I'm going to be getting a new phone soon.
I'm curious... If you could get any phone, what would you recommend and why?

Good ones guys.

@Jw- a cell phone.
Rick wants to get me the Samsung Galaxy Note. He says I can do a lot more with it. He likes all the stuff but I'm not sure.
He says I need to upgrade. (I really do...lol I still have my original Motorola Razor, talk about outdated. )

Samsung are good phones. I know a lot of people with Samsungs who kept telling me I should get one, so I did. I got the Galaxy Ace which I'm quite satisfied with and does everything I need it to do, including being able to use it as a wireless hotspot and go online with my PS3. Being able to use it as a satnav, mp3 player, and camera is pretty handy too. You may prefer one of the more recent models, the S2 or the Note, but which one would suit you best really depends on what you need it to do.2012-05-18 03:46:00

Wow, you still have a Razor? That's stuff ancient at this point.

If you're looking for a phone that can be multi-faceted (and I'm guessing that you're Verizon), I'd recommend a Droid smartphone. Since they aren't tied down by Apple or some other major electronics corporation, they tend to have more variety in terms of what apps are available and what kind of functions they can do. I tend to like Droids because they aren't as fragile as an iPhone or other smartphone, and their processors tend to be more powerful. This is if you're provider is Verizon, since I don't think Droid is available anywhere else.

If not, then one from the Samsung Galaxy would be a good choice. They offer more in terms of various models and can usually fit a budget.

It depends on what you do with your phone.
I don't use it to browse, take pics, etc...only for phone calls and I don't call much, so I'm pretty comfy with my Motorola DynaTAC 8000X

Really? You can just turn it into a wi-fi thingy and use that to connect your PS3 to the internet? Is the connection reliable?

See, I can't connect my PS3 to the internet in the place where I live because it's a private network (VPN). I've got months of patches, LBP levels and downloadable stuff to catch up with. Having a phone that can provide wi-fi would be very handy.

I like my iPhone. Never was an iFanboy to be honest. Had a Blackberry Storm that I "thought" was great at the time. Then after the iPhone 4s came out, I went over to play with one for a bit and I was hooked. I looked quite a bit at the Droids as well, but wow.. they are so freaking huge that at least for me, it wasn't pocket friendly.

I love the iPhone interface. Simple and quite intuitive. ..and Siri is quite a bit of fun and handy as well. lol

I realize I didn't quote him here, but I am with JWW on this one that the droids tend to get too big. The big screen is nice, but I don't want to carry around that giant phone.

But in reply to the post that I am quoting, there is more variety with a droid, but that isn't a good thing if you are interested in apps. Because of the wide variety of phone types on droid as well as a number of other factors, the best apps, especially games, tend to come to iPhone first. There are exceptions to this rule. And also, there are apps that aren't supported by some android phones but are supported by others (I ran into this issue when using my Father-In-Laws phone).

I know plenty of people who have switched from iPhone to Android and then paid a penalty to switch back. I am not saying that Android is bad, but just don't let Apple haters make you discount the iPhone :-)

Yeah, there's a portable hotspot feature that I can use to connect my PS3 and laptop to the internet without needing to plug a broadband box into the phone line. I can take my laptop anywhere I go, and as long as I have a signal on my phone then I have internet access. My contract means I have unlimited data usage too.

I have an xperia S and its amazing. Its 1.5Ghz dual core and its fast. I know the HTC X One is faster but the Xperia S is much cheaper. Its 1280x900 resolution and has the best amount of pixels per inch in the screen. 12.1MP camera with HDMI out.

I got mine for ?268 brand new factory unlocked off ebay but I think I was lucky

Well, what do you plan on using it for?

As much as I can without going overboard.

Mainly functional things but I do need it to be able to entertain my daughter at times.

I want to get the new Samsung Galaxy S III as a graduation present when it comes out...right now I'm rocking a Blackberry Bold back when it came out, with no data plan (so no interwebs on it...) 2012-05-19 03:03:00

You called wrong.

Sorry, but I blame my town for my pure hatred of the iPhone. I like its interface and its smooth response, but it's so overrated to Hell here that I'm disgusted by it whenever they brag and talk about the new version coming out. I like my town, don't get me wrong: we're a small community, so we all know each other pretty well. But their taste in technology, music, and other things are so annoying; I have to deal with people blasting their flavor of the month songs all the time on their iPhones.

TONIIIIIII-AAAAAAA-IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIGHT. WE ARE YOUUUNG. SO I SET THE WORLD ON FIIIII-YYYAAAAAAAA!

Got myself and Samsung Galaxy Nexus earlier this year. Best thing ever, got a very wide screen and looks great. Very thin and weights nothing compared to the iPhone (I know I shouldn't compare it to the iPhone, but iPhone is the most popular phone at the moment). I think the Nexus is something you should look into, I've had zero problems with it so far.2012-05-20 02:34:00
