Tutorial: Getting a Powerpoint or Keynote in LBP2

Archive: 4 posts

I was recently trying to make a schoolpresentation in LBP2. It was pretty hard to get it right so I decided to write a little tutorial if anyone ever wants to try this aswell. Taking a picture of a white object normally results in a very grey image with poor contrast. Adding light doesnt help because the PS eye will compensate the "excess" light out again.

1. Make your presentation in Powerpoint or Keynote. Keep it simple and preferably black and white.
2. Print your presentation. You dont have to do page by page. 2 pages a sheet worked fine.
3. Get your PS Eye and tape it down to a flat surface. Put the camera's lens on Blue so its not in wide angle.
4. Get your PS Eye in front of a flat white surface and tape sheet 1 onto it.
5. Get your camera focused on the sheet.
6. Build a sign you can stick your sticker on. Make sure you check your camera and the size of the sign.
7. Get a very bright light. I suggest one of those halogen building lamps and get a someone to help you. Leave the light in the room on. You will need some ambient light aswell.

Tricky part coming up:
8. As soon as you flick on the lamp the PS Eye will compensate by closing the aperture. This goes gradually and between your sticker showing full white only and the dull contrast poor final aperture there is a sweet spot on which the white in the image will be white and where the blacks are deep blacks.
9. Hit the X to make the sticker as soon as you hit the contrast rich sweetspot.
10. Turn of the lamp and wait for the camera to reset the aperture to the ambient room lighting.
11. Repeat for upcoming slides.

The key is to find the sweetspot on which your slide is very easy to read and on which you have the most contrast and snap the picture there. It will take a couple of tries to get right but in the end you can get pretty good snaps with not to much effort.

Why did I go through the trouble? Im building a level for my graduation project and I had to give a presentation of 15 minutes. To save time from switching from a computer with my presentation on it to the level I had to show I put the presentation in a level. Placed a level link at the end and was in my level in seconds.
I passed the presentation and the teachers where impressed by seeing a interactive presentation so all went well

You could use custom stickers but in a way thats what I did. You make the presentation on a computer, photograph the whole slides and place the stickers created on to signs. Using stickers just to make a slide would be a better but really time consuming process.2012-05-26 11:35:00
