E3 2012

Archive: 164 posts

Just thought I'd start a discussion thread for e3 . The time is almost upon us!

A few of the rumours floating around:

Sony has signed a deal with a cloud gaming service. The most likely candidates are Onlive and Gaikai. Hoping for Onlive as I think it would be a better fit. The video quality isn't as good as Gaikai but the framerate is better (60fps vs 30fps). I guess there's an argument for and against. Eurogamer did a versus piece and while Gaikai looks great in stills, gameplay is very choppy.

Next-gen WILL make an appearance according to Geoff Keighley's twitter, "Exclusive to Spike TV". MS/Sony/Other is anyone's guess. Valve?

Lots of rumours floating around about GTA5 release for this year. Not sure how likely with Max Payne 3 just released but Rockstar North was a minor developer of Max Payne 3 so I guess it's possible. My guess would be early next year release but who knows. Do Rockstar ever do trailers at e3 conferences even if they're not in attendance?

Another Geoff Keighley twitter tip-off of the unveiling of a new Star Wars franchise.

A few other rumours around of big titles no one will see coming. Agent? Half-life 3?

Personally I'm hoping for a trailer of Thief 4 and maybe some gameplay. Interested in a Vita price drop. Darksiders 2 stuff. Castlevania LOS2, new Burnout, Dead Space 3 and I guess some Assassin's Creed 3 gameplay. I'd LOVE a new Prince of Persia but it's highly unlikely.

What's everyone's expectation and hopes for this year?

EDIT: Updates:

Few more Pre-e3 annoucements.

Dark Souls DLC announced: The Artorias of the Abyss

Skyrim Dawnguard DLC Trailer: Seems to heavily feature vampires. The vampire models seem to be similar to the older vampires (Marcus etc) in the Underworld series. So expect wings and a not-quite-human appearance.

New AAA RPG by The Witcher developers CDProjektRed: Cyberpunk, based somewhat on the old-school pen and paper RPG of the same name.

Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment and NetherRealm Studios have just unveiled Injustice: Gods Among Us, which is a superhero fighting game set in the DC Universe.

New rumours

Kingdom Hearts HD collection for PS3, Vita and Wii U. Includes KH 1, 2, Birth by Sleep, Chain of Memories and 358/2.

Possible $80 Vita Price-drop.

Final Fantasy Versus XIII has likely been renamed and is now Final Fantasy XV.

Possible PS3 price drop to $200.

Oh, Rocksteady's new game maybe?

Perhaps though Arkham City was released 7 months ago and there was 2 years between Asylum and City. Bit early, but ya never know .

Oh also really looking forward to more Borderlands 2 footage. Wanna see gameplay of the guy with the sword!

Oh also want to see some Dishonored gameplay. It sounds very cool .

Dunno whether to bother hoping for the Last Guardian or not... even if it makes an appearance I can't imagine it'll meet the hype after so long.

Think we'll see anything on the Wii U? I stopped following it shortly after it was announced (not out of disgust, just sort of lost interest), has anything been said about it since? Be interesting to see how it's moved on from the trailer we saw last year I suppose.

Other than that, they need to make Orbis look impressive, my view on that is already negative seeing as the first things we knew about were bad.

Wii U will be there its out at the end of this year so it needs to have a propper showing not the panic reveal it had last year. (You didn't stop following it there's just been very little news in the last 12 months.)

Doubt we'll see Orbis/PS4/Durango/Xbox720/Xbox next this year. I think Sony and Microsoft have enough things going on with their existing hardware so they won't feel the need to be forced into showing off something that isn't at the stage where it is ready to be shown.

Seems that Criterion are probably making a new Need for Speed rather than a new Burnout...

Also yeah the Wii U will definitely be at e3. Nintendo's conference will be mostly about the Wii U.

I still have to finish Dead Space 2 but excited to see what they do with 3.

I guess an appearance of the Elder Scrolls MMO is possible. Hope gameplay isn't in one of the conferences though, they just don't show well in that setting. Still a trailer and platforms announcement would be cool.

Info on the big Skyrim DLC is probably likely. Be interesting to see where it takes place.

Possibly info on the Steam Box?

First off, I believe that rumor was denied.

