Thanks for showing your support, by playing and giving back positive results! This has made me stride to finish this even more!

What is Citizens?
Citizens (title may change) is going to be a level, where you the owner of a huge amount of land, start a city with the money you have. You build roads, houses power plants etc, and must manage your economy at its best, there may be 3 game modes but 2 depending on thermo etc. Sandbox, easy mode and realistic mode (well more like hard mode). Only hard mode will allow you to get your score on the leaderboard (which is how much currency you have at then end of your career). Well that's enough explaining of what im working on.

What will there be in this?
Building and destroying houses on a grid based layout.
Power, money, happiness factors which can change how your city works (e.g. sad worker make you less money)
Random events (hopefully)
Cars driving around your city
Day and night syste

What I have done so far
Cars that follow the roads that you set out (still need a way to emit them)
A grid locking system so roads look organised(will do for some buildings)
Ability to destroy and create things ( ive done roads, power generator, small apartments, houses, hospital, park, shops, farm)
Menu.
Just finished weather
Day and night

Pictures
This is what it looks like at the very start of the game (assume this is sandbox mode i haven't made currency yet) The object selection is at the bottom, the right grey boxes will have info like happiness etc.

I decided to make a quick little town that has the essentials. Right are generators, roads look like roads, the large cardbox buildings(which wont be cardbox for long) are apartments and the little buildings are houses.
http://i1124.photobucket.com/albums/l567/zapunch1/Citizens3.jpg
I destroyed my town with the trusty triangle (delete button) and rebuilt it.

The buildings so far

Problems so far:
Thermo is a massive issue. (If you want to spam your city with roads that is)

Updates will come later. Hopefully you look forward to this project!

Lol, my little bro is addicted to it, so far hes made like 3 towns in 10 minutes (in sandbox)

Ok i need some building designs since im not the best with them.

I also got 1 issue, the thermo D:
I can only emit around 87 roads before the level want allow anymore, and around 10 generators. But who would do that?

Truth is that I don't really need that many people for decorations, because I don't have that many buildings left. Sorry.2012-06-02 01:55:00

Hmmmm... invite me over to your moon so I can help. Can't w8 to see the other mode! About the thermo problem... I suggest connecting the menu option to play(in this case it's sandbox) to a level link instead of another section in the level(if you didn't do that already since I didn't have enough time to try it) I also suggest using as few materials as you can and play with stickers. Al;so about the cars - they are something nice but you could use other dinamic stuff like simulating rain etc. But if you still have trouble with the thermo I suggest making the cars simple sqaures(or whatever shape you want) moving in only one direction, the disappearing. Chec k comphermc's videos about feedback loops. He also has other interesting stuff.2012-06-04 15:02:00

Actually i solve the menu thermo by destroyingit all once you press play XD, also I use little materials most of it is stickered sticker panel. Cars are alos little rectangles right now.2012-06-05 08:53:00

Really? OH MY GAWD THEN YOU MUST BE A PRETTY GOOD CREATOR(at least for hiding stuff)! Are the bulding made 100% decos or do they have a sticker panel base? Or are they made of actual materials?2012-06-05 09:08:00

Just cardboard and sticker panel XD. I reduced the detail of the floor to save some detail and added day and night also added weather.

Just saying version 1.2 is out minor update. Fixed spelling issues in the tutorial, added a light to say if your slightly off grid and a counter system, which once past 10 buildings weather wont happen, reason: it looks horrible when it starts lagging, lol. Can further bugs be posted so i can fix.2012-06-07 09:27:00

The tutorial features better spelling and grammar, but there's still some problems. "Recommend" is spelled "recomend" multiple times throughout the tutorial. Also, the use of first person in some areas is a little weird, since no one is actually talking to the player. Instead, instructions are given to the player via subtitles. Since your tutorial is a straight-up "Here's what to do" tutorial, I strongly suggest you change all instances of 1st to 3rd person. Also, better punctuation is needed. Some commas are missing where they're needed, and some commas are used in place of where periods should be.

The gameplay, however, is turning out great. I can't wait for realistic mode; as of right now it's incredibly fun making my own city.

