the pics look the same to me. I don't really see how one looks worse.

the differences are subtle but they are there. Look at the "fuzz" around the lights in the first pic. Also, the whole image is a little more crisper and lighter. And that level is freaking cool, it's from our very own aselrahc and the level is The Land of Crumb (http://lbp.me/v/qm-wh8)2012-05-28 19:35:00

What you're going to need to do to make it better looking is to look at the areas in red...

...and change them to what is highlighted blue, changing
fl to ft enlarges the image and changing jpg to pngenhances the quality of it too.

and it doesn't have to be a publish level. You can take a picture of your pod and post it to LBP.me, you can take pictures of things on your moon and post it. where are you getting your info?


The resolution of those pictures is not as crisp as they would have been if taken from your PS3 directly trust me. The actual picture file taken in game is down converted into a smaller format to be used on the LBP.me website. You'll get a higher res picture with great anti-alaising if taken straight from the source file. Even uploading it to photobucket like i suggested reduces it's overall quality to an IMG file like you mentioned.


Also when I said you can't upload, i meant you can't upload to level and take it to LBP.me unless the levels published. Like for example when you play someones level and try to upload your own photo from outside of that persons level, it doesn't upload to that levels page, it uploads to your own profile.

That image was a much bigger but when you upload to LBPC it shrinks it down super small. See, here is a wallpaper that is 1024x768. uploaded directly from my PC

I will probably be making my bird-eye view RPG once I finish. This is a very good way to have a sack learn how to create well with water.

In the event that a winner has a crown, this shiny goody is generally awarded to second place. The pin however will still go to the winner and therefore nobody should be discouraged from entering.

The only thing you can do is attempt to build a better level and win the crown yourself, everybody will be given an equal chance no matter what their current lbp history is.		2012-05-29 17:27:00

There's not much else for other people to talk about. I just finished my classes last week so I've been trying to aquire some info on this contest. And David and Biorgue have been answering very nicely.

Mmmmmm, a creative and nice contest we have here! Water-based levels are usually boring because they are sloooow, so this is definitely a great idea, especially if the creators know how to use the water-physical properties, along with the use of propellers or whatever they use to make the player go really fast. Eh I entered the contest for the sake of the contest and I don't find that odd. Yu-Kamone is probably doing the same. It's just a fun contest

I would highly advise NOT using bright lights. Lol water is super laggy when you mix lots of bright lights into the picture. And if this level needs to be 2minutes long, you can not afford ANY expensive thermo effects unfortunetly 		2012-05-30 08:00:00

depends on how you build the level bud. once i'm done creating the main stuff. i can easily make my level 5 or more minutes long. and i have bright lights everywhere too. 		2012-05-30 09:25:00

Rules were changed. It has to be no less than 2minutes. He did this for the reason I stated above (water has a significant impact on the thermo making it harder to extend the length than those fast paced normal platformers)

Lol i thought of this. Tried it. But it kills gameplay. It freezes the level for a second and kills the flow. I might still use it. The second half of my level is seperate from the first half for this reason. I'm hoping I can hit two minutes without having to do this trick.

Edit: After reviewing that thread you provided, I'm going to give this another shot. I'll try emitting more small sections. He addressed this issue so I'm hoping it'll work. I just hope the emitter doesn't screw up. I'm using small grid and sometimes LittleBigPlanet can act all silly 		2012-05-31 05:46:00

Tried that emit/destroy trick. Failed. Some sections would emit with random magical boxes that cut into the object. Some pieces would be flipped upside down or emit ontop of other objects. Very glitchy. Not worth the time and effort. Glad I made a backup XD2012-06-01 01:23:00

it works fine if you know what you are doing. i know the problem you are talking about. and i know how to avoid it. you most likely were emitting some objects like the tube or paper roll objects. there's a small list of objects that don't emit well. the emit/destroy trick is something that takes a long time to master. so if you or anyone is not used to it. you may have a hard time. *mew		2012-06-01 08:20:00

Well anyway. Still doesn't change the fact that it's not worth my time and effort. The thermo is there for a reason, to keep players from making a level lag too much. And a fast paced level is the last place I want to induce lag. So thanks for the tip but I'll avoid this emitter method, even if there are "Correct" ways of doing it.

Ps: Yes I was emitting a section that had a tube in it, that would explain why this problem was occuring.		2012-06-02 02:24:00

I'd just like to add that this is generally the same with the rare "lbpc contest winner" pin too. If we have multiple prizes up for grabs we will clearly state this in the rules, but in this case (LBPC8 Aquatic Acceleration) it's just the one. For future reference, usually this information is presented in the "how to enter" section of the original post.


After the deadline, the judges will grab their flippers and select the best levels based on the scoring criteria below. The creator of the best level will be pinned/crowned a winner!		2012-06-02 21:32:00

@Moose They give a list of things that your level will be judged on. Just go by that. Basically if your level is fun, looks pretty, plays smoothly, and sounds good, you've got yourself a contender


@gary SWEET! I've been looking forward to playing that level! Gonna try it out now And is Yu-Kamones level unlocked? I thought it was still locked

Once again, we are not going to stop anyone from entering the contest... their prior lbp history has no effect on their likelyhood to win. If a winner already has the prize we will deal with it when (and if) the time comes. In this case you are all basing your arguments on a winners pin, I'd like to point out that said user won that pin by being a runner up in lbpc6. (the awarding of these extra runner-up pins is a one time only deal and will not be repeated for every contest). By extension, they are still allowed to enter in hopes of gaining a crown too.

Anyway, these situations are all hypothetical anyway... I can only repeat my earlier advice, if you want to influence where the prizes go, you need to build a winning level so you can obtain them yourself. Best to concentrate on your own work rather than others.

Multiply crowns will only be given if we advertise the contest as a co-create contest (see lbpc6). In this case it is not, so only the person who publishes the level will receive the prize. Each entry may only be published once, multiple attempts may lead to disqualification.		2012-06-04 20:23:00

I suspect that the huge teams Frenzie saw were those for LBPC6 which required teams of 4 creators to enter. That was very much a one off (it was our big Christmas contest, actually). Most of the winning entries for the other contests have been the work of a single creator.

I suspect that the huge teams Frenzie saw were those for LBPC6 which required teams of 4 creators to enter. That was very much a one off (it was our big Christmas contest, actually). Most of the winning entries for the other contests have been the work of a single creator.

I just wanted to bring this to everyones attention. I have seen a couple levels posted for this contest and people who also are in the contest have been harshly reviewing them and bashing these creators for even trying. Keep your mouths shut and don't say anything at all if you have nothing productive to say. These players have created a level that they are most likely very proud of and they could use some CONSTRUCTIVE criticism.

I'm tired of seeing the same people heartlessly insulting creators of LBPC8 levels in hopes that their reviews will influence judging so that their own levels will get the win.

Sorry people... but hopefully the judges won't base their judgements on your intolerable reviews!

I want to reiterate what Nick said. Let's have a good clean competition people. Have good sportsman like conduct please. I've seen this going on with the LBN tribute contest as well. It's really sad. And just know this, that we judges don't look at the reviews/comments going into a level. We sit down, load the level, play it and base our decision on what's going on INSIDE the level, not outside in the review/comments section. nope... you cannot, part of the thing we will be looking for is smooth gameplay, so it is up to you to eliminate lag using alternative methods within the singular level. People have already posted some lag reduction techniques in this thread, I suggest you look at those.		2012-06-09 19:14:00

Aaaw, really sorry to hear that fume! Like Nick said, though, I do hope you continue with the level and post it anyway when it's done. It would be a shame for all your work on it so far to go to waste.