Second, Valve isn't going to have a presence at this year's show.

Anyway, there's only 1 thing that I truly care about seeing this year: Pikmin 3.

I do know that not only will Nintendo continue the Wii U stuff, they are also gonna showcase NSMB2 and Pikmin 3.

It is said that Sony is gonna showcase a whopping 20 games at E3, Lbp Karting, Lbp Vita, Sly 4, and Sony Smash Bros (I refuse to call it by it's real name) are most likely part of the 20.

looks like it's going to be Gaikai

Gaikai emerges as Sony acquisition frontrunner

Gaikai emerges as Sony acquisition frontrunner

The signs are pointing to an acquisition of Gaikai at the hands of Sony.

Yesterday MCV exclusively revealed that Sony was on the cusp of purchasing a high profile cloud gaming firm, thought to be either Gaikai or OnLive.

Now this morning Gaikai has sent out invitations to journalists for what it is heralding as a game-changing announcement.

“Gaikai has some major announcements in store for E3 that have the potential to change the future of video games, game consoles and how we play,” it reads.

It is unlikely that the deal means Sony is abandoning more traditional models for the PS4, but it does mean that it intends to diversify its offering. Expect disc-based games to soon become simply one option amongst many.

http://www.mcvuk.com/news/read/gaikai-emerges-as-sony-acquisition-frontrunner/097009

Vita Price Drop at E3

Sony plan on announcing a PS Vita price drop at E3.

Two weeks ago, a contact from Sony sent me an email explaining several high-profile reveals for E3. One of these reveals relates to the PlayStation Vita and the plans to sell more units via a new recommended retail price.

I originally took this with a pinch of salt, or an attempt to generate more pre-E3 hype. That was until yesterday when I received an email from another contact that reaffirmed and backed up the claim of the original email.

At E3 Sony plans to announce the sales figures of the Vita, which currently are below target, but off to a great start. The next move by Sony is to mimic the success Nintendo have had with the 3DS, by offering a reduction of ?80 on the wi-fi version of Vita, in a bid to meet it's interal targets.

This reduction will leave the wi-fi Vita selling at a new price-point of ?149.99.

It should be noted that the news we were sent only mentions the wi-fi version and not the 3G, although you couldn't be blamed for assuming that we will see a similar reduction for that model also.

VGI has contacted Sony for a comment and will let you know what they say.

Sony brings backwards compatibility to PlayStation 3 for PS1 and PS2 with Gaikai deal aka "steaming it from the cloud"

http://www.gamesindustry.biz/articles/2012-06-01-sony-brings-backwards-compatibility-to-playstation-with-gaikai-deal

First and third-party games to be streamed to hardware

www.playstation.com

Sony's rumoured cloud gaming deal with Gaikai is to allow current-generation hardware to play PlayStation 2 and PSone games via a streaming solution, GamesIndustry International understands.

According to sources, the service will offer first-party games and be open to third-party publishers to sell back catalogue to players. The partnership is likely to be announced at E3 next week as part of Sony's conference on Monday.

Gaikai already has an extensive portfolio of video game partners that have been on board with CEO David Perry's vision since the service first went live, including Electronic Arts, Ubisoft and Capcom, but all titles so far have been for the PC format.

The appetite for PlayStation 2 games has been proven with collected HD releases of titles including Silent Hill, God of War, Devil May Cry and Ico and Shadow of the Colossus.

The streaming games company has also signed up retailers like GAME and Best Buy, services such as YouTube, TV manufacturer LG and social network Facebook, and is expected to announce further partnerships next week.

It's not yet clear which Sony devices beyond the PlayStation 3 would get a Gaikai-supported game streaming service, but it could extend to Sony branded TVs and tablets.

A backwards compatibility offering at this stage in the PS3's lifecycle would also allow Sony to test streaming games before it goes fully next-gen with the release of the PlayStation 4.

Sony's history with backwards compatibility is patchy. The PlayStation 3 originally allowed gamers to play older PlayStation 2 and PSone games, but support for PS2 games was dropped as the PS3 went through a number of different iterations. PSone and PlayStation 2 games are currently available for download on the PlayStation Store.

Both Sony Computer Entertainment and Gaikai declined to comment when contacted.

