I'm Hanging Up My Creator Hat, and Here's Why (NOT a Goodbye Thread)

Archive: 14 posts

Well, with seven months of my life dedicated to an LBP First Person Shooter, I've decided to throw in the towel. That doesn't mean I'm leaving LBPC, or LittleBigPlanet as a whole; it just means I'm leaving LittleBigPlanet 2.

WHAT?!? WHY?!? - I hear my nonexistent fans cry. Those voices in my head are scary, man.

The reason why I'm hanging up the old Creator hat is because I'm literally running against the wind with this, and anything else I want to create. There's no market for 3D FPSes in LBP2 anymore, especially not after Massive Epic Raging Destruction. The 3D Cam has gotten destroyed and rebuilt so many times it's ridiculous. And of course, there's no real smooth rotation; even if you rotate the stage you won't be able to move and rotate at the same time. Or, you could do the 4-way rotation glitch...but even that has it's problems. I could spend multiple posts talking about the problems, but why bother? The main point is, I'm quitting LBP2. See ya at LittleBigPlanet Vita.

Little big planet was made as a platformer at heart.
MM had no intention of FPS when they made it. The main thing about the 3D camra is that it is a glitch. Glitches can cause other small bugs, and dont always work how creaters wanted them.
An example is the merge glitch, or 3D glitch. People that dont know how to use it would run into alot of bugs that come with it, the major one being parts of the level breaking. Again, although MM likes what the community can do with glitches like these like Steves 3Dschooter, and countless levels that uses the 3d glitch, the company doesnt support these. Its just the way it is. The second thing, unless if im missing something very important, LBPvita will be alot like LBP. Its basicly the same tools and logic, just modifyed to fit the platform.

I can see where your coming from, though. Some things like the 3D camra is something thats very hard to work with. Im decent with logic, and along with alot of people, no matter how hard I try, I just cant wrap my head around how they can do it. It can get realy confusing.
Hopefuly, ill see you on LBPVita too!

That's a shame. It not fun when whatever vision you're trying to get across doesn't work out.

Still, best of luck in LBP Vita.

Wow, you're leaving a great game just because you couldn't make a CoD remake? This game isn't for FPS's. Its for platformers.2012-05-15 04:07:00

LBP2 is not designed for first person shooters. If it's not working no matter what, it's because it's clearly not possible. Steven Big Guns never even got the shooter up and running for players. And I doubt he ever will either. I don't like those glitchy 3D levels. If I wanted terribly detailed 3D games, i'd play a freakin N64 emulator.

I wanna see some beautiful puzzles, racers, an platforming levels.

Lol so true. I'd been in a major mood with LBP since Move was launched (..and broke my Paintings). Didn't think I'd be back in a million years, yet just under a year later here I am. Paintings fixed too! o/

But that's the thing about bugs, they do get fixed eventually. So if you're going to mess with glitches, you need to understand that you're doing so at your own risk, as they'll likely get patched at some point.

LOL!! Good one! ...yeah seems you can't stay away forever even though you can take off quite a long time.

Speaking of which, very glad you are back! Saw you have been working on something too! (pssst... I would be honored to test when you get that far!! )

...and very true about glitches. In fact when the layer glitch first came out I wasn't concerned with it for quite awhile figuring it would be fixed as well. As cool as it was, I just didn't want to risk losing bits of a level here or there.

I hate CoD. I can make whatever the hell I want to make, it's my game, right? Mm advertised that you could make things other than platformers. Therefore, I am.

Besides, my game wasn't a CoD remake, although to the kiddies that seems to be what shooters always were. No, my shooter was based on the FPSes of old, which meant circlestrafing, huge weapons, and badass one liners.

As for me leaving LBP2, I'm not leaving because I couldn't make a "CoD remake". I'm leaving because I can make a decent FPS in LBP2 in a month, but give me a month with C++ and I'd create something amazing.

I've had lots of fun with LBP2, but now I'm leaving. Coming back home.

Hellooooo, Nintendo.

Very true. I can understand why you're leaving, although I still think you should have played for more than simply making an FPS. Yes, you can create whatever you wanted, but they didn't say it was possible to create whatever you wanted. Like a 3D game such as Mario64. It's impossible to do something like that without absolute frustration, or even at all. I'm just saying there's so much more to LBP2. Not stopping you though, it's your game, it's your choice.

A lot of the pre-launch interviews did suggest that FPSers would be possible. I have to admit I was majorly disappointed with the limitations of the cameras at launch.2012-05-15 18:25:00