Yeah the reasons with the typos is that i use a keyboard to type quickly and ill fix the punctuation. English is not my best (art, sport and maths is) lol.2012-06-07 21:41:00

So im just going to post some of the properties of buildings
Road
Cost to make = $100
Effects = +1 Happiness

Generator
Cost to make = $1250
-$50 every 20 seconds = +10 eletricity every 20 seconds
-> Meaning no cash no power

House
Cost to make = $500
+3 Happiness
+ $ Every 20 seconds depending on happiness
-1 Eletricity every 20 seconds = +1 Happiness
0 Eletricity = -1 Happiness

Apartment
Cost to make = $1250
+5 Happiness
+$ Every 25 seconds Depends on Happiness
-5 Electricity every 20 seconds = +2 Happiness
0 Electricity = -2 Happiness

Park
Cost to make = $250
+2 Happiness

Hospital
Cost to make = $1750
+5 Happiness
-$20 every 20 seconds
-10 Electricity every 20 seconds = +20 Happiness

Factory
Cost to make = $ Unknown
-5 Happiness
+$ Depending on Happiness every 20 seconds

- Some facts about the factors.
Happiness and money will be the main controlling factors about your city.
Electricity and food can greatly effect how happy your city is.
No power buildings become less efficient and making people happy, but having power will cost you money. So you have to keep your economy stable.
Food comes from farms, which cost money to build and produce food. Having lots of food doesn't increase your happiness, but having low amount of food will decrease it.
Food will go down depending on the population of the city, making farms very important.
If you want the food to get a positive effect build a shop, which at the cost of food will increase your happiness.
Ill update this list later, once i come back from my beach house but i'm bringing my PS3 up there so I can work on this.
Please post more ideas of what I could do to other properties.

I'm being overly critical stating this, but I feel it has to be stated:
1. The road offers more happiness per buck than the park.
2. Your post implies that buildings do not have to be connected by roads, which is crazy if that's the case.
3. 4 houses, which take up the same amount of space as an apartment, offer 12 happiness compared to 5, and use 1 less energy, all for just $750 more. If you do the math, the house uses less energy for your cash and offers more happiness per buck, making the apartment completely useless, except for how much money you plan to award players for having one. (EDIT: When typing this item I forgot to take into account happiness awarded and taken away based on energy supply. However, my statement regarding the uselessness of the apartment is still true.)

Ill rewrite it, once i get back home but i need more ideas for the building. Could you help me get this right BIG?
Appartment was supposed to be a big house, its cheaper for its size but not as good with happiness etc.
Also you have to remember you don't have unlimited space so parks offer more happiness per square (dont look at everything per buck, you need to think about space) this makes park more effective (the extra 50 bucks is to make it not pointless to make park, so more effective in the long run).
Thats a good idea with the road being connected to all buildings, excluding parks and farms? Lol I didnt think about it.
$750 is tons of cash, 4 houses say make $20 ever 20 sec, gives you eighty, maybe minus 50 for eletricty (also have to remember food) thats $30 every 20 seconds. Not even 1 minute gives you $100.
Im still working on it tons.

Have you tried a feedback-loop-based system for power? How about money? Or happiness? Feedback loops tend to be very flexible, displaying their values isn't overly difficult, and most people would appreciate it if score wasn't used for power or money.

Yeah, you have sa good piece of advice there @BIGGamerer. Try comphermc's tutorial on feedback loops! Also he has a Copyable Currency System Level you could draw inspiration from it and see the basics

Sorry to double post but I have a question. Isn't the Apartment supposed to be better than the house? I certainly be more happy with a house than with an apartment.Or the Apartment is actually an Apartment House? Then I suggest renaming it. Hope I helped

Happy Gadding!

I haven't been on lbp lately, tribes is so addicting.

Well the way i wanted appartment was you make it first, then once you get more money you replace withh a house but I can change it.
Just watched feedback loops. Very helpful, so im goin to tweak my system.

Just finished the skeleton of power (meaning ive done all except for a couple of things) which is the effects of other buildings. Easy! Then I need to redo happiness. Also I got to do money.
Next week is holidays so lots will be done then.

Sorry for the long wait. I had a big break from LBP, but now I'm playing it again. I gotta redo the realistic system since it was half done and I don't remember what each thing does :/ Well holidays have arrived so get building!

Just redone the electricity system and more efficient!

Edit 2: Finished the food logic system might work on happiness later on today, then money
Edit 3: Finished basic happiness system, which takes in account if there is power, food and building types .
