The Ancient Gallery (platformer)
Archive: 12 posts
The Ancient Gallery is an atmospheric platforming level with artistic visual design, some simple puzzles and fun gameplay bits. The level's story is plain and simple: retrieve the mythical artifact known as the Golden Apple from the Mayan era temple - or 'The Ancient Gallery', as the Mayans used to call it. The level is pretty cinematic so expect a lot of cool camera angles, dialogue and stuff like that. This level can be played with up to four sackperson but from my experience, bad internet connections may cause lag making the level really hard because timing is needed. Locally, it should work like a charm even with four players but if you're having connection / lag problems, we recommend playing alone (even though the level includes a simple (yet an optional) co-operative 2-player puzzle part, so two players is needed for at least that extra part). Try it out with buddies or just by yourself, just what suits you. The level was created co-operatively by Rhazzzy and me, Execta, and it's published under Rhazzzy's PSN ID. You can comment here but please leave feedback to the game itself as well as the level is screaming for more reviews. Thanks. Hope you enjoy it as much as we did enjoy (exclude all the swearing for logic problems) building it. http://lbp.me/v/b7y9fd | 2012-05-10 16:40:00 Author: Unknown User |

Just played it, there's some fun and simple platforming and it looks pretty nice. You should really try to tell us a bit more of the story in the level though | 2012-05-10 20:44:00 Author: Deurklink1 Posts: 346 |
Q'ed this up pal. | 2012-05-10 21:11:00 Author: JetArtois Posts: 232 |
Updated version 1.3 is up! One door was shut in the middle of the level so you couldn't finish it. If you tried the level before version 1.3, please, try it again as it's now polished and pretty much bug-free. You can also give reviews and comments to this thread. | 2012-05-11 14:33:00 Author: Unknown User |
This is really laid out and all the platforming sections play well, but it all seemed a little too... spaced out I think. It was sort of a slow walk with some point bubbles and then a nice platforming section followed by a slow walk. I think that a few more bits of verticality would break it up, like having to climb up a section rather than just walking up stairs. The walking makes everything feel static and sort of staged. The final treasure room was a great example of how to break up this feeling as your jump out the wall it makes it feel more lively. | 2012-05-16 02:39:00 Author: Mr_Fusion Posts: 1799 |

Positives: -Nice puzzles you had there -Platforming was okay -Scenary looked okay also Negatives: -Little spaced out kinda -might need more platforming and little less walking Comments: -Global tweaker was shown at the end of the level before you grab the apple -Overall the level was still fun to play I enjoyed it good job.. | 2012-05-16 03:20:00 Author: Sabre_ Posts: 653 |
Thanks for the feedback, we really appreciate it! As for the walking sections, we had the thermo at its max when the level was published. We actually had to remove a lot of stuff just to replace normal Checkpoints with Infinite-life Checkpoints... We really couldn't have added any more platforming sections etc. If we would have made more platforming, for like those stair climbing parts, we had to cut something else off. Oh, and we'll hide that Global Lighting Tweaker right away. Do you have any more feedback to give us? Feel free to give more reviews at least. I'd like to know how you liked the part where you are in the "crushing chamber", did you know what to do to get out, was there enough time to escape, etc.? It's hard to figure out is there enough time because as the level designer, we know what to do when you fall into that chamber but how about random players who have no idea? | 2012-05-16 14:22:00 Author: Unknown User |
Hi there. Finally tryed your level and must admit I quite enjoyed it. The setting was nice with some great design. Like some said though it did seem a bit spaced out with just walking in it, but thats nothing really. Nothing was frustrating in the level which was nice. When I first played the level I didnt drop into the pit with the crushing walls I just stayed above it, maybe some wall was blocking my way. I played the level again and managed to fall in the pit. Getting out was fine, figured out what to do with just the right amount of time to escape, intense stuff. Some nice platforming in the level and I really think it deserves more plays, nice job. If you fancy giving my platformer a try that would be great, no worries if not as there is so many to play, Alpine Abandon its called, link below, cheers. http://lbp.me/v/-tn5qv | 2012-05-19 20:35:00 Author: JetArtois Posts: 232 |
...When I first played the level I didnt drop into the pit with the crushing walls I just stayed above it, maybe some wall was blocking my way. I played the level again and managed to fall in the pit... Yeah, we are aware of this issue but on our "beta test" we had this happen to us like about once out of 10 tries maybe. We really couldn't make it better because of the thermo. Sorry, you have to live with that bug. I hope it doesn't happen that often. Thanks for the feedback. Glad you liked the level. | 2012-05-21 13:59:00 Author: Unknown User |