Huh...

Interesting...

Chances are it'd only be a few select games though and not a majority. Which would kind of defeat to purpose, at least to me, as I would want some JRPGs.

Oh well.

Criterion's making this one, and Hot Pursuit was probably the greatest NFS if you were to ask me.

This is probably going to end up being a free roam version of Hot Pursuit, and that would just be amazing.

That and a real need to impress the world with their new product.

They've got guarenteed sales to their dedicated fans as soon as a favourite franchise gets released and parents that will be buying it for their kids (NOT saying Nintendo are exclusivly for kids just that 30 years of family friendly gaming has secured them a strong reputation for being a safe bet when buying for kids)

They have to try and convince the new audience that jumped in with Wii Sports, Wii Fit, Just Dance etc that this new console is worth buying into and get PS3/360 gamers to think that the extra features the controller provides to 3rd party multiplatform titles are good enough to justify the cost of a new console.

well I think what Rabid-Coot posted was spot on. there's not a hint of 'fanboyism' in that post... I think this whole thing is getting out of hand on the internet. you're automatically called a fanboy if you favour a certain console, you're automatically called a conspiracy theorist if you suggest that some things are paid for, and you're automatically called a 'hater' if you have anything negative to say about someone else's console choice. I had my concerns about MOVE and I still do. I had my concerns about Kinect, which have now been proven, and I have my concerns about the Wiiu, which Rabid-Coot mirrored perfectly for me. let's discuss the reasons why we have concerns without automatically jerking our knees2012-06-03 15:30:00

Only care about the NHL 13 information, since it is the only console game worth caring about anymore.

All the other good games are on PC. Would be nice to get some information on the Rising Storm mod/expansion for Red Orchestra 2 though.

I just have no idea what Rabid Coot said that was, in any ways, inaccurate. He just gave a logical look at what Nintendo needs to do, and then jump button leaped down his throat about how he couldn't believe an LBPer would dare think logically. Or something. Honestly, I can never understand a single word he says.

But regardless... Yeah! Beat some sense into us younglings, you old timer

Well, E3 begins for real tomorrow. And we'll get news. Not as much as usual I'm thinking, because companies have started to space their announcements out so that each one could have its own hype train. For instance, Sony announcing Playstation All Stars a month early so that it isn't lost in the E3 rush.

... So... you're taking offense that he said that Nintendo is the more kid friendly game system and the one that most little kids play?

That's a fact. Nintendo has the kid market and the Nintendo faithful in the bag. The problem is that they need to convince 360 and PS3 players to jump ship. Aka what he just said.

oh and btw Saying you not saying something and then going on to say it dont you still saying it

The kids bit?

Nintendo:

Safe bet to buy their games for kids - yes
Their games are exclusivly for kids - no

Is the concept really that hard to grasp?

Your dreams about what games should be like does not change the fact that Nintendo games are a safe bet for parents to buy their kids.

Seriously, are you truly unable to grasp what Rabid Coot said? I'm seriously asking here, I can hardly understand what you're saying :/

The only Nintendo game I ever played in my whole life (well, I'm not that old anyway...) was Mario Kart on Gamecube, when I was younger. It didn't exactly make a big impression on me, but what I know for sure is that each time Nintendo launches a new Mario or Zelda game, it's praised by websites and magazines (especially the Legend Of Zelda series, from the Wind Waker to The Skyward Sword, including Twilight Princess.) Video game series usually get worse and worse as time passes by, losing momentum, but it seems Zelda's creators have managed to keep up the good work since the beginning of the series.

They earned my respect for this. Maybe I should try getting a Wii or a cheap old Gamecube one day and buy a Zelda game. I've never got to play any. I'm looking forward to hearing about the new game in the Zelda series anyway!

I must admit, I was majorly disappointed with the Wii and I'm finding it hard to even consider buying another Nintendo console. Not so much for it's lack of adult themed games, I love Mario, Animal Crossing, Zelda etc, but more for the fact that their consoles always seem to be two steps behind everyone elses. I've even resorted to playing my current Wii collection on an emulator (annoying bugs and all) just to squeeze out that little bit of extra visual quality and resolution.

