My Half-Life, Half-Life2 and Counter-Strike Levels

Archive: 10 posts

I've been designing levels for Half-Life for about 9 years, and just recently got into making levels for Half-Life2 and Counter-Strike: Source.

Here are a few shots of my work.

There are many more screenshots and downloads for the maps on my website which you can find here (http://docrocksmaps.homestead.com/).

I have also made a LBP level called Half-Life Tribute. Check it out!

The top one is from Counter-Strike: Source. Title is de_dust2_mariostyle.

The second one is from Half-Life:deathmatch source. Its title is dms_kitkat_essence. I also have a version of this map for Counter-Strike: Source.

The third is one I am building for several of the Half-Life mods. Its current title is kitkat_persia.

And the bottom one is for Counter-Strike: Source. The title is de_coliseum.

you definatly need work on both visual and gameplay department, I am not saying that to hurt your feelings.
I am saying this, because if you want to continue level designing and get the most out of it..
you should try as much tutorials as possible,
and my best advice is:

www.hourences.com (http://www.hourences.com)

he is THE best level designer alive,
(i worked with the guy)
and his book is really valueble!
It is focussed on unreal tournament, but he explains it in a way that is valueble

my portf. is at http://vladderbeest.com/folio2/DM-Sirea.htm
Practice, and have fun

keep it up, keep it up and enjoy what you do!

Thanks for the feedback. I appreciate your honesty.

I've made over 100 levels for Half-Life, and have quite a good fan following from people all over the world. I take any kind of review to heart, good or bad.

What you see here is only a small handful of the work I have done. I know it's easy to make a quick judgement from a single screenshot, but as I have experienced, it's very hard to judge a map by a simple screen.

Again, thanks for your honesty. I will check out your levels as well.

well.. to be honest..

you can judge a map from one single shot.
a good photo, does more than 1000 words.
if you cant make a good shot of your level..
it kinda says enough.

I do believe you know the ins and outs,
And the one thing I cant get from pictures is the dynamics and gameplay.

at least the visual part could use some..
okay I admit it.. I am a decoration freak

I am, I admit that.

If I had the time and money, id travel to docrock's house and give him a week long course and make him as good as I saw potential in that 3th picture from above.

though empty, it looks promising.
I just really think most people can do way better,
but dont have either the time or the focuss to become really good.
