie intro was top notch. Lots of scenes and great detail. The only problem I had was the subtitles went by a little too fast and I had fill in a few blanks. The story flowed well and was very well written. The visuals were awesome and the quality of the movie gives me high hope for the levels. It looks like a lot of time has been taken and all the little problems have been worked out.The level was an unfinished level as stated in the description. It was set in a city and there is not much for me to say except that I was not able to exit the level with the triangle button and careful grabbing the other sackbots they can get a little angry. The movie is a must see, with some clever visuals that rival anything I have seen.

wow, great teaser. This series looks promising and I can't wait to see it finished. The city street you made was really cool. I liked how those cars would go by then go up into the garage? Pretty cool. awesome work.2012-05-28 05:46:00

The cars were a pain in the butt I can tell you that, took up a good chunk of the day! (It was a really long day)

I am surprised that the Teaser was enjoyed as much as it was.

@NOT_SCOT
Will check out and review your level asap (though it will take a few days, due to lack of broadband)

This is a really cool intro movie, and the part of the level that we can play is very promising! I can't wait to play more of it, so I hope you complete it soon! I loved the effects in the movie, and the futuristic cars are really cool. Only piece of advice i can give you is to make the subtitles visible for a little longer. I couldn't read them in the playable part.2012-05-28 13:58:00

Well looks like I will be extending the time the subtitles are on for, I understand what it's like playing a level with fast subtitles (annoying)

I have some more detail being added to the Epsilon Sector, including some detail to the Museum, some speech bubble fixes, an objective indicator, and some control instructions... oh and maybe the N-ergy plant/museum!

EDIT: Which subtitles were the worst, because some are harder than others to lengthen. If I were to make all of them twice as long, it would require a lot of work, where as some are not so hard to change.

Sorry for the double post, but today I updated the Crux City Level, now you can go into the N-ergy Power Station, and when you have completed the level you should be taken to a sub-level cinematic, in which some stuff goes down... some pretty big stuff...2012-06-02 10:08:00

I decided the other day to completely leave this and my other Ratchet & Clank levels behind, as they just straight up were not fun. But I had such an awesome story lined up for this one, makes me sad that I got bored of creating. I liked working on this project, but R&C:LBP was boring to work with and I no longer enjoy working on it, or anything on LBP during that time. I tried to return to it a number of times but it was just terrible. However this project is actually quite fun to create. So I put more effort into the story (yes believe it or not, the previous one wasn't up to my standard) and have come up with a new title and all. I shall call it:

Fulcrum

The universe itself would be nothing without life, all life can be tracked back to the Fulcrum; an energy which never had a beginning nor an ending. Or at least it's not supposed to... this Fulcrum is being threatened by someone controlling an Ant-Fulcrum is you like, TROMD. Currently the Fulcrum lies deep within a human life form on Earth; Newo.

Newo does not know it, but many generations ago is great grandfather brought out the Fulcrum power and used it to destroy an earlier form of the Anti-Fulcrum, being controlled by a man called Swarf Steel. This one fact leads to the obvious assumption that Swarf and TROMD could be connected, only one person has the power to find out. Unforunately Newo's physical and mental abilities are far too weak to awaken the true potential of the Fulcrum.

This of course leads to a strong main character, but a stronger enemy (the prefect start to a game) the main man must develop his powers to become strong enough to destroy TROMD (sounds a lot like inFamous eh?) but in his way lie the Lord of the Dead, War Bot, and a few of TROMD's monstrous creations! All major enemies have some pretty intense history behind them, maybe some even have a soft spot?

so basically all I did was change the crystal energy to fulcrum and make the situation more serious and less confusing. Oh and the characters have some awesome history!