Sure the new system looks great at the moment, but I'm pretty sure it'll be blown out of the water once MS/Sony's next gen comes along. I actually wish they'd ditch consoles completely and stick to making games, as they really are tops for originality and charm.

I'll be watching the press conference anyway, so we'll have to see if they can twist my arm.

I agree on this. I'd be willing to buy a Nintendo console one day if I knew I'd get to play top-notch dynamic games on it. I know there are always going to be interesting games on PS3, from adventure games (Heavy Rain, Tomb Raider, Assassin's Creed), to action games (Uncharted, Max Payne, Ratchet & Clank), including FPS (Bioshock, Dishonored) and RPGs.

Nintendo games on a next-gen console would really be appealing. But from what I've seen so far, the Wii U launch lineup is so-so.

They where was 2 wii one like 360 and other wii we know they pick the wii one to set them apart from others and to be easy to devs but it work too well

From what I know and be told wii is next gen

Oh and wii was a monster hit 3rd party missed the ship big N support was nothing but good it not down to them other missed out

I think this is just a misunderstanding mate

I LOVE some games that are ordinarily seen as 'kids' games and I'm sure Rabid-Coot does to. all that he is pointing out is the fact that Nintendo have courted a younger demographic with their advertising and their games. so therefore it's going to be harder to convince that demographic to suddenly become more hardcore gamers.

it's all good though. I'm sure you will agree with posts by Rabid-Coot on other topics and I'm sure Rabid-Coot will play another of your incredible LBP2 levels.

respect is too precious to throw away on one simple disagreement

They don't need to be there for stuff to happen a trailer or an announcement can be done by some exec at one one of the conferences.

Thats only really likely to happen if someone has any form of exclusive or feels that showing GTA stuff is going to get their conference more attention in the news.

Hmmmm...
You know why Nintendo has only big 1st party titles, because they upset third parties.
Third parties know that the Nintendo fanbase buys the Nintendo games and ditches their ones.
This is common knowledge

As a gamer I can't accept the amount of shovelware that Nintendo allows on their systems and I don't like gimmicky stuff.
Don't like the wiimote (as Move or Kinect), don't like tablets, if I loved tablets I would have bougth an iPad

I don't care to buy a wii u to play Assassin's Creed on 1080/60 fps instead of 720/30 fps like on PS3
It's not worth the purchase, like the Gamecube, I bought it for Resident Evil 4 and everything else was poopy, the much praised Starfox was worse than Jak&Daxter or Ratchet&Clank.
If Sony/Microsoft announce the next system before wii u is released/soon after, Nintendo is doomed, not only the wii u.

Last but not least, I hate when console makers release a new console and stop supporting the old one, like Ninty and even more Microsoft did, but, releasing a successor to the youngest and most sold console is insulting to the customer.

Said that, buy your wii u and be happy Jump, no one wants to strip your fun, we just look around what's happening, elaborate it and make our minds
Fortunately opinions differ and make the World change/go on.

You said this...

that really a sad thing to read alot of games today are base on BIg N games
First platform is Frog by Gremlin just to say, and we all know that the games that gave birth to genre weren't invented by Nintendo
Nintendo perfected some formula, today's devs are still perfecting it.
While you were yet to be conceived Jump, I was already playing videogames from 4-5 years, on Intellivision, Atari 2800, Commodore C64 and, as a gamer I don't feel like I owe anything to Nintendo

yeah OS and showing update pad what did i tell you now games games and more games for E3 big showing

- Nintendo's E3 presentation will focus almost entirely on Wii U games
- Nintendo began discussing what they should do with Wii U back in 2008
- Nintendo wants to unite people with Wii U rather than separate them
- controller is called the Wii U GamePad

- control sticks can be pushed down, button layout has been changed to maximize comfort - mystery square is the NFC reader/writer
- controller can act as a TV remote
- controller features motion and gyro sensors
- Wii U supports Wiimote, Nunchuk, Balance Board

- Wii U menu system called Mii Wara Wara, a plaza full of Miis saying all sorts of things
- view your Mii, Miis on your system, your friend's Miis and Miis in the same country having similar experiences
- The Miiverse lets you see what friends are doing, even if you don't have the same games as them
- bring up the Miiverse during gameplay as well
- communication between Miis can happen via text messages, but can also be viewed/used via the Wii U GamePad
- hand-write notes or make doodles on the GamePad for the Miiverse
- Miiverse allows you to add facial expressions for your Mii
- post screenshots from gameplay, or content that you've created yourself
- Miiverse can be accessed by all games via home button

