How old are you and how popular are you as a creator?

Archive: 51 posts

I'm curious about the age of LBP players and if it affects your popularity. I'm guessing around 10 - 13 but then there are those college kids that are like 20.

My thought was always that the older you are the more publicity you get as a creator because it seems like most of the famous creators are usually in college or high school.

I'm 305 years old, am hip with the in crowd, and fairly popular (just hung out with a bunch of celebritities, lol). You may know me for my highly played levels, A Trip to France, Constitutional Convection (3D Movie), and Shark Survival (British Naval Ship Mode). I'm currently working on Kite Flight; I'm nearly done, but this stupid noob who is supposed to help me with Co-Op Create is too afraid to get hit by a little lightning.2012-05-12 01:42:00

lol... There are creators of actually all ages. I know quite a few over 40 and even over 50. There are also many in their 30's and quite a few in their 20's. Quite a few of the really popular creators that are really good, well thought of, constantly have LBPC Spotlights as well as those that have Mm picks are 15 and up to 50+.

At least the ones I know of.

I'm 22 and also not well known. I consider myself to be a decent midrange creator when I actually get anything done. And even then, that's in lbp1.

The correlation between age and LBP fame is probably from older players being able to understand the mechanics of the game better. Think of how technical this game can get. Sometimes just the difference in knowledge between a nine and twenty year old can be the difference between who makes the better level. Not to say a nine year old would never make good stuff.

I'm 17 (going 18 in August), and, outside of LBPC, I ain't that well known. I've helped my friends with various parts of their levels, but for the most part I don't really do much and really focus my attention on here.

I don't know where this is goin', but I reckon it ain't purty.

NOOOOO... I'm the youngest one in this thread!!! Anyway, I'm thirteen. My levels aren't that well known, but they are nearly always rated up. But because of update 1.12... well, you know. Before the update though, I had 8 boos in total for all my levels. So... yeah.2012-05-13 03:05:00

I'm 14 and I'm just being discovered in LBP . I recently got Spotlighted by LBPC and now I'm working on a new level that will be better than the spotlightted one >. I'm not the most popular, but I have quite a good amount of friends on LBP. They are all around my age and they are all great creators. I usually help them with Logic, something I am very good at. Outside of LBP, I'm not popular, but I'm not a loser. I have 10-20 friends I talk to every day, and another 10-15 I don't see very often.

Hmm.. I just realised that the "Popular" kids only have like 10 friends.. They stay in their little group of friends and walk around thinking they have all this "Swag" while 9/10 of the school looks at them and rolls their eyes...... Sounds popular to me >.> XD

I think I'm fairly well known as a member on the forums, but I'm pretty obscure as a creator. Mention my name and people will probably think "oh yeah, that weirdo from lbpcentral", but ask 'em what levels I've made and they'll surely draw a blank.

17 years old.

Since I got a majority of those hearts when I made crappy LBP1 levels, I'd say I deserve much less. I'm not really popular as a creator anymore but as long as I enjoy making levels so it's worth it.

Because, obviously, being invited to the tarsier game jam doesn't count for anything... Nor does being mm picked in lbp1.

36.

I used to be fairly well known I guess, mostly thanks to Sony pinching one of my levels for a DLC advert. Not published a thing in ages though, so likely just a distant memory by now.

20, semipopular

About 300-800 yays average on every one of my levels. Not sure what qualifies as popular. I never got an Mm Pick if that's what you mean.

I'm 36, and my only claim to fame is an honorable mention in Spotlight 84 for my Pac Man level (yes, another shameless promo). It had over 350 plays, until I published V2.0, and someone recommended that I update the original instead of having a second version published. The republish only has 8 plays =(2012-05-19 03:16:00

You're right, that counts for nothing. Just because someone at Mm liked one of my levels and someone at Tarsier liked me enough to invite me to the game jam, that doesn't mean I'm a popular creator. Quite simply, I'm not. In fact I'm pretty sure I'm the only person to have an Mm pick in LBP1 that is currently rated at 3 stars, which would indicate that the community generally consider me to be a mediocre creator. I'll admit that maybe my levels have a certain cult appeal, but so does Norwegian doom metal which couldn't really be classified as "popular" by any stretch of the imagination.

You make a very valid and self-depreciating argument.
Popularity is a fickle thing though, and I guess it isn't representative of a creator's quality, which I guess was what I was talking about, after a lapse of judgement re: thread title.

I'm 12, used to not be popular, but just got a surge of popularity as both rtoodee2 and bruce_the_jam hearted me and my "A Bill to Pay" level got 104 plays in less than 5 days! (Yes, I've got excellent grammar and
spelling for my age. )

20 and I guess I'm an averagely known creator? I can't really say that I am besides my spotlighted level, I'm more known on lbpc I would figure. But being unknown isn't a bad thing, I don't have to deal with invite spam really 2012-05-19 17:06:00

37....38 in a week.

As for popularity, I think it's more about what you put out in the community that earns reputation and if you have the skills to make fun, engaging or beautiful levels. I know lots of old and young creators that make amazing stuff and even more players that are great to hang out with. Fun and talent know no age limit I think.
