Woo Exams!

Archive: 43 posts

Yeah basically I'm wondering how many people are in the middle of public exams at the moment. I'm 16 and taking my GCSEs. What exams are you doing? How are they affecting your social/gaming lives? etc. 2012-05-24 16:32:00

I had the same exams as you today! Still got two tommorow though... and also this is like my third/fourth week, not first?

Took a test ENEM (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Enem_(exam)) at school, scored 12th place in over 1200 students.

Going to take an official winter vestibular (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vestibular) to get acquainted with it, but even if I pass I won't be able to get in college yet, because I have to finish high school first. Then I will do another during summer and hopefully pass!

Impressive result in your ENEM,well done. Also, I never realised you were Brazilian before, you speak very good English.

Same position as you two (though I'm 15).

I've done Computing, Biology (B3), both English Literature's and Chemistry (C3). Left I have English Language, Business, Physics (P3), Maths*, Philosophy and Ethics (just the Philosophy papers) and Electronics.

I did my first actual GCSE in Year 9, a couple of science ones. Glad it's almost over now, and so far everything's been pretty easy.

* I did Maths a year early (got an A ), so now I'm doing Additional Maths, which is hell on Earth and covers mostly the same stuff as the first year of A-Level. Not fun, but it'll help I guess. Can't imagine I'll do too well though.

I also started in year 9 with some science.

And I also did my maths early (A* in your face, kirbyman ). But we're not doing add maths we just started doing our AS, already done C1 and C2.

In the middle of AS exams atm. 5 down, 3 to go. I've definitely failed everything. Except maths. But I hate maths

Really wish I was doing GCSEs again instead, even though I had twice as many exams last year

Yep, all GCSEs are scheduled at the same time across the country. But it depends what exam board you are using. You are probably doing a different one for other subjects, so you got them earlier.

I am annoyed German is so late. Its after the leaver's party. xD

Just finished up my CSTs and finals are coming up. Still need to take my SAT and probably going to take the ASVAB evaluation too, but that'll be next year.2012-05-25 07:20:00

Curse you! I have to say, I found it pretty tough. Looks easy now though ._.

My latest is Electronics on the 21st, but I heard some people have Resistant Materials on the 25th of June. Is German before or after? Our 'prom' (joy) is the 22nd.

No exams today, mind, and none until English Language on Tuesday. School was very empty because everyone had a Spanish exam (so glad I didn't pick a foreign language, I hated it so much (not to say I hate other languages, just learning them )).

I actually have a surprising small amount of exams left, I just did my English Literature on Animal Farm and To Kill A Mockingbird last Tuesday as well as the English Literature Poetry yesterday.

Left I just have English Language (so much English exams!) this coming Tuesday and Maths on the 13th of June.

As of today, I'm also on my Study Leave. I don't know if that's something that happens in other schools, but basically it just means that I only have to come into school for exams and lessons where I still have an exam left to do. So for me that's about 4 hours a week once I've finished the English exam.

Thank god our party is just a BBQ. xD

I have to stay in school all study leave. I (grudgingly) admit I am probably doing more work here than I would at home.

Study Leave

I think the only reason I did alright in my GCSEs was because I had study leave I've had none this year, officially anyway. And I've completely failed -.-

Our teachers are insistent that "keeping us in improves out grades" despite the fact I do nothing at school and sit there bored, so exam leave for us is June 1st.

I did my English Lit on Of Mice and Men (meh), The Crucible (I actually liked this, it's very clever) and Relationship poems (super meh).

Problem with English is there are times I think I've done well, and times I don't. I'm targeted A* and I've no idea if what I produced is up to scratch or not. Ah well, seemed pretty easy at the time.

Seems like everyone did the same english lit. I did Of Mice and Men too, thought it was boring but I never find texts exciting once I have to look at them in detail.

EDIT: I've been on study leave since the fourth and I thought we had less than most people. We don't get any leavers party type thing though, probably because a lot of stay on for sixth form.

Wait what? I did Jekyll and Hyde for a controlled assessment and loved it, teacher specifically said we couldn't do it in the exam. I am upset now.

How do people feel on the Language exams? The writing is alright, you can be slightly witty, but I swear for the reading the deliberately choose the most uninteresting texts on the planet. Especially Source 3. I really don't care about your perils climbing a mountain or in some storm at sea.

Ah, the storm at sea text. I saw that in the mock exam I had last year, and it was one of the most boring things I've ever had to read. The question itself made the text worse, seeing as you have to read it over, and over, and over in order to actually extrapolate any information from it. I had to spend so long on that question that I only just got into the writing section on time!

Mm, I couldn't appreciate Jekyll and Hyde properly as of course I already knew the end. It took the mystery aspect out of it.

Erk, dreading the language. I bet they will ask me to write on something I know little about. I wish we could write fiction instead. I would much prefer creative.

How "bad" are the books required for english/US tests? Brazilian literature is mostly confusing, and most Universities like to pick the most confusing ones. Even my grammar teacher dislikes the book list!

Luckily, school plays a good guy role and asks you to read the same books that most Universities are asking for. The one I will apply for requires 5 books!

Which board are you guys using for english? Because it seems like we did our lit exams at the same time but I've already done one of my language exams and it doesn't seem like you have.

Hm, I am on Edexcel for English, German and maths, AQA for (double) sciences and geography, and WJEC for ICT.

No idea what for art or photography, I never checked.

I'd never heard of it before, so that's probably why.

And even if he have to do non-fiction, at least make it more interesting and not as hard. "Write about an important decision you had to make" my friend said he wrote about saving someone's life on a traintrack because in his words "the most important choice I've had to make was between Master of Puppets and ...And Justice for All". Mine was just some over exaggeration of something I did.

The Literature is pretty good, but it takes the fun out of the books having to analyse them in such detail. The language texts are non-fiction newspaper articles and stuff, and they're incredibly dull.

English, regular Maths and Science are AQA. Computing, Electronics, Philosophy and Ethics, Business and Additional Maths are OCR. I don't think we use Edexcel.

Lucky. Heard of the analogy like 'Jekyll and Hyde' for all split personalities, or darker sides? I can't remember where I first heard it, but it was one of those cultural things embedded in my brain.

I failed my Woo exam when I was unable to correctly answer who played the role of Benny in Hard Boiled.

I answered Paul Henry, but it was actually Bowie Lam.

They let us home early after the English Language exam. How did people find it? I don't think it was as easy as the other exams I've had, but I've always come out of Language mocks thinking it was tough, and ended up doing well, so with any luck it's the same. As ever, Question 5 was stupid. I swear they make it so they can laugh at the ridiculous answers the candidates put.2012-05-29 12:59:00

I did my very best impression of an internet ranter on the mobile letter question.

Extreme views I find easiest to work crazy language devices into.

Had 3 exams today D:

Business (OCR) was very easy.
Physics (AQA P3) was easy.
Additional Maths (OCR) was difficult, but easier than I thought. I did about 50-60% of the paper, hoping for a D-B.

Physics (AQA P3) was easy.

True but they threw in some really weird questions into that, nothing to do with physics or the syllabus. Not that they were hard, just weird.

Exactly. Going through the paper I was like "what is this", but by the end I looked through and I'd answered every question, and most were right. With any luck it'll mean there's a lower grade boundary.

Also, had my last day of 'compulsory education' today. My friends and I went in with top hats and monocles, it was very enjoyable