- Miiverse can be used with games that don't feature online interactions
- these interactions are browser-based. After launch, you can access Miiverse on your PC, 3DS or any web-enabled mobile device
- Miiverse keeps future Nintendo devices in mind, whatever they may be
- Wii U internet browser lets you share what's on the Game Pad via your TV
- close a virtual curtain over a TV screen to keep what you're browsing on the Game Pad a secret, reveal when you want to
- plenty of 3DS news coming during 'other upcoming opportunities'

Technically you can already do that with any Android phone, which also includes Xpiria Play with physical controller, but you need have to root it, since normally secured Android not allow to modify Bluetooth host, which is needed to make console think that it's communicating with controller.

Also...total rip off of 360 pad, if Nintendo, praised to be the innovator, starts to copy, well...MEH

Why not?

It just seems like a feature that exists just to lengthen the list of features in the marketing material and will end up being unused.

yeah. I think it's going to be between Nintendo and Sony this year... and I have a sneaking suspicion that Nintendo will win based on the fact they've got new hardware to show off. but then again, it depends entirely on what you expect from the conferences. I'm a Sony fan but have a sneaking admiration for Nintendo... don't get me started on Microsoft though

So far, I see nothing that MS has that will win my business, I already sold my 360 - the ball is in their court now.

Watched the MS conference. It was pretty meh to be honest.

Splinter Cell looked pretty good, some similarities to Uncharted with the cover system (lets not start a "Gears-was-first" thing) and the climbing but the moving-takedowns were very cool and had enough original about it for it to hold its own.

Tomb Raider was VERY like Uncharted... and the animations weren't as fluid as Uncharted. The parachute sequence and the sliding sequence were both a little dodgy. The weapon select HUD and the aiming reticules were also very similar to Uncharted. The bow looked cool though and looks good for silent takedowns. Seriously needs some work on the animations though.

RE6 didn't look very good... at all. Zombie AI was terrible.

Gears had a short trailer, was ok, nothing to write home about. Then again I'm not a fan.

Forza looked pretty cool, more like the NFS and Burnout games with lots of drifting and stuff. Could be interesting.

Halo 4 looked good. Again not a fan, but some of the gun animations were very cool. I'm sure Halo fans will be excited about it.

COD... again not a fan but there are branching pathways which is interesting. Looked like more of the same, not necessarily a bad thing.

Few exclusive Arcade games. One was like a 3d Angry Birds using Kinect. Another was a kind of fantasy action game where you take down big monsters/colossi. Similar things have been done, but looked interesting. Another one was a CG trailer with a chrome sphere in a sci-fi world... didn't show gameplay. Think it was a Kinect game.

LOTS of entertainment stuff, from sports to movies to a new music service. Nothing I'm interested in so feel free to go into details if anyone else is. Seriously at least half the conference was other entertainment instead of gaming.

Oh and Usher was there....................................... >.>

Oh and the south park game looked interesting. I think. I'm not sure what kind of game it is... sidescroller? Turn-based RPG?

That's all I can think of, I'll update when I remember more.

Maybe its a feature Xbox is getting, he pops out the tv and sings... advanced 3Dz (made better with kinect) =p

but in all seriousness, nothing shown that wasn't predicted... did anyone watch the stream with the like o metre? It was in the red for everything after splinter cell. Was also expecting Ms to big up the skyrim DLC... guess not.

EAs conference. Pretty impressive actually.

Kicked off with Dead Space 3 which looked very good. Drop-in drop-out co-op. John Carver is the other playable character.

Madden 13. Not my cup of tea but looked good. Inspirational sports star ad to begin with which I liked. New impact engine and season mode.

New Sim City Social for facebook and new full Sim City for PC. Looked great.

Battlefield 3 Premium. Like the rockstar pass, get all upcoming DLC and some extra stuff for $49.99.

SW: The Old Repbublic. Update on their plans. New planet, playable race, missions etc.

