Episode 18 - We Like Soapy Tree Droppings

For this episode of Pocket Moon Podcast we have the incredible music artist, WeirdyBeardy, as our special guest. Since things haven't already been crazy enough, we decided that we will try to have a second guest on every podcast, and for this episode we see the return of the Master of the Internets, UltraRazpacho, who was kind enough to take break from Sonic CD to record the podcast.

In this episode you will hear us chat about music, Ageism in LBP, a $99 Xbox or PS3, yelling vs. swearing, terrible level ideas for LBP Vita, pizza toppings, and of course, soapy tree droppings. And speaking of soapy tree droppings, check out the title of this post! We have begun adding taglines to our podcasts!

at last! thanks

EDIT:
double post doh!

great to hear from WeirdyBeardy who sounded EXACTLY how i thought he would! i'm really surprised that he/you (depending on who's reading this) plays the trombone and the harmonica. WeirdyBeardy should be a permanent fixture for future podcasts. he made reference several times to his waffling but his self deprecation was unfounded IMO. i was interested in EVERY contribution he made.

overall, i'd have to say that this is without doubt the best podcast so far. the content was well presented and the waffle wasn't overpowering (as it is sometimes in MMs podcast. sorry MM). however, you did miss a trick. baring in mind that you had a musician on the podcast this week, you could have easily played part of a WeirdyBeardy track just prior to the interview.

eyebrow waggling is probably the most overlooked form of communication... when coupled with shouting

PEPSI MAX!!!

great job, young'n, old,n and Weird'n!

...and thanks for the mention i know you only used my online name but it brought a tear to my eye (i swear)

Thanks for the feedback GribbleGrunger :-) I liked your waffle comment so I already tweeted it

It's good to hear that you liked the episode. It had a bit more of a technical feel since we were asking more in-depth questions to our guest than usual, but it seems that people didn't mind :-) WeidyBeardy was very entertaining and managed to make every answer/comment fun to listen to.

EDIT: YIKES! I forgot to thank Domik for the post :-D I had just chatted with you via PM so I forgot to say something here too

I am a bit behind on feedback for #17 and I was intending to do so until I started listening to #18 wherein Tom mentions that you’d rather keep the feedback current rather than necro’ing old posts with feedback.

So consider my feedback for the last podcast to be ‘feedback by omission’. The silence of that feedback was profound and the actual feedback, I assure you, was even more so. I hope that it helps.

And on to #18, I was apprehensive going into this one because I knew that you are moving to a two guest format in addition to the two of you. I can imagine a few less-than-ideal situations where you have two outgoing/chatty guests and neither of them get much airtime or a game of inverted dodgeball with the speaker’s conch. Or on the other end where a recurring guest’s personality or volume level eclipses the new guest and then the greater-than-normal amounts of emotional scarring occurs as a result of being on PMP.

For #18 I think the guest dynamic worked out really well, Raz was great on the news and early sections and WeirdyBeardy had his own time to shine after that. I’m curious to see how this type of lineup works down the road. The Q&A did get a bit muddy with bcoli jumping in as you now had a sea of voices and diminishing returns on investment. (Better to have bcoli on as a recurring guest than a too brief cameo.)

WeirdyBeardy was a great guest for his interesting perspective and approach to playing with LBP. I do not have any musical inclinations or skill and I like to hear how creative people manage things.

Am I the only person who answers your closing questions from a purely selfish point of view?

Let’s see, 1. Run naked through a shopping mall or 2. Not brush your teeth for a year? Come on, can you imagine the tooth decay and pain you’d have in your rotted out teeth if you didn’t brush them for a year. Hands down I’d be in that mall in a heartbeat.

1. Yell as loud as you can when talking or 2. Swear at least once in every sentence? Another easy question, I’m going to be mute after a day of screaming with torn and burning vocal cords. Obviously the correct answer is to swear all the time. Also swearing can be an art form and every language has its own set of choice words so you have a huge palette to choose from. I’d find all sorts of foreign curses to use so that I’d always have some on hand to use against people who had no clue as to what language I was using.

I’ll keep this relatively short then. It seems that the focus is turning more and more to the guest/host dynamic more than the forum soup/news/LBP stuff and that isn’t necessarily bad. It used to be the podcast about two guys who talk about games and LBP. Now it is the podcast about two guys who interview guest and talk about games and LBP. So far you still have your signature banter and style so I’ll wait and see if this evolves.

As a parting question, where do the two of you want to go with PMP? Where do you see PMP in a year’s time?

Okay. No more self-deprecation. Got it. If I ever get invited back, my flat northern vowels will surge forth without trepidation!

