Need Help With Cameras And Scale Please

Archive: 4 posts

Hey everyone. Thanks in advance for any help you can give me.
I spent several hours creating a huge, complex object, so I'm hoping I won't have to re-build it. The thing is, I created it huge (hundreds of feet tall) because it was easier to work on details. But now I can't seem to reduce the completed object's size. I only want it to be 30 feet tall, or so. I am selecting the entire object, but the right stick will only make the object larger, not smaller. Why is this? Is there any way around this?
Second part of my question relates to the camera. I had almost given up hope of reducing the size of the aforementioned object, and decided I'd just use a game camera to make sackboy look up at the huge thing. But I have been unable to succeed, even with this 'last resort' option. The thing is, it seems like the object is just too tall for the game camera to see all the way up. I've tried setting the camera up the bottom, middle, and top of the object. And I've adjusted the camera to look at the very top, and zoom out, zoom in etc., I've tried setting the zone small and large, even as tall as the object, and I've tried adjusting the 'player tracker' left and right., and it seems like it's going to work., but then when I play test it, you can only see halfway up the object. Is there just no way around this?
Please help!

First question: It is somertimes difficult to make a complicated object smaller. However, sometimes (and don't ask why),you can do it in the same time rotate a little your object. Try to rotate it in differents position and to resize it. I know my advice could sound crazy, but it is fuctionning, i promise!!! . But there is a limit in this.
Typically, i had this problem with my egyptian god statues.

For the camera, as far as i know, there is no way.
I had the same problem numerous times, and i now give to my customs objects a size that fit with the camera...

Sometimes if an object contains certain parts, like spikes or creature legs for example, those objects won't shrink while they attach. If you have any unusual tools attached to the object, I recommend removing them, then trying to shrink the two parts seperately, and then re-attaching. This usually works for me.

As for the camera angle, it normally only goes about 10 big grid high at maximum zoom, or the height of 10 sack boys. Considering the ceiling of the level is much, much higher than this, it's kind of a frustrating limit sometimes.

But as Takelow said, it's best to try and plan things taking into account the maximum camera zoom.

One thing to consider though is that magic mouths can force the camera to move, and they can be activated by a switch. Though there is a limit how far you can move them away from the player before they miss-fire, this might open up some opportunities for shuffling the camera about, as they can be fired by hidden player sensors.

Hope all this helps.

As Takelow suggested, rotate your object around and at the same time try to make it smaller. Works for me every time. Im not sure about the camera, but maybe if you use Pistons, you could "hoik" Sackboy up to the different parts of your object.2009-01-04 17:47:00