Medal of Honor Warfighter. Looked pretty cool, not really into shooters though.

Fifa 13. New physics engine, dribbling, smarter players. "Fifa is football's social network".

UFC, exclusive partnership for the next few years.

NFS: Most Wanted. Yup, open-world cops vs racers. Looked pretty cool. Physics system looked more similar to Burnout Paradise than Hot Pursuit.

Crysis 3. Looked good .

Wow... Ubisoft conference ended with a BANG!!

OK first up was Just Dance 4. Same old, same old.

Oh on a side-note, Toby "Tobuscus" Turner co-hosted the show .

Anyway next was Far Cry 3 which looked pretty cool, impressive graphically and also has some cool hallucination stuff going on... also featured a topless woman giving the player a lapdance... you've been notified.

Splinter Cell release trailer, was good.

Avengers Battle for Earth. CG trailer, was ok, not sure really what kind of game it is... fighter?

Rayman Legends played on Wii U. Looked awesome! Looked like a real blast to play, very fun.

Zombi U. Exclusive Wii U FPS Zombie game. Had a very slow-mo CG trailer.

Assassin's Creed 3. Yeah it looked awesome. More of the same in a way but the tree-running looked great and combat was nice and brutal. CG trailer was very cool.

An eSport game, called... storm... something. Can't remember. Looked like a futuristic styled Counter-strike.

And last but certainly not least was Watchdogs, new IP, it looked INSANE! Impressive in so many ways, animations, graphics, gameplay and most of all concept. Was really really cool. Skip to 59:50 in the link below.

Really? This has been the highlight so far? I just jumped in at the beginning of Ubi having come home from school and was for the most part highly disappointed from start (oh god the start why did that have to happen) to finish. AC 3 and Watch Dogs was pretty interesting, but the rest was either out of my reach ( Wii U stuff) or just plain bad. If the bar is really this low, Sony can wow me by just keeping the BS to a minimum.

EDIT: Thoughts on Beyond "Wow!....what?"

I'm sad that they didn't showcase about LBP Karting or Sly 4 :c

But at least we got shown "Last of Us" Oh you Naughty dog.

And I really loved how Sony Allstars was showcased. I just hope now that people have seen it in E3, they wouldn't call it a SSB clone. I mean, they did stuff to make sure how they're different, like:
-There is no health, you can only be killed in 2 ways
-You can only kill people if you use the supercombothingy in which you need to charge up for
-You can also be killed by background objects, like the Hydra in that GoW level
-I only saw one place that could (potentially, depends if people can drown or not) have a bottomless pit

I got very excited for when Big Daddy got confirmed as a character, this confirms that there will be third-party characters in the game! Now, I'm wating for Ratchet and Clank, Sackboy, and Cole from inFamous to be announced as playable characters

Oh no no no no, please don't say that. Don't jinx it.

Fumito Ueda promised he'd finish the game before leaving Team Ico. And he's Japanese; don't they disembowel themselves with a knife if they are dishonored?

Anyway, more videos from E3:

Beyond: Two Souls (http://www.eurogamer.pt/videos/beyond-primeiro-trailer)
Assassin's Creed: Liberation (http://www.eurogamer.pt/videos/assassins-creed-3-liberation-trailer-4)
The Last of Us (http://www.eurogamer.pt/videos/the-last-of-us-gameplay-e3-2012) (seems to have a weird effect, maybe the video was presented on 3D or something)
Watch Dogs (http://www.eurogamer.pt/videos/demo-gameplay-e3-2012-de-watch-dogs)
Far Cry 3 (http://www.eurogamer.pt/videos/far-cry-3-gameplay-e3-2012)
LBP Vita (http://www.eurogamer.pt/videos/littlebigplanet-vita-trailer-e3-2012) (Has the same 3D effect seen in the Last of Us video)
LBP Karting (http://www.eurogamer.net/videos/littlebigplanet-karting-trailer-rolls-in)
God of War Ascension (http://www.eurogamer.pt/videos/god-of-war-ascension-e3-2012-gameplay)
Dead Space 3 (co-op walkthrough) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=8uAhz-1-v9M)

Watch Dogs was definitely the star of the show. Original, stylish and with a cool character. Can't wait to see more of it.