Chuffed to bits that you liked what I had to say. Believe me, I could've blah'ed all day.

Absolutely not. I like meat on my pizza and I don't care what died to bring it to me.

I just listened to it last night. I really like the idea of having four people on.

@amazingflyingpo, I'll catch up on achievements soon. I stopped paying attention a while ago since I was so far ahead.

EDIT: Done.

As I said yesterday, I finally got caught up and was able to listen to 17 and 18 in one sitting. Imagine that? Great guests on both shows. It was interesting to hear weirdybeardy's and Tyler's comments on various subjects and I always enjoy the banter and the tangents you guys sometimes go off on. The quality of the shows have definitely improved. The audio is great and I dig the transitions. I know it was for funny ha ha reasons, but I didn't care for the silly sound effects used. Oooh, just had a though. You should do a theme show where you talk like 70's disc jockeys the whole time. Nah, that'd be stupid. I don't really have anything to add but just to say that it was entertaining, informative and I really enjoyed it, so thank you.

Question(s)
http://www.sacfla.org/question2-724662.jpg

1. what were some of the best video game endings that you've seen? Worst?
Sometimes a game has an epic ending and you just sit there going "Wow" and then other times a game has a sucky ending and you sit there going, "wow, wtf?" "f" = frenchtoast. The game itself could have been good, but then the ending just went sour.

for me, some of my favorite endings have been, and in no particular order:
Super Metroid
Metal Gear Solid.
Super Mario Galaxy
Bioshock
GTA: IV
Ratchet and Clank Up your Arsenal and Going Commando
Quest for Glory 1
Grim Fandango get this friggin' game already!
Day of the Tentacle

The Worst
Super Mario Bros (the original) Are you serious? I battle through all these different worlds trying to save the dang princess and I finally beat Bowser and what does she say. "Thanks Mario, your quest is over! We give you a new quest. Push the button" WHAT!? You #*@>&!

Metal Gear Solid 2 I don't even know. You had to be on some serious opiates to understand this one.

XIII One of the best games I have ever played. This Cell shaded FPS had everything, great story, gameplay, visuals but then it ended sucky. You finally find out who tried to kill you and... THE END. What! Oh C'mon!

Of Light and Darknesss Ok, I know I'm going back in the day on this one. This was a Point n Click adventure game going back to the late 90's. It was good. good story, voice acting by famous actors, excellent graphics (for the time) and you get to the end and go, "Hunh?" Let me explain what happened real quick. The plot was something kind of like the 5th Element. Every thousand years the Earth had to atone or face an apocalypse. I forgot what the main character had to do to save the day. Finding a bunch of ghosts or something. Anyway, the ending was a shot of a space probe landing on the moons of Jupiter. There's a camera set up on the surface and all of a sudden a court jester sticks his head in front of the camera. The end. WTF!

YIKES! My apologies for falling so far behind on replying to feedback. Tom said he would be out of town so he wouldn't be able to and then I ended up being AFK because of a birthday and then mother's day.

@Trindall: Thanks as always for the feedback! If the two guest policy ends up not working out well then please let us know. We will be fine getting rid of it. We figured we would try since we had plenty of new guests to have on but also a few who wanted to repeat. I agree that 5 was a bit much, but it was certainly not because b-coli isn't a great guest. It is just that 5 is too much :-)

I really enjoyed your logic behind your solutions for for the questions.

Your parting question is something that Tom and I need to discuss in all honesty. I don't know if we really need a long term goal for something like this, but it wouldn't be bad to figure out.

@Cory: It's good to hear that you enjoyed having 4 people on! Not so good that you have completely destroyed me in achievements again

@biorogue: Thanks for checking out episode 17 and 18! It's good to hear that you enjoyed the guests because they were both REALLY good. YIKES! I don't think it would be a good idea for Tom and I do ask like 70's disc jockeys. We had a hard enough time acting on the Creator Spotlight videos for less than 1 minute of dialog. I can't imagine how bad we would do for an entire podcast

I love the question you asked, and I can't wait to answer it! Hopefully we will have time to discuss your answers as well since you had some good ones!

Sorry for the late feedback. I thought I already commented on this ep. You guys defiantly kept a great pace and flowed through all contect well. Hearing Weirdybeardy's thoughts on music creation was awesome(since I don't abuse the word its fine for me to use =P)

Keep up the great work. I'm looking forward to the next ep.

I don't normally swear, but being Australian, when I do it's always rather creative and funnily offensive to Americans, even whenits language most Aussies wouldn't even bat an eyelid at.
