Enigma [REBOOTED]

Archive: 26 posts

I've been working this level for a few weeks now its a singleplayer puzzle platformer with gameplay consist of getting to point A to B, but you build the platforms yourself. The idea is you spawn on platform A that has a cursor on it. You can get into the cursor and place blocks down to make a path to platform B. Once you have the blocks placed to get out of the cursor and teleport back to platform A and jump the path you made with the cursor to get to platform B. The challenge in this is that you only get a certain amount of blocks to place and its not easy to get them to a spot where they're reachable. Does this sound like fun? I'm aiming for a Mm pick worthy level but I don't know if it would be something people would like.

On the puzzle below you would only get 3 blocks to place. This is far from being finished! In the future there will be more block types more platforms and possibly 50+ background animations as you see in the first picture.

I like the simplicity of the level, it can be challenging, I'd imagine, and quite a lot of fun - gets you thinking. The way it's all silhouetted is great too, great idea you have here. Wish I could play it now, actually...2012-05-26 14:46:00

Ok thank you I didn't want to keep working on the level if it was a dumb idea. Thanks for the feedback!2012-05-26 14:56:00

Looks good.

Setting your self very high standards, going for "MM pick quality". I wouldn't pin all your hopes on that. Just go out to create the best level you can, with realistic expectations. That way, if you don't get an MM pick, you won't be disappointed..... but if you do, you'll be very pleasantly surprised.

So? He's going for a minimalist look, which tends to work for games like these.

That is what I'm aiming for I'm just looking at Mm Picks and finding the things that make them great.

UPDATE

The title screen is working but not ready to be showed. I'm planning on having at least 25 different background animations the original goal was 50 but I don't know if I can do that. Possibly adding a story that'll be inspired by Portal, and there's custom music being made by DjVoldo. I plan to be finished with this level in mid summer or early fall, but at the moment its not even 25% finished. I will start working on a few puzzles so that I can get out a beta.

Edit: I'm adding in GlaDOs like voice acting but its going to be a guy named SteVEn. I'm still not sure if I'm making a full on story or just a small thing.

I'm nit-picking a bit here, but it looks like the 'm' and the 'a' are slightly shorter than the other letters. Was that intentional? Very nice looking logo though.

ALPHA testing will start sometime this week (most likely Friday or Saturday). There will be code locked key room with the key to the alpha the pass code will be posted on most these forums the day before the alpha is out. When you test I will expect feedback on how hard the puzzles were for you, any things that you thought needed improvement, and any bugs.2012-06-03 22:12:00

ALPHA TESTING DELAYED

I know I said the alpha would be up by this Friday or Saturday but I forgot that I still had finals this week so there was no time for LBP. I still have another week of school so it might have to be delayed for two weeks depending if I'm busy with friends and end of the year stuff. So the Enigma Alpha Testing will be up by Saturday 23rd at latest.

Creating will be faster and easier for this point on since I have the title screen and the gameplay logic all set up all I need to do is make a few more puzzles and fix some small bugs. The Enigma Alpha Testing will start this Saturday so watch this thread if you want to get the key for the level. The Alpha will only have 5 puzzles but those 5 puzzles will be harder then you think. The music is still being made my DJVoldo but its not done yet so I will be using other music temporarily.2012-06-11 12:19:00

The Enigma Alpha will be published Tomorrow or Sunday. The Alpha will include 5 challenging puzzles. You will only be able to play the alpha by going to my key room and punching in the code L2, X, R1, Triangle, into the controllinator. Once you play the alpha I expect feedback on the difficulty, look, ,bugs ,and any other things that you think could be improved.2012-06-16 01:38:00

The puzzles are done all I need to do is make a tutorial and polish some stuff up. I will tell you now that there are 3 different block types in the alpha you will need to be a decent platformer to get through these puzzles. The puzzles are really only as hard as you make them though so remember that. After a few days of the alpha being out I will post a solution video because I can see some testers not being able to solve some of these. The alpha will be published tonight or tomorrow depending on how long the tutorial takes me.2012-06-16 15:19:00

Well I'm delaying the Alpha AGAIN sorry but its not ready to be tested by the community. I have to record voices, fix bugs, and polish some things its not a lot but it can't be finished all today. I going to stop setting a date for this instead it will just go up when its done which will probably be sometime this week. HOPEFULLY2012-06-17 19:38:00

The Enigma Alpha is up. To play it you must find the frame that says "Enigma Alpha" in here http://lbp.me/v/c7-r51. Once you get there enter the controllinator and enter the code "L2, X, R1, Triangle" and the key will drop for the level.

There is no tutorial in the level itself right now so I will type one out on here .

Your goal is to get from Point A (Spawn) to Point B (the door). To get to Point B you must use the Cursor to make a path with blocks to from Point A to B.
There are 5 levels and 3 different blocks in the Alpha. I will tell you now Level 3, and 4 have two different blocks to use. To change blocks press R2 to see what block you are using and how many of that block you have hold L1.
I said before that level 3 and 4 will have two different blocks which one is the normal block with no effect and the block with a bounce bad. For level 3 you will have one of each for level 4 you will have 2 of each. For level 5 you will have 3 different blocks the normal one, the bounce pad one, and a block covered in bounce gel (bouncy material) you will have one of each.
Keep in mind this is the ALPHA version of Enigma this just shows concept in the future I will make a BETA that will be polished much better. I am also expecting lots feedback after you play.
Happy Testing! http://lbp.me/v/c7-hk8

Good News!
I'm going to start working on this level again I never meant to stop working on it but I was busy with other things. The current state of the level is pretty much the same as I left it. The only things needed to finish the level are a few more puzzles, a tutorial, and music. The music will most likely still be made by DjVoldo but not positive. No help is really needed I work best alone.