Nintendo's conference was interesting, Ubisoft's, EA's, and Microsoft's were boring, although Ubisoft had 2 awesome parts(Watch Dogs and Rayman Legends), and Sony were awesome.

Nintendo has made me interested in the Wii U, Sony has made me realise that the Vita is actually a pretty decent Handheld, Microsoft have made me realise how much the Kinect sucks(Not that I didn't know it sucked anyway), EA have made me lose almost all my interest in them, and Ubisoft have made me interested in Watch Dogs, and have hyped me up for Rayman Legends even more.

Overall: This year's E3 was interesting, with Sony winning, followed by Nintendo, then Ubisoft(Although they had Watch Dogs and Rayman Legends, they had nothing else that I'm interested in).

EA's conference was all about DLC's. Bleh.

Ubisoft's conference was the best. AC3 looks fantastic and Watch Dogs was the most amazing reveal of the show.

Sony and Microsoft's weren't bad, though some parts were absolutely dreadful. Especially Usher and Kinect.

Nintendo seriously needed to step it up. When the most exciting thing for your new console is a new edition of a game that came out 8 months ago for the other platforms, something's isn't quite right.

Ubisoft > Sony > Nintendo > EA > Microsoft for me.

Ubisoft was good with Rayman Legends looking like ridiculous fun and Watch Dogs stealing e3 so far.

Sony was ok, God of War looked the same as ever, Last of Us looked amazing and Beyond also looked very cool tho not hard to know how interacting it is. Ellen Paige tho .

Nintendo announced a good few new games and got me interested in Wii U. Little too much emphasis on mario though... I mean all 3 1st party 3DS games were mario/luigi.

EA - showed both Dead Space 3 and the new NFS. Nothing groundbreaking but interested in both.

Highlight of MS conference was Splinter Cell which did look pretty good but way too much entertainment stuff.

Overall impression of e3 2012: Meh. Obviously just keeping things moving until the next-gen reveal next e3.

The battery life of the Wii U's GamePad controller has been fully detailed by Nintendo, with a single charge expected to last between three to five hours.

A charge takes two and a half hours, though it can be played when charging via an AC adaptor.

I liked a lot about Nintendo's conference, besides the fact that they showcased 2 games that could easily be fused together.

The New Paper Mario was awesome, nice to see that it's going back to it's roots, not that I never liked Super Paper Mario.

Pikmin 3 was easily a must-have for me. The pink flying Pikmin and grey rock Pikmin looked really good.

Luigi's Mansion 2, I remember playing the first Luigi's Mansion, it was awesome, but really under-rated

Scribblenauts unlimited... reminds me so much like LBP... it's so beautiful... ;-;

Ubisoft, even though you had your own press conference, you sneaked into Sony's conference showing your AC3 and it's epic new gameplay, now you're sneaking into Nintendo's with ZombiU and the new Rayman? Just shut up up and take my money.

So, I was kinda dissapointed in Sony this year... I liked The Last of us and PS All Stars, but I'm not the biggest GoW fan, and honestly what were they thinking with Wonderbook? They did NOT need to show Wonderbook for half an hour, even though that half an hour was my washroom break, because I knew I wouldn't miss anything cool. And giving LBP2 away for FREE to PS Plus members. That's just going to ruin the LBP Community even more. In my opinion The Last of us was the only REALLY amazing thing they showed.

When I went to school today, I actually had FAITH in Nintendo's conference. But uhh... They horrible. After they showed Pikmin, they could have just kept it going nice by announcing more games that would pump people up. Maybe even have whipped up a trailer for a game, or just recorded gameplay.

It's a good year for gaming, with all the new upcoming titles, but if it's going to be such a good year for PS3 and Vita games, how did Sony's conference suck?

They only show Wii U launch lineup, that really odd thing to do they really should show thing coming they need to wow everyone I hope we see more as it get closer we need to know they more coming

launch lineup for all next gen are weak that why most show thing far off and target render's eg "Kill Zone2" well it is BIg N and they dont like showing stuff long way off mush as I love Pikmin 3 i know it use to be a wii game so it a port up I want to see the first wii U ground up 3D games

Most devs and 3rd part are not really ready yet but then wii U out xmas? so maybe we see more soon as we get closer and next gen kicks off

we staring to see high end pc game already so

There's one thing these companies should understand.

This isn't the kind of gamers that attend E3:

http://godmodegamer.org/wp-content/uploads/2011/03/agamingfamily.jpg

This is the kind of people that attend E3:

http://wnews.uol.com.br/wp-content/uploads/2011/05/gamersnobrasil.jpg

99% of the people watching the show don't care about casual or family games. We don't care about Wii Fit, Just Dance, Wonderbook and other stuff like that. We want to see stuff like Watch Dogs, The Last of Us and AC3.

So it's no wonder why people find these shows disappointing, considering game companies spend 20 minutes presenting hardcore games and two hours yapping about family games.

E3 is one of the few times games news gets coverage in non specialist press companies have to use this oportunity to get the word out on products targeted at an audience that doesn't follow games industry news.

So what? They could just advertise through other channels instead of ruining the expectations of millions of people.

Not saying they shouldn't present casual games. Just don't make them the stars of the show. No one attends E3 to see an idiot dancing to Kinect games. No one watches the livestream to get to know the new Wii Fit. Those are the games they should spend 15 minutes presenting. The spotlight should be on the games people actually want to see.

E3 is supposed to be the major even of the year related with gaming subculture. People who'd want to play casual games don't belong in that subculture. If it goes on like this the press should start giving more importance to Gamescom, GDC or PAX.

That's why Sony presented stuff in advance.
You can be sure that with Battle Royal and Ascension as E3 surprises, Sony would have won the E3 hands down, but they just wanted to give a certain image to the brand, a brand for everyone.
Said that, this E3 has been poor.

(Anyway, Nintendo has already an insane amount of shovelware, good work with Ben10 )

Battle Royale wouldn't have won Sony anything. It's a blatant SSB ripoff, the bad joke in their selection of upcoming exclusives.

Ubisoft owned E3. Sony did good. Halo 4 and the multiplatform presentations barely managed to save Microsoft's. Nintendo's was just boring and EA's conference isn't even worth talking about.

Nintendo's was just boring

You seem to be forgetting this:

it would have won not for the game per se, but for the number of games, and that's what gamers expected.
Ubi won...they were the one who did better and showed a great game.
Though Assassin's Creed, Splinter Cell and WatchDogs are the same game reskinned.

So the 3DS conference was also a bust. They barely revealed anything new at all.

I've come to realize that companies are starting to stop caring about saving significant announcements for E3. Look at Sony alone. They announced stuff like LBP Karting and PlayStation All-Stars well before E3. Assassin's Creed and Rayman Legends were revealed before E3.

I guess what I'm wondering is if we really need it any more. No one seemed impressed with what was offered this year, and the companies don't seem interested in showing anything worth talking about. Should E3 just go away?

That's what I keep saying.
Showing 10-15 minutes of your new game, the one where you have invested 60-70.000.000 $ to drown it together with another insane amount of games is not a wise business.
Give your game the space and time to hype.

alot got leaked and Big N is holding back god know why but then they dont like to show stuff to soon unlike say Halo 4 where Ms make a 1 min CGI clip and call it a trailer and then next year they show a real one and so on

if you want E3 to be full with CGI and target renders? next gen is going to take long for games to get to a level they ok with showing them unless they are CGI and target renders

Are you guys whining about not having a surprise since when was only E3 about having a surprise game announcement? Sony probably had GoW for a surprise but it was leaked I believe its not easy to keep game development a secret.2012-06-07 11:56:00

Before using the word "whine", you should at least check the fact you mention.
GOW never leaked, it was purposedly announced, hyped and revealed.

Yeah, I get what you mean, although to be fair, I'm pretty sure Rayman Legends was supposed to be a surprise for E3, but the trailer got leaked earlier.

It's hard to keep things secret now, you get leakes on developers profiles on linkedin, leaks from domain registrations, leaks from retailers, leaks on twitter, leaks from "trusted sources"...2012-06-07 12:52:00

agreed, and it's better to have 4 weeks of hype before E3 than 3 days of hype at E3. winning E3 is an obsession with fanboys not an ambition for a huge company like Sony
